Why Putin’s War on Ukraine Is Great News for Drug Traffickers

Conflict and instability tend to benefit the illicit drugs trade. Look at Afghanistan, where opium cultivation reached unprecedented levels during the U.S.-led war, or Myanmar, which has apparently been producing more and more methamphetamine since a coup plunged the country into chaos last year. Manufacturing of the amphetamine captagon has boomed on the back of Syria’s civil war and ensuing devastation, with millions of tablets regularly seized in the region.

 

Ukraine may turn out to be another example. The United Nations recently warned that the production and trafficking of narcotics could increase in the country following Russia’s invasion. True, Ukraine has so far not been a major source of narcotics, but it has potential as a synthetic drugs producer. Before the war, there was an increase in the tally of amphetamine labs dismantled in Ukraine, with the country registering the highest number of labs dismantled in the world in 2020.

 

Seizure data suggest that drug trafficking through Ukraine had also been expanding prior to the invasion. One of the routes for smuggling Afghan heroin to Europe transits through the country. Traffickers could now take advantage of the chaos to increase narcotic flows. They will also likely have an ample supply of opiates from Afghanistan. While the Taliban has vowed to ban drugs, the country’s dire economic situation makes it hard to stamp out the opium trade, which provides hundreds of thousands of Afghans with a livelihood.

 

And while the Taliban prohibited drug production and trafficking in April, the decree “appears largely unenforced” so far, according to the European Union’s (EU) drug agency. Afghanistan has also started manufacturing large amounts of methamphetamine using the local ephedra plant, and the EU is concerned that cheap Afghan meth could eventually make its way to Europe along established heroin-trafficking routes, of which Ukraine is one.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump’s tariffs are unlikely to raise inflation, in part because China will “eat any tariffs that go on.” Bessent said Mexico has offered to match the U.S.′ tariffs on China, and urged Canada to follow Mexico’s lead.

A Washington-based firm has decided to build 30 microreactors in Haskell County, Texas. Last Energy has obtained control of a 200-acre site to provide power to off-takers via a mix of private wire and grid transmission.

 

The facility is expected to serve American data center customers across the state. “Texas is the energy capital of America, and we are working to be No. 1 in advanced nuclear power,” said Governor Abbott.

 

“Last Energy’s microreactor project in Haskell County will help fulfill the state’s growing data center demand. Texas must become a national leader in advanced nuclear energy. By working together with industry leaders like Last Energy, we will usher in a nuclear power renaissance in the United States.”

Crucial role in adding capacity to grid

 

Last Energy revealed that the Northwest Texas project will play a crucial role in adding capacity to the grid and meeting data center deployment projections. Texas is currently home to over 340 data centers which consume nearly eight gigawatts of power and make up nine percent of all Texas electricity demand.

 

In the Dallas-Fort Worth region alone, data centers are expected to drive an additional 43 gigawatts of demand. Last Energy’s PWR-20 is designed for mass-manufacturability to scale output to user demand. PWR-20, which produces 20 MWe, is fully modular and designed for flexible siting, plug-and-play installation, and rapid scalability.

Nuclear power effective way to meet Texas’ demand

 

Bret Kugelmass, Founder and CEO of Last Energy, stated that Texas is America’s undisputed energy leader, but skyrocketing population growth and data center development are forcing policymakers, customers, and energy providers to embrace new technologies.

President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered the suspension of the delivery of weapons to Kiev

 

US President Donald Trump has instructed the Defense Department to pause all military aid to Ukraine following his public spat with Vladimir Zelensky, news agencies reported on Monday, citing American officials.

 

According to Bloomberg, the freeze affects the equipment already designated for delivery, including weapons in transit on aircraft and ships or waiting in transit areas in Poland.

 

The suspension will stay in place until Trump sees that the Ukrainian leaders “demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace,” Bloomberg said, citing a senior Pentagon official.

 

According to the New York Times, the order takes effect immediately and affects more than $1 billion in “arms and ammunition in the pipeline and on order.”

 

“The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” a White House official told Reuters.

 

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Monday that Washington has stopped funding new weapons sales to Ukraine and was considering freezing weapons shipments.

Trump has repeatedly accused Zelensky of undermining his effort to broker a peace deal between Kiev and Moscow. Their public feud culminated in an unprecedented shouting match during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday, after which Trump said that Zelensky was disrespectful to the US.

 

Zelensky has insisted that a ceasefire must be tied to security guarantees provided by the US and other Western countries. Trump, however, has refused to commit to specific guarantees and has ruled out making Ukraine a NATO member or contributing American troops to a potential peacekeeping mission.

 

On Sunday, Zelensky told reporters that “an agreement to end the war is still very, very far away, and no one has started all these steps yet.” Trump condemned his statement on social media, promising that “America will not put up with it for much longer.”

 

“This guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

 

Zelensky told reporters last month that Ukraine had a “low chance” of survival without American aid.

US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz has warned Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky not to test the limits of America’s patience, financial support, and military resources, arguing that now is the time to shift towards negotiations rather than prolonging the conflict with Russia.

Ukrainian parliament commends Trump’s peace efforts

The US president will play a “decisive” role in achieving a ceasefire with Russia, the Verkhovna Rada said

Ukraine’s 450-seat parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, released a statement on Monday evening saying that US President Donald Trump will play a key role in negotiating a peace deal between Kiev and Moscow.

 

The public endorsement of Trump’s mediation efforts comes after Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky refused to apologize for last week’s public spat with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance in the White House.

 

In a statement on the parliamentary website, theMPs stressed the “decisive” role of American aidand said that the Rada “welcomes President Donald Trump’s initiatives to launch a negotiation process aimed at securing peace.” (The AID is what initiated this statement)

 

“On behalf of the Ukrainian people, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraineexpresses its profound gratitude to President Donald Trump, the United States Congress, and the American peoplefor their firm and consistent support of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the statement read.

 

“At present, this support is more crucial than ever for the Ukrainian people and the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine,” the legislators wrote. They added that they believethat Trump’s mediation efforts “will be decisive in the swift cessation of hostilities and the achievement of peace for Ukraine, Europe, and the entire world.”

 

The Rada also stressed “the necessity of further developing the strategic partnership with the United States, particularly in the exploration of critical minerals.”

 

The feud between Trump and Zelensky escalated last month after officials in Kiev and Brussels criticized Trump for opening direct talks with Moscow without their advice and approval. Trump branded Zelensky “a dictator,” while his team blasted the Ukrainian leader for declining to sign a deal on the development of his country’s critical mineral deposits.

 

The meeting in the White House on Friday descended into a rare public shouting match, with Vice President J.D. Vance accusing Zelensky of being ungrateful for the military and financial aid America has provided since 2022. Trump later claimed that his guest in the Oval Office was being disrespectful and did not want peace in Ukraine.

 

In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Friday, Zelensky refused to apologize to Trump directly. He reiterated that Ukraine was seeking security guarantees from the US and needed to be in a “strong position” in a potential ceasefire deal.

 

In a post on X, Zelensky thanked Trump, the US Congress, and the American people. “Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,” he wrote.

 

Trump has so far ruled out providing specific security guarantees, such as admitting Ukraine into NATO or contributing American troops to a future peacekeeping mission. He also argued that Zelensky did “not have the cards” to complain about being sidelined during the US-Russia talks that took place last month in Riyadh.

US journalist urges Trump to drop sanctions against RT

 

The curbs on Russian media levied under former President Joe Biden are unconstitutional, Ben Swann has argued

 

American investigative journalist Ben Swann has called upon US president Donald Trump to lift the “unprecedented” sanctions on Russian media organizations RT and Sputnik which were introduced under his predecessor Joe Biden.

 

Before the Biden administration introduced its sanctions on Russian media, Swann used to head all of RT’s operations in the US, being in charge of the broadcaster’s office in the country and all of the shows produced by RT America.

 

Last September, the outgoing US administration announced a new raft of curbs targeting several Russian outlets, blaming them for trying to covertly “undermine democracy” and interfere in US elections. Then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken accused RT of “functioning as a de facto arm of [Russian] intelligence.”

 

Following Washington’s move, US tech giant Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, banned several Russian news networks.

 

Moscow has condemned the restrictions, saying that Washington had “declared war on freedom of speech.” As for claims of election meddling, they are amere “witch-hunt” and “spy-o-mania”intended to manipulate public opinionand bar Americans from any inconvenient information, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakrahova insisted at the time.

 

In his open letter to Trump published on X on Monday, Swann, who founded the Truth in Media project, insisted that curbs against RT and other media organizations are unconstitutional as theyare “making it illegal for American journalists to exercise their… rights of freedom of speech and press,” he argued.

Trump again spoke about claims of Russian meddling in the 2016 US election on Friday, calling them a “phony witch hunt” launched by the Democrats. Russian President Vladimir Putin “was accused of all that stuff he had nothing to do with,” he said.

 

The new administration “has moved at warp speed” to restore the principles of free speech and a free press in the US, but it is “a major oversight” that curbs on Russian media remain in place in the country.

 

“We ask you to drop all sanctions against RT, Sputnik and TV Novosti and allowthe public square to remain free for all voices, all journalists and all points of view,” Swann said.

The US’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) maintains 12 secret bases in Ukraine along the border with Russia, and last Thursday CIA chief William Burns made his 10th secret visit to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

Details: The NYT reports that before the full-scale war, the Ukrainians proved themselves to the Americans by collecting intercepted data that helped prove Russian involvement in the downing of the Malaysia Airlines jetliner in 2014. Ukrainians also helped Americans prosecute the Russian agents who interfered in the 2016 US presidential election.

 

Around 2016, the CIA began training an elite Ukrainian special forces unit known as Unit 2245, which captured Russian drones and communications equipment so that CIA technicians could reverse-engineer them and crack Moscow's encryption systems. According to the NYT, one of the officers in this unit was the current head of Defence Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov.

 

The CIA also helped train a new generation of Ukrainian spies who worked in Russia, throughout Europe, and in Cuba and other places where Russians have a significant presence.

 

According to The New York Times, the details of the partnership between the Ukrainian and American intelligence agencies have been a closely guarded secret for a decade.

The US had orchestrated the heated argument at the end of last week’s disastrous talks between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at the White House, Germany’s chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz has said.

 

During a tense meeting on Friday, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance berated Zelensky in front of reporters in the Oval Office. The argument erupted after his Ukrainian guest questioned Vance’s suggestion that direct negotiations with Russia would help to achieve a lasting peace.

 

Trump has since accused Zelensky of acting disrespectfully, while many EU politicians quickly backed the Ukrainian.

 

“In my opinion, it was not a spontaneous reaction to interventions by Zelensky, but obviously a manufactured escalation in this meeting in the Oval Office,” Merz said at a press conference in Berlin on Monday, according to Euronews.

 

The leader of the Christian Democrats added that he was “quite surprised by the tone of the conversation” in the White House. “It was not helpful to the cause,” he added.

 

Merz said that Germany must “do much more for our own security in the coming years and decades.”

 

“We must now show that we are in a position to act independently in Europe,” Merz said. He added thatBerlin must “do everything we can to keep the Americans in Europe.”

 

Trump has been pressuring America’s NATO allies in Europe to increase their military budgets and to carry the main burden of aiding Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. After winning a parliamentary election last month, Merz stressed that the EU can no longer rely on the US for its defense and said that Germany must become more “independent” from Washington.

 

Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, has insisted the claims about “some kind of ambush” were “absolutely false.” State Secretary Marco Rubio blamed Zelensky for the heated exchange, saying that “he found every opportunity to try to ‘Ukraine-splain’ on every issue.”

 

Speaking to Fox News on Monday, Vance said that Trump had tried to stay “diplomatic” when “Zelensky was kind of needling him.”

 

“There is a lack of respect. There was a certain sense of entitlement,” Vance said. “I really don’t care what President Zelensky says about me or anybody else. But he showed a clear unwillingness to engage in a peace process,” he added.

 

Vance confirmed that, following the public spat in the Oval Office, Trump had decided to cut Zelensky’s trip short and demanded that the Ukrainians leave the White House. “He can come back when he is ready for Peace,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform shortly after the meeting.

 

The blowup on Friday was the culmination of the Trump-Zelensky feud that stems from wider disagreements over how to end the Ukraine conflict. Trump has made it his priority to end the bloodshed by reaching a ceasefire as soon as possible. Zelensky, however, has refused to make any concessions to Russia and argued that a ceasefire was impossible without security guarantees from the US.

 

Trump has declined to provide specific guarantees and has ruled out admitting Ukraine into NATO or contributing troops to a potential peacekeeping mission.

A sit-in demonstration was organized Wednesday at Barnard's Office of the Deans to protest the expulsion of two Barnard students last week over allegations of “disrupting” a Columbia University class on Israeli history a month earlier, according to the protest group Columbia University Apartheid Divest. Barnard College is an independent women’s college affiliated with Columbia in which students can take courses at both schools.

 

During the protest, a small group of masked demonstrators “forcibly entered Milbank Hall” and “physically assaulted a Barnard employee, sending them to the hospital,” Robin Levine, Barnard’s vice president for strategic communications, said in a statement Wednesday evening.

 

New York police said they responded to the vicinity of West 120 Street and Broadway around 4 p.m. Wednesday and found a 41-year-old man who said he was “shoved by numerous individuals and complained of pain about the body.” He was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was stable. Police said no one was arrested.

 

“They encouraged others to enter campus without identification, showing blatant disregard for the safety of our community,” Levine said. “Violence and intimidation have no place here.”

 

The group Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine had posted on X: “We do not need outside support for the sit-in.” Instead, anyone who wanted to support was asked to head to a rally in Bay Ridge.

 

Levine said protesters had until 9:30 p.m. to leave the building or else the college would "be forced to consider additional, necessary measures to protect our campus.”

 

Barnard President Laura Rosenbury said in a statement later Wednesday night that the protesters had vacated Milbank Hall.

 

“Tonight, a small group of masked protesters attempted to undermine Barnard’s core values of respect, inclusion, and academic excellence," Rosenbury said. “Thanks to the efforts of our staff and faculty, the protesters have now left Milbank Hall without further incident. But let us be clear: their disregard for the safety of our community remains completely unacceptable.”

Also, he adds,American juries are too stupid to decide whether an injury was caused by a vaccine or a car accident.

 

If the product is not safe and effective, it would never get approval from the FDA or from the other health authorities… They are very strict when they are approving products, particularly for vaccines… However, in a system that litigations can flourish, anyone can create, demand that the accident in the car happened because of the vaccine, and uh, with a jury, it’s going to be flip of the coin. After last week's botched Epstein files release, many are calling for Attorney General Pam Bondi to be fired over the lame binders given to right-wing influencers and journalists that contained old information.

 

On Monday, Bondi appeared on Fox News, where she told host Sean Hannity that she received a truckload of files on Friday morning containing additional Epstein files which were hidden away in the Southern District of New York.

 

"FBI handed over a couple hundred pages of documents, but you know Sean, I gave them a deadline of Friday at 8am to get us everything, and a source had told me where the documents were being kept - southern district of new york (shock), so we got - hopefully all of them, Friday at 8am. Thousands of documents," said Bondi.

 

"I have the FBI going through them … Now that we have Kash here it's a game changer of course, and Director Patel is going to get us a detailed report as to why the FBI withheld all of those documents."

 

Sean Hannity: "I want to be clear, because I think people are frustrated. You were expecting more, and you didn't find out - less than 24 hours before the release, you got a whistleblower that confirmed that there were way more documents that they were supposed to turn over, and then you found out just before that."

 

Pam Bondi: "Well sure, you're looking at these documents going 'these aren't all the Epstein files!' - and we're going 'where's the rest of the stuff?' and that's what the FBI had turned over to us. And so a source said, whoa - all this evidence is sitting in the Southern District of New York. So based on that I gave them the deadline - Friday at 8. A truckload of evidence arrived. It's now in the possession of the FBI. Kash is going to get me - and himself a detailed report as to why all these documents and evidence had been withheld. And, you know, we're going to go through it - go through it as fast as we can, but go through it very cautiously to protect all the victims of Epstein, because there are a lot of victims."

 

"Now, is that the only thing that would be redacted," Hannity replied, referring to the names of the victims.

 

Pam Bondi: "Yeah, the FBI hasn't had, obviously, they haven't looked at the thousands of pages of documents that they just received Friday. Kash has a team going through them - and it's always about protecting the victim … We believe in transparency, and America has the right to know."

 

The Biden administration sat on these documents. No one did anything with them, and why are they sitting in the Southern District of New York? I want a full report on that. Sadly these people don't believe in transparency, but I think more than that - I think they don't believe in honesty," she continued.

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX) struck a significant victory for free speech whenhis investigation led the software giant to disavow support for NewsGuard’s “biased indoctrination tool.”

I am happy to see that theleadership at Microsoft has renounced their support of NewGuard’s so-called Media Literacy toolin response to my letter. Cruz had sent a letter last December requesting information about Microsoft’s financial support for NewsGuard’s “Media Literacy” program and work to censor conservative viewpoints.

 

In response to Cruz’s letter, Microsoft said that it only donated once to the censorship tool and asked NewsGuard to remove the claim, “NewsGuard’s Media Literacy Programs are made possible thanks to generous support from Microsoft.” NewsGuard has since removed mention of the company from its website.

 

Although Cruz had made progress in making Microsoft distance itself from NewsGuard,Mike Benz,a former State Department official and founder of the Foundation for Freedom Online,on Sunday noted that they still recommend NewsGuard.

 

Benz asked rhetorically, “One month ago, Microsoft promised @SenTedCruz it would disavowNewsGuard, the for-profit censorshipsoftware firm thatsinglehandedly decimated or bankrupted 100s of conservative news sites. Yet since the disavowal, Microsoft is still recommending NewsGuard. Why?”

I know one of those….

My fren Verena from Buenos Aires…we met on an internship. Stunningly beautiful German/Argentine babe.

Went to go visit her in in BA, right on the living room end table was a pic of her grandfather in full SS Regalia.
