The Mendacious Media Coverage of Zelensky’s Stunt:

 

They have used deceptively edited videos to support dishonest reports about what actually happened.

 

If you want to understand why last Friday’s Oval Office press conference between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky went off the rails, ignore most of what you are seeing in the corporate media. Anyone watching a video of the entire event, instead of the deceptively edited clips featured on most “news” sites, will see that neither the President nor the Vice President “ambushed” Zelensky. The first 39 minutes of the meeting were unremarkable, with President Trump attempting to be cordial despite the Ukrainian president’s Marvel Comics costume and pugnacious comportment.

Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen Resigns After Investigation Into Personal Conduct

 

The Cincinnati-based company said Monday its board was made aware of certain personal conduct by McMullen, who also served as chairman, on Feb. 21 and immediately retained outside independent counsel to conduct an investigation, which was overseen by a special board committee.

 

McMullen’s conduct wasn’t related to Kroger’s financial performance, operations or reporting, and didn’t involve any Kroger associates, said the company. Efforts to reach McMullen weren’t immediately successful.

Zelensky Temper Tantrum on Tape.

 

Truly historic moment Friday when President Trump and Vice President Vance publicly confronted the petulant and bad-mannered tinpot tyrant Volodymyr Zelensky. Despite selective clips shared by the media and Endless War Neocons attempting to demonstrate that Trump and Vance “bullied” the ill-dressed Ukranian president during a press availability on Friday afternoon, the full video proves just the opposite.

 

Zelensky—a former dancer and entertainer—put on a performance for the national and international media but his victim act backfired in a big way. My guess is Vance, seated to the left of both presidents with a full view of Zelensky’s smirks and winces and eye rolls, had had enough of the disrespect, prompting him to level Zelensky toward the end of the event.

 

Rather than back off, Zelensky dug in his once dancing high heels in the Oval Office resulting in getting tossed out of the White House, lunch and rare minerals deal signing cancelled.

FURTHER AMENDMENT TO DUTIES ADDRESSING THE SYNTHETIC OPIOID SUPPLY CHAIN IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

 

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) (IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.), section 604 of the Trade Act of 1974, as amended (19 U.S.C. 2483), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, I hereby determine and order:

 

Section 1. Background. With Executive Order 14195 of February 1, 2025 (Imposing Duties to Address the Synthetic Opioid Supply Chain in the People's Republic of China), I determined that the failure of the Government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to act to blunt the sustained influx of synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, flowing from the PRC to the United States constituted an unusual and extraordinary threat, which has its source in substantial part outside the United States, to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. To address that threat, I invoked my authority under section 1702(a)(1)(B) of IEEPA to impose ad valorem tariffs on articles that are products of the PRC, as defined by the Federal Register notice described in section 2(d) of Executive Order 14195, as amended by Executive Order 14200 of February 5, 2025 (Amendment to Duties Addressing the Synthetic Opioid Supply Chain in the People's Republic of China).

 

Pursuant to section 3 of Executive Order 14195, I have determined that the PRC has not taken adequate steps to alleviate the illicit drug crisis through cooperative enforcement actions, and that the crisis described in Executive Order 14195 has not abated.

 

Sec. 2. Amendment. In recognition of the fact that the PRC has not taken adequate steps to alleviate the illicit drug crisis, section 2(a) of Executive Order 14195 is hereby amended by striking the words "10 percent" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "20 percent".

 

Sec. 3. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

 

(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department, agency, or the head thereof; or

 

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

 

(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

 

(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

The Opium Wars (simplified Chinese: 鸦片战争; traditional Chinese: 鴉片戰爭; pinyin: Yāpiàn zhànzhēng) were two conflicts waged between China and Western powers during the mid-19th century.

 

The First Opium War was fought from 1839 to 1842 between China and Britain. It was triggered by the Chinese government's campaign to enforce its prohibition of opium, which included destroying opium stocks owned by British merchants and the British East India Company. The British government responded by sending a naval expedition to force the Chinese government to pay reparations and allow the opium trade.[1] The Second Opium War was waged by Britain and France against China from 1856 to 1860, and consequently resulted in China being forced to legalise opium.[2]

 

In each war, the superior military advantages enjoyed by European forces led to several easy victories over the Chinese military, with the consequence that China was compelled to sign the unequal treaties to grant favourable tariffs, trade concessions, reparations and territory to Western powers. The two conflicts, along with the various treaties imposed during the century of humiliation, weakened the Chinese government's authority and forced China to open specified treaty ports (including Shanghai) to Western merchants.[3][4] In addition, China ceded sovereignty over Hong Kong to the British Empire, which maintained control over the region until 1997.

First Opium War

Main article: First Opium War

The First Opium War broke out in 1839 between China and Britain and was fought over trading rights (including the right of free trade) and Britain's diplomatic status among Chinese officials. In the eighteenth century, China enjoyed a trade surplus with Europe, trading porcelain, silk, and tea in exchange for silver. By the late 18th century, the British East India Company (EIC) expanded the cultivation of opium in the Bengal Presidency, selling it to private merchants who transported it to China and covertly sold it on to Chinese smugglers.[5] By 1797, the EIC was selling 4,000 chests of opium (each weighing 77 kg) to private merchants per annum.[6]

 

In earlier centuries, opium was utilised as a medicine with anesthetic qualities, but new Chinese practices of smoking opium recreationally increased demand tremendously and often led to smokers developing addictions. Successive Chinese emperors issued edicts making opium illegal in 1729, 1799, 1814, and 1831, but imports grew as smugglers and colluding officials in China sought profit.[7] Some American merchants entered the trade by smuggling opium from Turkey into China, including Warren Delano Jr. and Francis Blackwell Forbes; in American historiography this is sometimes referred to as the Old China Trade.[8] By 1833, the Chinese opium trade soared to 30,000 chests.[6] British and American merchants sent opium to warehouses in the free-trade port of Canton, and sold it to Chinese smugglers.[7][9]

UN Food Program Closes Southern Africa Office After Trump Aid Cuts

The United Nations’ World Food Program is closing its southern Africa office in the wake of the Trump administration’s aid cuts, a spokesperson said Monday.

 

Tomson Phiri said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press that the U.N. food agency had launched a multiyear plan to streamline its structure in 2023 but as “the donor funding outlook becomes more constrained, we have been compelled to accelerate these efforts.”

 

Phiri said the WFP would consolidate its southern and East Africa operations into one regional office in Nairobi, Kenya. The southern Africa office in Johannesburg will close.

 

Phiri said food programs would continue.

 

“Our commitment to serving vulnerable communities is as strong as ever, and WFP remains committed to ensuring our operations are as effective and efficient as possible in meeting the needs of those facing hunger,” he wrote.

 

The WFP didn’t say how much funding it had lost from USAID, but it received $4.4 billion in assistance from the United States last year, around half its total annual budget and more than four times the amount given by the second biggest donor, Germany.

 

The Trump administration announced last week it was terminating 90% of USAID’s foreign aid contracts because they didn't advance America's national interests, stopping $60 billion in spending on humanitarian projects across the world.

 

The move comes after southern Africa was hit by its worst drought in decades last year, destroying crops and putting 27 million people in danger of hunger, according to the WFP. The WFP made a call for $147 million in donations to help some of those in need even before President Donald Trump started cutting U.S. foreign aid.

 

The WFP provides food assistance to more than 150 million people in 120 countries worldwide, it says. It won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020 and its last six leaders since 1992 have all been Americans, including current executive director Cindy McCain, the widow of former U.S. Sen. John McCain.

 

Few U.N. agencies have been specific about the impact of the U.S. aid cuts.

 

The U.N.’s International Organization for Migration reportedly has cut 3,000 jobs linked to resettlement in the United States, and family planning agency UNFPA has estimated that a number of its operations will be affected.

 

Many U.N. aid agencies have said they are still assessing the impact and remain unclear about whether some programs or projects will benefit from waivers that could allow U.S. donations to continue to flow.

The Ukrainian army has lost the majority of the M1 Abrams tanks supplied to it by the US, the New York Times reported on Monday. Unnamed Kiev officials told the newspaper that 19 out of 31 Abrams tanks delivered to the front line have been captured, destroyed, or severely damaged. The tanks were billed as a potential “game changer” in the conflict with Russia.

 

Russian drone and artillery strikes have proven highly effective against the US-made armor, NYT reported.Nearly all of the remaining tanks have been withdrawn from the front lines, the newspaper added, citing Ukrainian officials.

 

Washington delivered the first Abrams tanks to Kiev in September 2023. Shortly after their deployment, the Russian Defense Ministry began releasing videos of Abrams tanks burning on the battlefield, with at least one tank captured and put on display in August at the Army-2024 expo held in Patriot Park just outside Moscow.

 

After former US president Joe Biden approved deliveries to Kiev in January 2023, multiple US media outlets described them as a “game changer” ahead of a much-touted counteroffensive against Russian forces. In September the same yearUkraine’s top military spy, Kirill Budanov, noted that the tanks “will not live very long on the battlefield” and should only be used in “very specific, well-crafted operations.” In December 2024, former US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan admitted the Abrams was “not useful” for Ukraine.

 

Even before Biden authorized their delivery to Ukraine, US military officials warned that the Abrams tanks would prove unsuitable for Kiev’s needs.

 

According to Military Watch Magazine estimates from September 2024, “close” to 20 of the 31 tanks were reported to be destroyed. The article pointed out that Ukrainian crews have complained to Western media over the US tanks’ performance, including technical issues, such as the vulnerability of electronic components to condensation. Another supposed gripe has been the “sheer size” of Abrams tanks, which has allegedly made them an easy target for Russian forces.

 

Throughout last summer, the Russian Defense Ministry published multiple videos, purportedly showing the destruction of US-made tanks. In at least some of these cases, Krasnopol-guided artillery shells were deployed, according to military officials.

In an article on Monday, the magazine recounted how the politician came to power on a populist platform back in 2019, dishing out simplistic solutions to the many problems facing Ukraine, including the conflict in Donbass. The outlet quoted a former staff member as saying thatZelensky “didn’t just speak like a populist, that’s how he actually thought,” with an unnamed senior official in Kiev adding that “still today, he has the worldview of a schoolchild.”

 

According to the publication,after Zelensky receivedtumultuous applause in the US Congress in December 2022, “his confidence grew”to such an extent that he felt he could berate his Western backers for what he saw as a lack of enthusiasm. Der Spiegel cited his confrontational message ahead of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania in July 2023, when he found out that the member states would not be extending an invitation to his country.

 

“It’s unprecedented and absurd when [a] time frame is not set neither for the invitation nor for Ukraine’s membership,” Zelensky charged in a post on X at the time.

 

His outburst did not sit well with Washington, with former US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan saying that“I think the American people do deserve a degree of gratitude” from the leadership in Kiev.

 

“The outburst was consistent with his demeanor: emotional, maximalist, often reproachful in tone,” Der Spiegel claimed. It further quoted an unnamed “person who used to work closely with” Zelensky as confirming that the Ukrainian leader “is like a child.”

 

The source explained thatZelensky “thinks: If you only wish for something hard enough and really believe in it, you’ll get it.”

 

The media outlet suggested that Zelensky’s “aim is to prove himself as a protagonist with his actions, without considering the consequences.”

 

However, “for Zelenskyy and Ukraine, there is no role left to play,” with Western support apparently eroding and Russian forces advancing in Donbass.

President Donald Trump may soon attempt to absorb the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), an independent agency, into his administration by issuing an executive order that reportedly would dissolve the service’s leadership.

 

The order could allow the Trump administration to make mail voting — which was used by tens of millions of voters last year — more difficult.Trump has repeatedly said he’d like to end the practice, falsely claiming it allows for widespread fraud.

 

“Taking over the Postal Service just kind of opens up a whole Pandora’s box of mischief,” said Barbara Smith Warner, the executive director of National Vote at Home Institute, a nonprofit which works to increase voters’ access to and confidence in mail voting.

 

“This is a way that the federal government could put a really big thumb on the scaleand impact every state’s ability to run their own elections,” she added.

 

The move will likely be swiftly challenged as a violation of the Constitution and the Postal Reorganization Act, an almost 55-year-old law that states: “The exercise of the power of the Postal Service shall be directed by a Board of Governors composed of 11 members.”

Zelensky re-offers to quit in exchange for NATO green light

The Ukrainian leader has insisted that ousting him would be a formidable challenge

 

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has reiterated his offer to NATO to resign in exchange for the opportunity to join the US-led military bloc. Speaking to Sky News on Sunday,the Ukrainian leader insisted however, that removing him from power would prove difficult.

His comments came after US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said that Zelensky’s personal ambitions appear to be detrimental to Washington’s goal of ending the Ukraine conflict. Waltz voiced his concern following Zelensky’s disastrous visit to the White House last Friday, which ended abruptly after a public disagreement with President Donald Trump.

 

US House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator Lindsey Graham — the latter a staunch supporter of Ukraine —have also suggested Zelensky should resign.

 

Zelensky decamped to London following the White House debacle, where, following a meeting with European heads of state, he emphasized that he would only relinquish power if he believed he had accomplished his historic mission.

 

”To change me, it will not be easy because it is not enough to simply hold elections. You would need to prevent me from participating. And it will be a bit more difficult,” he remarked to the British news outlet after meeting foreign leaders in London.

 

I have said that I am exchanging [claim to power] for NATO membership, then it means I have fulfilled my mission.

 

The Ukrainian leader labeled calls by foreign officials for his resignation as “unconstructive and undemocratic.” He referred to Graham as a “very good guy,” adding that the senator’s opinion about who should lead Ukraine would hold weight only if he became a citizen, which Zelensky offered to arrange.

 

Although Zelensky’s presidential term expired last year, he has refused to cede power to the parliament speaker as mandated by the Ukrainian constitution, citing martial law. Trump previously described him as a “dictator without election,” claiming that contrary to Kiev’s assertions, Zelensky’s approval rating remains in single digits.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested thatin a hypothetical presidential election, Zelensky would lose to retired General Valery Zaluzhny,adding that the current situation benefits Moscow.

 

“Our interest lies in keeping him in power, allowing him to further corrupt the regime we are in conflict with,” Putin stated in an interview before the confrontation at the White House. He added thatUkraine would benefit from taking “vigorous action in the opposite direction.”

The Wall Street Journal has cited unnamed sources as saying President Trumpis also considering freezing arms shipments from US stockpiles

 

The US has suspended funding for any new arms sales to Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal has reported, citing unnamed sources.

 

In an article on Monday, the publication said that Washington “has stopped financing new weapons sales to Ukraine and is considering freezing weapons shipments from US stockpiles.”

 

Soon after assuming office in January, Trump suspended all foreign aid, including military aid, except to Israel and Egypt, pending a review.

 

Meanwhile, Axios claimed that Trump would conduct a meeting Monday afternoon on the Ukraine conflict, “including a possible suspension of US military aid.” According to the media outlet, Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and several other senior officials are expected to take part.

 

The Washington Post, citing an anonymous senior US official, carried a similar report on Monday, saying that Trump would hold a meeting later in the day to “discuss whether to end military assistance to Ukraine.”

 

The newspaper claimed that aside from stopping arms and equipment deliveries to Kiev,the termination of intelligence sharing and training for Ukrainian troops and pilots is also under consideration.

 

On Sunday, Ukrainian leader Vladimir ==Zelensky predicted that a peace agreement between his country and Russia “is still very, very far away=.”He also expressed confidence that despite his acrimonious exchange with Trump and Vance at the White House on Friday, “Ukraine has a strong enough partnership with the United States of America” to keep the aid flowing. Commenting on the Ukrainian leader’s remarks on his Truth Social platform, President Trump described them as the “worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy.” He further warned that “America will not put up with it for much longer,” adding that Zelensky “doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing.”

 

Speaking to Fox News after the weekend, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz hinted that the “American people’s patience is not unlimited, their wallets are not unlimited, and our stockpiles and munitions are not unlimited.”

 

The official described Zelensky as the “problem”due to his refusal to “talk peace.”

 

“Time is not on his side. Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict,” Waltz stated.

Trump administration weighs lifting sanctions on Russia – Reuters

The possible plans are reportedly part of the president’s efforts to improve ties with Moscow and end the Ukraine conflict

 

The White House has directed the State and Treasury departments to draft proposals for easing certain sanctions on Russia, Reuters reported on Monday, citing sources familiar with the matter. The tentative plans would align with US President Donald Trump’s efforts to improve diplomatic and economic relations with Moscow and to facilitate an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

 

The proposedsanctions relief could include specific Russian entities and individuals, including some business leaders, according to the outlet. The list will be discussed with Russian representativesin the coming daysas part of the administration’s broad talks with Moscow on repairing ties, the sources told Reuters.

 

However, it remains unclear what concessions or actions Washington might seek in exchange. The White House, State Department, Treasury Department, and the Russian embassy in Washington have not commented so far.

 

The reported decision follows a series of diplomatic engagements between the US and Russia. On February 12, Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call, beginning discussions aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict. Subsequently, high-level meetings have taken place in Saudi Arabia and Türkiye between US and Russian officials.

 

At the Saudi meeting, the US delegation, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, explored avenues for economic cooperation, including potential joint ventures in the energy and technology sectors. The talks also addressed the possibility of restoring embassy staffing levels to improve diplomatic communications.

 

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who lead the Russian delegation, described the meeting in Riyadh as a first step toward rebuilding relations,stressing that Moscow and Washington need to “clean up the legacy” left by the Biden administration. Lavrov said that a swift appointment of ambassadors in Washington and Moscow would be an important step toward restoring full-scale cooperation.

 

Trump has maintained throughout that sanctions relief would not precede a formal peace agreement. He has said that any easing of restrictions would be contingent upon concrete steps toward ending the conflict in Ukraine.

 

Putin has welcomed efforts with the US on the diplomatic frontand expressed Moscow’s willingness to resolve the Ukraine conflict through peaceful means. He stressedRussia’s goal of establishing an international system that fairly considers the interests of all parties, ensuring a lasting and indivisible security framework for Europe and the world. Such a system would prevent some nations from securing their safety at the expense of others, including Russia.

Churchill’s grandnephew lashes out at Zelensky comparisons

James Spencer-Churchill has condemned the misuse of his great-uncle’s legacy to endorse the Ukraine conflict

 

James Spencer-Churchill, a relative of Winston Churchill,has challenged the comparison of his great-uncle to Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. The UK has reaffirmed its position as one of Kiev’s main backers after a falling out between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.

 

Spencer-Churchill was responding to a tweet by Michael Ashcroft, former deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, in which the latter drew a parallel between the two figures.

 

“As a wartime leader I’m sure our great Winston Churchill would be proud of @Zelenskyy,”Ashcroft posted on his X platform on Saturday.

 

Spencer-Churchill contested the comparison, suggesting Ashcroft wasmisusing his famous relative’s name to justify the conflict in Ukraine.

 

“I don’t think so @LordAshcroft. Winston was my great uncle and I knew him well; he would be appalled at the constant hijacking of the Churchill name to justify such insanity and the needless loss of life,” he responded on X.

 

The UK has taken center stage as a key supporter of Ukraine following the rift between Zelensky and the Trump administration. Zelensky’s trip to the White House on Friday was abruptly cut short after the meeting devolved into a shouting match in front of the media. Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of “gambling with World War III” due to his reluctance to negotiate peace with Russia.

 

After the debacle, Zelensky flew directly to London to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who assured the Ukrainian of the UK’s continued support in the conflict. On Sunday, Starmer announced that the UK and France were ready to lead a coalition to provide military support to Ukraine, including the deployment of troops and aircraft, stressing the necessity of the EU and others to stepping up as well.

 

US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, who also drew the comparison between Zelensky and Winston Churchill in 2022,has recently likened the Ukrainian leader to an “ex-girlfriend that wants to argue everything that you said nine years ago, rather than moving the relationship forward.”

 

Trump recently described Zelensky as a “dictator without elections” and accused him of having only single-digit approval ratings. Zelensky cancelled elections last year, citing martial law.

 

Zelensky also invoked the words of Britain’s wartime leader in his appeal to the UK Parliament for aid in 2022.

 

“We will not surrender, we will not lose, we will go to the end,” he told British MPs.

Feds Bust Massive Human Trafficking Operation

Federal agents have arrested two Guatemalan men accused of operating one of the biggest human smuggling operations in the United States.

 

The two men were arrested in Los Angeles and have been accused of trafficking 20,000 illegal immigrants into the U.S. since 2019.

 

Eduardo Domingo Renoj-Matul and Cristobal Mejia-Chaj were arrested on Friday and are being held without bond.

 

U.S. Attorney Joseph McNally stated, “The indictment and arrests here have dismantled one of the country’s largest and most dangerous smuggling organizations.”
