Air Force Recruitment Soars To 15-Year High, Officials Say

 

U.S. Air Force recruitment has surged to its highest level in 15 years, top military officials say.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin announced on March 3 that recruiting numbers over the past three months—December through February—were the strongest in a decade and a half.

 

Calling the numbers “amazing,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that the increase reflects a broader resurgence of interest in military service, fueled by a renewed emphasis on combat readiness and discipline.

 

“Americans are excited to serve their Country again! The next generation of the American warfighter will be joining the greatest fighting force the world has ever known!” Hegseth wrote in a post on X.

 

Allvin did not disclose exact figures but stated that all recruiting metrics “look great,” even as the Air Force increased its recruitment goal by 20 percent for fiscal year 2025.

 

An Air Force public affairs staffer contacted by phone declined to provide more details.

 

Allvin confirmed that approximately 13,000 recruits are currently in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP)—a system allowing enlistees to postpone their ship date to boot camp while completing school, handling personal matters, or preparing for military training.

 

The surge in enlistments follows a disappointing fiscal year 2023, when the Air Force missed its recruiting goal for the first time since 1999. In response, the service adjusted certain enlistment standards, including relaxed policies on tattoos and body fat composition.

 

By the end of fiscal year 2024, the Air Force recruited 27,139 active-duty enlisted personnel and saw a major increase in DEP enrollment—from 8,000 in 2023 to 11,000 in 2024. For 2025, the Air Force is aiming to bring in 33,100 active-duty personnel.

 

The Air Force’s recruitment surge comes on the heels of similar progress in the U.S. Army, which also reported its strongest enlistment numbers in 15 years.

 

President Donald Trump has suggested that renewed enthusiasm for military service reflects a broader national shift.

 

“We’ve done lots of interviews and asked why this is happening now, and they just said there’s a spirit about our country that they haven’t seen in many, many years. And I happen to agree with that,” Trump told a crowd at the White House on Feb. 5.

 

He also credited his administration’s efforts to eliminate “woke lunacy” from the military, pointing to a Jan. 27 executive order that revoked gender identity policies in favor of prioritizing “readiness and effectiveness.”

The Swamp Resist!

 

A workers’ board is reinstating – at least temporarily – almost 6,000 fired probationary workers from the Department of Agriculture, according to a newly issued order obtained by CNN.

 

The order, by the Merit Systems Protection Board, undercuts President Donald Trump’s attempts to downsize the federal civil service and is a major indication that the mass layoffs were unlawful and may eventually be reversed by the board.

 

It also signals the board may reverse the Trump administration’s approach to mass firings across several other agencies in the federal government.

Macron In Anti-Russia Rant Says France Considering Expanding Nuclear Umbrella To Europe

 

In the opening six months of the Ukraine-Russia war, France's President Emmanuel Macron came under fire in Europe for being one of the few major political leaders to hold regular diplomatic calls with Putin in an effort to solve the conflict and avoid further bloodshed in Eastern Europe.

 

Now he feels he has to go full hawk in response to US President Trump, as on Wednesday in a nationally televised address he claimed Putin is now threatening all of Europe and has declared, dubiously, that Russian aggression "knows no borders."

 

"We are entering a new era," he told his fellow countrymen in the address. "If a country can invade its neighbour in Europe and go unpunished, nobody can be sure of anything." That's when he asserted: "Beyond Ukraine, the Russian threat is real - it affects the European countries."

Sir Keir Starmer today signalled Labour would block a Tory MP's bid to introduce a legal ban on first cousins being able to marry in England and Wales.

Richard Holden, a Conservative shadow minister and MP for Basildon and Billericay, has proposed changes to existing marriage legislation.

Current laws state the prohibited degrees of relationship for marriage include those to a sibling, parent or child, but not marriages between first cousins.

Mr Holden's Marriage (Prohibited Degrees of Relationship) Bill is seeking to prohibit the marriage of first cousins.

His Bill is due to return before the House of Commons on Friday and, ahead of its scheduled second reading, Mr Holden pushed for Government support.

Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Holden urged Sir Keir to 'think again' after Downing Street previously indicated it had no plans to change the law.

'A marriage between first cousins carries significant health issues, many of which aren't even knowable until post-birth,' he told the PM.

'When practised generation after generation, there is a significant multiplier effect.'

Mr Holden added: 'In addition, the real impact for the openness of our society and women's rights in our country are also significant.

'After all, there are significant dynamics in having and sharing the same set of grandparents.

'On Friday, this Government has a choice to let my Bill to ban first cousin marriage go through to committee stage.

'Will the PM think again before instructing his whips to block this legislation?'

But Sir Keir signalled the Government would not be throwing its support behind Mr Holden's Bill, with the PM replying: 'We've taken our position on that Bill, thank you.'

The Tory MP was already facing a battle for his Bill to become law due to the amount of parliamentary time available for such private members' bills to clear the necessary stages.

Mr Holden first introduced his Bill to the Commons in December when it met opposition from independent MP Iqbal Mohamed.

The MP for Dewsbury and Batley, told the Commons last year that many people view family intermarriage as 'very positive'.

He said it was seen as something that could help 'build family bonds' and put families on a more secure financial foothold'.

Mr Mohamed admitted there were 'health risks' for the children of such marriages.

But he said a 'more positive approach' would be to 'facilitate advanced genetic test screening' for couples wishing to marry.

He also called for 'education programmes' to be targeted at those communities where family intermarriage is most common, as he urged MPs to reject an outright ban.

At the time, Downing Street indicated the Government had no plans to ban marriages between first cousins despite the health risks.

A No10 spokesman said: 'I think the expert advice on the risks of first-cousin marriage are clear.

'But in terms of legislation, the Government has set out its priorities.'

Mr Holden is pushing for a legislative change after noting that laws on first-cousin marriage have been left 'unchanged' since the reign of Henry VIII.

Bass’s political strategist dismissed the recall effort against the mayor, telling the LA Times it's “nothing more than another extreme right-wing political stunt designed to divide Los Angeles.

 

(The Center Square) - A petition is underway for recalling Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass over her wildfire response.

 

The effort would need to collect a minimum of approximately 330,000 signatures to force a recall, during which voters would also be able to select their choice of replacement mayor to serve the rest of the term.

 

Bass was criticized for leaving for Africa despite receiving advance warning of dangerous fire risks amid devastating wind gusts and low humidity after a period of little to no rain.

 

Bass ordered an investigation into why she was allowed to leave for Ghana as part of a Biden administration delegation to the nation’s presidential inauguration. The mayor later said former Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley downplayed risks.

 

The mayor fired Crowley in February.

 

Crowley has since launched a last-ditch bid to retain her post, which notably was backed by representatives of fire-damaged communities, including former mayoral candidate and billionaire developer Rick Caruso, who narrowly lost against Bass in 2022.

 

The former fire chief went Tuesday before the Los Angeles City Council, which voted 13-2 against reinstating her.

 

Crowley’s reinstatement was supported by Councilwoman Traci Park, whose Westside district faced severe destruction from the Palisades Fire, and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, whose San Fernando Valley district was heavily damaged by the Hurst Fire — signaling displeasure or disagreement with the mayor.

A recent recall effort for former Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon, who won only 38.5% of the vote in the 2024 election and lost to Nathan Hochman, failed to secure enough verified signatures to make it to the ballot. However, with a lower threshold than the countywide district attorney’s office, the mayoral recall may have a better chance.

 

Organizers for the recall said they would not respond to media requests at the moment, but added that more information would be forthcoming.

A Response’ to President Trump’s Congressional Address

As most Americans know, we are living in a pivotal moment in American history – facing unprecedented challenges. How we respond to this moment will impact not only OUR lives, but the lives of our kids and grandchildren and, in terms of climate change, the very health and well-being of our planet.

 

As you heard tonight, President Trump has been very effective in creating what I would call a “parallel universe” for his supporters – a set of ideas that either have NO basis in reality or, in the great scheme of things, are nowhere near the most important concerns of the American people.

 

And one way that he does that is through the concept of the BIG LIE. Say something that is grossly false, say it over and over again, and have right-wing social media blast it out endless times, until people actually believe it.

 

And then, rather than address the real issues facing the American people, we find ourselves wasting endless amounts of time discussing Trump’s absurdities.

 

Just a few examples:

 

Trump has claimed that the 2020 election was stolen from him and that he won by a landslide. A lie.

 

Trump has claimed that the January 6th insurrection was a day of love. A lie.

 

Trump has claimed that millions of undocumented people vote in American elections. A lie.

 

Trump has claimed that climate change is a hoax originating in China. A lie.

 

Trump has claimed that Ukraine started the horrific war with Russia. A lie.

 

And tonight, Trump claimed that millions of dead people between the ages of 100 and 360 were collecting Social Security checks. That is an outrageous lie intended to lay the groundwork for cuts to Social Security and dismantling the most successful and popular government program in history.

 

Let’s be clear: Well over 99% of Social Security checks are going out to people who earned those checks – 70 million people. Nobody who is 150 years old or 200 years old or 300 years old is receiving Social Security checks.

Now, the purpose of all of this lying is not just to push his hateful right-wing ideology. It is not just to try to divide us up. It’s more than that.

 

It’s a masterful effort to deflect attention away from the most important issues facing the people of our country, issues that Trump and his billionaire friends do not want to address because it’s not in their financial interests to do so.

 

Trump gave his “State of the Union” speech tonight. But that speech had very little to say ABOUT the state of the union – about what is REALLY going on in our country – especially for working families.

 

Trump spoke for 90 minutes and he almost completely ignored the issues that are keeping working people up at night – as they worry about how their families are going to survive in these tough times.

 

And I’ll tell you exactly WHY Trump had very little to say about the REAL crises facing the working class of this country.

 

Think back 6 weeks ago when Trump was inaugurated for his second term as President – just 6 weeks ago. Standing right behind him were the three wealthiest men in the country – Mr. Musk, Mr. Bezos and Mr. Zuckerberg. And standing behind THEM were 13 other billionaires who Trump had nominated to head major government agencies. Many of these same billionaires – including Musk – were there tonight.

 

In other words, it is there for all to see. They’re not hiding it. The Trump administration IS a government of the billionaire class, by the billionaire class and for the billionaire class.

 

Notwithstanding some of their rhetoric, this is a government that could care less about the working families of this country.

 

My friends. We are no longer MOVING TOWARD oligarchy. We are LIVING IN an oligarchy.

 

Now, let’s take a moment and try to escape from Trump’s parallel universe. Let’s do something really radical.

 

Let’s actually take a hard look at the problems that Americans are facing.

 

Today, 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Unlike Trump, I grew up in a family that lived paycheck to paycheck. And I know something about that reality.

 

It means that every day millions of Americans worry about how they’re going to pay their rent. Pay for childcare. Pay for a doctor’s visit when they get sick.

 

They worry about what happens when their car breaks down and they can’t afford the thousand bucks it costs to get it fixed, and what happens when they can’t get to work because they don’t have a car. They worry about how they can afford to buy healthy food for their children when the price of food is off the charts.

 

Funny. I did not hear one word from Trump tonight about the economic reality facing 60% of our people, or the enormous stress that they are living under.

 

But that’s not all.

Mr. President: You really want to Make America Great Again? Then make sure that every American, regardless of income, can go to a doctor or a hospital and not worry about how they’re going to pay the bills.

Nor did I hear you say why we pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs – sometimes 10 times more than the people in other countries – and why one out of four Americans are unable to afford the prescriptions that their doctors prescribe.

 

Mr. President: We have nearly 800,000 Americans who are homeless. Over 20 million of our people spend more than 50% of their limited income on housing. We have a major housing crisis in America – everyone knows it. And in your speech tonight, you didn’t even mention it.

 

Today in America, we have more income and wealth inequality than we have ever had. The three richest people in America, the folks Trump invited to stand behind him at his inauguration, now own more wealth than the bottom half of our society – 170 million Americans. Did you hear one word from the President on that enormously important issue which gets to the very fabric of our society?

 

And here’s something else the President forgot to discuss. Not only is our life expectancy 4 years lower than other wealthy countries, the bottom 50% in this country live, on average, 7 years shorter lives than the top 1%. In other words, being poor or working class in this country is a death sentence. Did you hear any discussion tonight as to why so many of our people are living shorter lives than they should?

 

During his speech tonight, Trump did not have one word to say about how we are going to address the planetary crisis of climate change. The last 10 years have been the warmest ever recorded, and extreme weather disturbances and natural disasters have been taking place all over the world – from California to India, across Europe to North Carolina. And yet, not surprisingly, Trump had nothing to say about climate change.

But that’s chump change compared to the benefits he’s going to give the 1%, and doesn’t tell the whole story about his tax policies.

 

According to a recent study by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, if all of Trump’s so-called “America First” policies are enacted, including his tariffs, the bottom 95% of Americans will see their taxes go up, while the richest 5% in our country will see their taxes go down. WAY DOWN.

 

Tonight, Trump urged Congress to pass his “big, beautiful” budget.

This budget would cut Medicaid by $880 billion. According to one estimate, it means that up to 36 million Americans, including millions of children, would be thrown off the health insurance they have.

 

It means that nursing homes that receive two-thirds of their funding from Medicaid would either have to shut down, lay off workers or significantly scale back the services they provide seniors.

For the past several weeks, he and Elon Musk have been throwing hundreds of thousands of federal employees off their jobs. Now, I know some of you are saying, “That’s too bad, but that’s the federal government, not me.”

 

But I want you to think about this: If they can arbitrarily throw federal workers out on the street today, what do you think that Musk and his fellow billionaires will be doing tomorrow when Artificial Intelligence and robotics explode in this country?

 

Do you think they’ll give a damn about you and your families? No. You’ll be out on the street as well.

 

But it is not only absurd domestic policies that we’ve got to fight.

 

For the first time in our 250-year history we have a president who is turning his back on democracy and allying us with authoritarianism. No. We must not abandon the people of Ukraine who were invaded by the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin. We must always stand for democracy, not dictatorship.

 

Let me be very clear. Regardless of where Trump is taking this country, here’s where I think Americans want to go:

 

They want us to end a corrupt campaign finance system, which allows a handful of billionaires to buy elections. It is beyond crazy that someone like Elon Musk can contribute over $270 million to help get Trump elected and then gets to run the government.

 

It is absurd that any Member of Congress who stands up to Netanyahu’s brutal war in Gaza can expect to be opposed by millions of dollars in campaign contributions from AIPAC.

 

They want us to end the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision and move to the public funding of elections. Democracy is supposed to be about one person, one vote – not billionaires buying the political candidates of their choice.

 

No. We should not be giving tax breaks to billionaires. We must demand that they pay their fair share of taxes.

 

We must raise the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour to a living wage of at least $17 an hour.

 

We must make it easier for workers to join trade unions, grow the union movement and prevent corporations from violating labor laws with impunity by passing the PRO Act – legislation I will be introducing tomorrow.

 

No, we’re not going to cut Social Security. Quite the contrary, we must expand Social Security benefits and extend its solvency for the next 75 years by scrapping the cap that allows a billionaire to pay the same amount into Social Security as a truck driver.

 

Instead of making massive cuts to Medicaid, we must join every other major country on earth in guaranteeing healthcare to all of our people through a Medicare for All, single-payer program.

 

We must also take on the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and reduce prescription drug prices by 50%.

 

At a time of a terrible housing crisis in every area of our country, we must build at least 4 million units of low-income and affordable housing, stop corporate landlords from jacking up rent prices and establish a cap on rent.

 

In a competitive global economy, we need the best educated workforce in the world. All of our young people must have the ability to get a higher education by making public colleges, trade schools and universities tuition-free and canceling student debt.

 

Yes. We can create millions of good-paying jobs by combating climate change and moving our energy system away from fossil fuels and into sustainable energy.

 

I heard a lot of talk about freedom tonight. Well, in a free society, we must absolutely guarantee that it is the women of America who control their own bodies, not the local, state or federal governments.

 

Now, I know there are a lot of people out there who are feeling angry and frustrated at what’s going on here in Washington, DC. And some of you may feel a bit hopeless.

(WACH) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged Erik Kenneth Sickinger with three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor - Second Degree, three counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Luring a Child Under 16 years of age on Tuesday, March 4.

 

Erik Sickinger was first elected to Irmo Town Council in 2020 and became Mayor Pro Tem in 2023.

 

On December 14, 2024, Sickinger allegedly committed sexual battery with a 15-year-old male while at Sickinger's residence.

 

The 15-year-old disclosed this information during a forensic interview with the Dickenson Children's Advocacy Center.

 

Lexington County Sheriff's Department requested the forensic interview pursuant to a runaway incident report, and Sickinger was identified through communication on the juvenile's Snapchat account.

 

The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals has just vindicated CJ Roberts.

 

The Court has just granted the Motion to Stay the Order of Judge Amy Berman Jackson that Hampton Dellinger remain as head of the Office of Special Counsel while he litigates the legality of his dismissal without cause in alleged violation of the statutory requirement that he can be removed only "for cause."

 

Chair of the MSPB Cathy Harris was allowed to join the proceedings as amicus – the same issue applies to her, with Judge Contreras having ordered that she remain in her position while litigating her dismissal.

 

This is "regular order". Judge Jackson issued a ruling on the merits Saturday night, granting summary judgment for Dellinger. The DOJ filed a Notice of Appeal, and a Motion to Stay Judge Jackson's order that Dellinger remain as head of the Office of Special Counsel.

 

The Appeals Court has now undone her Order while the appeal is pending. That means the TRO and Prelim Injunction are vacated and the firing of Dellinger is now back in effect.

 

I expect the same will happen next to Cathy Harris.

 

The Supreme Court held a motion to vacate Judge Jackson's TRO "in abeyance" while she was considering the merits. She acknowledged such during the hearing when she said she understood the Supreme Court was watching over her shoulder.

 

BUT, the Appeals Court has now done its job – meaning the decision by SCOTUS to respect "regular order" was the correct one.

 

That said the panel granting the stay has two GOP appointees Judge Henderson (Bush 41) and Judge Waker (Trump). DOJ was fortunate in the draw in that regard.

I need help understanding this SC ruling today. What exactly does the following mean in the order. How is the judge going to fulfill his obligation to know what deserves to be paid and to who? The best example I could come up with is the govt. securing an island. Russia has issued a calculated response, making it very clear Russia is not at war with Europe, Russia is taking back disputed territory inside Eastern Ukraine after the West threatened to invite NATO onto Russian boarders - something akin to our own Cuban Missile Crisis with the Soviet Union, a similar crisis between the US & Russia which was defused via diplomacy and peaceful settlement decades ago!

 

Finally, this afternoon, reports that Russian missiles are flying into Ukraine in droves, striking very many targets in the country. There is no longer any US Intel being provided to Ukraine, to stop them.

 

This is a consequence of bad diplomacy on the behalf of Zelensky. As is being proved - AGAIN! - Zelensky says one thing, then turns around and says something opposite the next day, claiming he wants Peace…. then claiming he wants to continue the War and security guarantees…. then says he'll make a deal, later on he refuses to sign the deal… then he begs to re-start negotiations, only to later say something hostile and blow up the whole deal again! Zelensky must be on drugs. There is no other way his behavior makes any sense.

The government should restore national service to bolster the potential deployment of British troops to Ukraine under a peace deal, a former defence minister has told PoliticsHome.

 

Tobias Ellwood, a former Tory MP who served as a minister as well as chair of the defence committee, said introducing a system of national service would give the UK a "latent capability" to respond to military challenges like protecting a Ukraine peace deal.

 

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday after hosting the European defence summit in London that the UK was willing to put "boots on the ground and planes in the air" to defend Ukraine from a future Russian attack.

 

The UK and France are hoping to convince other European governments to form a "coalition of the willing" — a commitment to protect any Ukrainian peace deal militarily.

 

Ellwood, who was a soldier before his 19 years as the Conservative MP for Bournemouth East, expressed doubt that the British military in its current form could maintain the sort of presence necessary for defending Ukraine. He said Britain would "struggle to maintain that for any length of time without the support of the reserves" due to rotation times.

 

"You would need reserve forces as well," he told PoliticsHome.

 

He added that while he believes there are enough reserves at the moment, the government should "bring back national service, not because it's particularly for Ukraine, although it would certainly help, it's more to have that latent capability embedded in society".

 

Britain's national service came to an end in the early 1960s, due to concerns about the economy and the large numbers of men being absorbed into the forces becoming a burden.

 

Former Tory prime minister Rishi Sunak announced a policy of reintroducing national service during the 2024 general election campaign. Under his manifesto proposal, every 18-year-old would have been required to spend time working in military or civilian service, with a royal commission being tasked with designing how the scheme would work.

 

"Wearing the uniform in one form or another is not for everybody," said Ellwood.

 

"But there are other ways that you can help defend and improve Britain's resilience.

 

"And at the moment, we're not particularly good at that."

 

Ellwood said women should be expected to come forward and contribute to national service in the same way as men, telling PoliticsHome: "I don't think there's a single role in the armed forces that's not open to women now… you're missing out on capability if you don't invite everybody to step forward."

 

He stressed, however, the importance of defining what "boots on the ground" means before allocating troops, describing the phrase as "short-term symbolism".

 

"We need to confirm whether there's an immediacy of preventing Russia's advancement, or is this about part of a peace deal that sees the current line, the contact line, become the new division between Russian-occupied territory and now what's left of Ukraine."

 

Ellwood also said there are problems with the term "peacekeeping", which has been used to describe the potential presence of British troops in the region.

 

"I've been involved in peacekeeping missions across the world," he said, adding that peacekeeping troops act as an "intermediary" between two adversaries, in this conflict the UK is "very much on one side of the fence".

 

Keir Starmer's official spokesperson on Tuesday said the Prime Minister is "full of admiration" for British troops after remarks by US vice-president JD Vance triggered outrage across the UK political spectrum.

 

Vance in an interview with Fox News poured scorn over the idea that European countries could provide Ukraine with military protection, describing them as “20,000 troops from some random country that has not fought a war in 30 or 40 years”.

 

Critics said his remarks insulted British troops who served alongside the US in recent conflicts, though Vance later described those claims as "absurdly dishonest".

California Councilmember's Husband Arrested by ICE for Illegal Reentry, Criminal History

The husband of Coachella City Councilmember Yadira Perez was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in a Walmart parking lot, with authorities citing his illegal reentry into the United States and prior criminal convictions as reasons for their actions. Perez, elected to the Council last year, resigned from her post as a deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department following the incident.

 

Federal authorities confirmed that Perez's husband, 51-year-old Isidro Jimenez, is a Mexican national who was previously deported in 1995 following a conviction for possession of methamphetamine for sale, as the Palm Springs Desert Sun reports.

 

ICE stated that Jimenez illegally reentered the U.S. and accumulated additional criminal convictions, including domestic violence in 1998, multiple DUIs, and an assault with a deadly weapon in 2023. His case was flagged during a review by ICE's National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center, leading to his arrest.

 

The timing of the arrest has raised questions among some community members and political observers, as NBC Palm Springs points out. Perez's election shifted the balance of power in Coachella's city government, leading some to speculate that her husband's arrest may have been politically motivated. Others argue that it was a routine enforcement action, given Jimenez's criminal history and previous deportation.

 

Jimenez was taken into custody and initially held at a detention center in San Bernardino County. Although he was later released on bond, federal prosecutors have requested a reconsideration of that decision. His legal status remains uncertain as court proceedings continue.

 

Coachella, designated as a sanctuary city since 2017, limits cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. However, Mayor Steven Hernandez clarified to The Palm Springs Desert Sun that local policies do not prevent federal agents from operating within city limits. "What we should do is continue to let residents know and immigrants know what their rights are," Hernandez said. "But we don't have the power nor authority to stop ICE or the FBI from carrying out those actions."
