Israel In Turmoil After Netanyahu Sacks Security Chief In Historic First

Political turmoil has engulfed the Israeli government, and spilled into the streets as anti-Netanyahu protesters are once again outraged. But this time it's over the unprecedented firing of the head of Israel’s domestic intelligence agency, Shin Bet. It marks the first time in history that a government has fired the Shin Bet's leader.

Starting a week ago Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had lost confidence in Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. And then by week's end his shock firing with the following statement: "The Israeli government, which is in charge of the Shin Bet, has lost all confidence in Ronen Bar, who continues to cling to his seat while cynically using the families of the kidnapped and politically incorrect use of his position to fabricate futile, unfounded investigations."

"Ronen had the opportunity to retire with honor after his searing failure on October 7 … But [he] preferred not to attend the government meeting dealing with his case," the statement continued.

Bar's supporters, who are demonstrating against his sacking in the thousands, believe he's serving as a scapegoat for Netanyahu's own policy failures.

But the prime minister’s office has followed with on Friday, "The government unanimously approved prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to end ISA [Israeli Security Agency] director Ronen Bar’s term of office." Over all the PM's office is citing lack of trust in Bar.

Bar too has described his dismissal as ultimately motivated by Netanyahu’s "personal interests". In a letter he strongly suggested the problems which led to the security failures of Oct.7 originated from the top: "a policy of quiet had enabled Hamas to undergo massive military buildup" - he said of the lead-up to the terror attack on southern Israel.

He added: "The dismissal of the head of the service at this time at the initiative of the Prime Minister sends a message to all those involved, a message that could put the optimal outcome of the investigation at risk. This is a direct danger to the security of the State of Israel."

Bar's tenure was supposed to extend and end next year, and has been investigating Netanyahu’s close aides for alleged breaches of national security. This includes allegations of selective leaks given to the media in order to improve the Netanyahu government's image.

Bar is charging that Netanyahu's firing him is about covering up serious problems in the administration, including "prevent investigations into the events leading up to October 7 and other serious matters.

Ukraine Invests in Western Border – $1.5B Ski Resort

The war in Ukraine has left the nation utterly insolvent, almost entirely reliant on foreign aid. President Zelensky claims he cannot account for billions in aid, urging world leaders to send more rapidly as he must prevent Russia from invading all of Europe. The GORO Mountain Resort project was supposed to begin in 2022, but was delayed due to the obvious. OKKO Group, Ukraine’s largest network of gas stations, suddenly changed plans and believes now is the time to begin building the project that will take an estimated 15 years to complete.

As a bonus, GORO Mountain Resort will be located in Lviv, adjacent to Ukraine’s border with Poland. Poland’s defense budget has multiplied as it rushes to fight off Russian aggression at its own border. Donald Tusk has demanded that every male in Poland undergo military training, and he plans to expand the nation’s 200,000 army to one boasting 500,000 troops, which would make it the third-largest military force in NATO behind the United States and Turkey. In November 2024, 55% of Poles said they supported ending the war even if Ukraine was forced to surrender territory. The people do not want war but those at the helm will send them off to die under the guise of protecting national sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has threatened neighboring nations like Poland with untold repercussions if they fail to strangle their own agricultural sector by extending Ukraine’s duty-free trade deal. Ukraine has warned that Eastern European nations will suffer the worst of the consequences.

Cori Bush’s Husband Indicted On Federal Charges

The husband of former far-left Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) was hit with federal charges this week alleging that he committed wire fraud related to the pandemic-era Paycheck Protection and Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs.

Cortney Merritts, 46, faces two counts of wire fraud for allegedly filing bogus applications in 2020 and 2021 with the United States Small Business Administration.

The indictment alleges that he obtained nearly $21,000 from the programs for his own benefit and enjoyment by lying on the applications about a company that he owned, including how many employees he had and the amount of revenue the company generated.

The Washington Post reported that while the indictment was signed by United States Attorney Ed Martin, President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as permanent top prosecutor in D.C., the investigation was launched during the Biden administration.

Federal prosecutors ordered that he immediately forfeit to the United States any property connected to the alleged crime.

Merritts’ attorney Justin Gelfand responded to the allegations: “We look forward to litigating this case in the courtroom.”

Bush was under federal criminal investigation last year over allegations that she misspent funds meant for personal security when she paid Merritts tens of thousands of campaign dollars to be her security guard.

The current status of the investigation is not known. No charges have been filed and she has not been formally accused of any criminal wrongdoing.

Bush represented her St. Louis-area district since 2021 after she toppled Rep. Lacy Clay (D-MO) in the 2020 primary, and over the years, she has faced scrutiny over payments for private security despite her calls to defund the police.

Her campaign has spent more than $750,000 on security services since 2019, according to federal election data. The congresswoman has previously said she was doling out money for protection because of attempts on her life.

She lost her seat in 2024 when she lost her primary to then-St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell, a more moderate Democrat.

This incident typifies how, in this 400-page memoir of her seven years at Facebook from 2011 – as it mutated from niche social network to global power able to swing elections, target body-shamed teens with beauty products and monetise millions of humans’ hitherto private data – Wynn-Williams had become part of what reads like a diabolical cult run by emotionally stunted men babies, institutionally enabled sexual harassers and hypocritical virtue-signalling narcissists.

The cult vibe of this birthing story is made stronger by Wynn-Williams channelling Sandberg’s 2013 book Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. She quotes Sandberg’s injunction to pregnant working women – “Don’t leave before you leave” – taking its implication to be that she should work right up to the point that the baby’s head emerges into this fallen world. It doesn’t occur to her that Lean In feminism might serve as a fig leaf covering self-exploitation and soul-depleting workaholism.

Israeli media label victims as terrorists and omit the toll of the military's bombardment on civilians

On one of the deadliest days in Gaza since the Israeli war began in 2023, air strikes killed more than 400 Palestinians on Tuesday, including more than 180 children and 90 women, in a matter of hours.

The attacks, which violated the ceasefire agreement, were carried out during the holy month of Ramadan. But they were covered differently in Israeli media compared with the rest of the world.

Avi Ashkenazi, a military correspondent for the right-wing Maariv newspaper, wrote that "Israel wanted to hit as many Hamas members as possible in the first strike of the attack". He added that the Muslim fasting month "helped to carry out the mission".

"The Shin Bet and Military Intelligence have prepared the addresses where Hamas members are supposed to be found and hold the night suppers," Ashkenazi wrote.

Aside from the military perspective reported in Israeli media, the attack and its bloody results were covered without reference to the number of children killed. In some cases, all those killed were labelled as terrorists.
