Unhinged Biden Judge from Uruguay Yells at DOJ Lawyers During Hearing on Transgender Military Ban Case

 

The Trump Administration on Friday updated its policy on troops with gender dysphoria asked Judge Reyes to dissolve her preliminary injunction.

 

The Biden-appointed judge immediately called a hearing and used it as an opportunity to shout at DOJ lawyers. Obviously, her mind is already made up.

 

Earlier this week, Judge Ana Reyes, a Biden appointee from Uruguay, issued a temporary nationwide injunction blocking Trump’s transgender military ban.

 

DOJ attorneys were back in court on Friday asking Judge Reyes to dissolve her injunction.

 

In January President Trump signed the “Restoring America’s Fighting Force” executive order and the “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness” executive orders, which direct every element of the U.S. military to “operate free from any preference based on race or sex” and root out gender insanity and made up pronoun usage, respectively.

 

Judge Reyes grilled DOJ lawyers last month and said that Trump’s executive order asserting there are only two genders is “not biologically correct.”

Judge Reyes has a history of abusing Trump’s DOJ lawyers.

 

Last month, the Justice Department filed a formal complaint against a federal judge assigned to Trump’s executive order on transgender troops for engaging in “egregious misconduct” toward its counsel.

 

The Justice Department detailed Judge Reyes’ shocking statements toward its attorneys in last month’s hearing.

 

“During these hearings, Judge Reyes engaged in hostile and egregious misconduct that violates Canons 2A and 3A(3) of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges, which requires judges to “act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary” and “be patient, dignified, respectful, and courteous to litigants,” the DOJ wrote in a complaint against Judge Reyes.

 

The DOJ detailed two incidents of abuse of its attorneys.

 

The Justice Department said during her lecture on the “30 different intersex examples,” Judge Reyes grilled one of its lawyers about his religious beliefs and then used him unwillingly as a “physical prop in her courtroom theatrics,” the DOJ wrote.

 

The DOJ asked that “appropriate action be taken to address” the violations and requested an investigation.

Cori Bush’s Husband Indicted On Federal Charges

 

The husband of former far-left Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) was hit with federal charges this week alleging that he committed wire fraud related to the pandemic-era Paycheck Protection and Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs.

Bush was under federal criminal investigation last year over allegations that she misspent funds meant for personal security when she paid Merritts tens of thousands of campaign dollars to be her security guard.

 

The current status of the investigation is not known. No charges have been filed and she has not been formally accused of any criminal wrongdoing.

 

Bush represented her St. Louis-area district since 2021 after she toppled Rep. Lacy Clay (D-MO) in the 2020 primary, and over the years, she has faced scrutiny over payments for private security despite her calls to defund the police.

 

Her campaign has spent more than $750,000 on security services since 2019, according to federal election data. The congresswoman has previously said she was doling out money for protection because of attempts on her life.

President Donald Trump says DEI initiatives are discriminatory and has banned DEI programs administered by federal agencies and government contractors.

 

Carr in February opened an investigation into DEI programs at Verizon and Comcast. His move to block M&A could threaten major deals in the communications sector, including Paramount Global's merger with Skydance Media and Verizon's acquisition of Frontier Communications, per Bloomberg.

 

"We can only under the statute move forward and approve a transaction if we find that doing so serves the public interest," Carr said.

 

"If there's businesses out there that are still promoting invidious forms of DEI discrimination, I really don’t see a path forward where the FCC could reach the conclusion that approving the transaction is going to be in the public interest."

The Justice Department's new stance contradicts the position it took during Biden's administration, when prosecutors argued in a criminal case against Trump — one that has since been dismissed — that many of his actions surrounding the riot were unrelated to his official responsibilities.

 

Trump, since returning to the presidency in January, has moved to exert control over the Justice Department, and its new senior officials have demanded that government lawyers be faithful to his agenda.

 

Police officers and Democrat lawmakers filed eight civil lawsuits against Trump — now consolidated and being handled by Mehta — seeking monetary damages in the aftermath of the attack, arguing that he directed and aided assaults on police because of the speech he delivered shortly before the attack began.

 

Trump has denied the allegations made against him in the litigation and has asked the judge to deem him immune on the grounds the he was acting in his formal role as president.

 

Lawyers for several of the plaintiffs did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

 

The plaintiffs have urged Mehta to reject Trump's immunity claim. The judge has not yet ruled. A federal appeals court previously rejected Trump's immunity claim in the lawsuits, but let him renew his argument if he brought forward evidence that he was acting in his role as president rather than as a political candidate.

A criminal probe has been launched by Russia’s Investigative Committee into the destruction of an energy facility on the border with Ukraine

 

Russia’s Investigative Committee has classified the attackon the Sudzha gas metering station on the border with Ukraine asan act of terrorism and launched a criminal probe, according to a statement. The incident in Kursk Region took place early on Friday.

 

The facility had been previously used to deliver natural gas from Russia via Ukraine to consumers in European nations.

 

”On Thursday, Ukrainian military personnel, who had illegally invaded Russian territory, carried out a targeted bombing of the station. As a result,the facility suffered significant damage,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement on Telegram on Friday. The authorities have vowed to identify and bring to justice those involved in the crime.

 

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, and agreed to a US-mediated partial ceasefire. Under its terms, Moscow pledged to refrain from attacks against Ukrainian energy infrastructure in exchange for a similar moratorium by Kiev. Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky also agreed to the plan.

 

The next day, the Defense Ministry reported aUkrainian strike on an oil depot in Krasnodar Regionand labeled it a provocation meant to disrupt Trump’s peace initiative.

 

The latest attack on Sudzha isevidence that Kiev cannot be trusted, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. He added that Putin’s order not to attack Ukrainian energy sites remained in force, per his agreement with Trump.

 

Ukrainian forces seized the site last August during their incursion into Kursk Region and used it as a secure logistics base, Russia’s Defense Ministry said earlier. The station, located close to the border, was deliberately blown up during the Ukrainian retreat, it explained.

 

Kiev launched an assault into Kursk Region hoping to seize Russian territory and use it as leverage in negotiations. Russian forces have since largely ousted Ukrainian troops, with Sudzha, previously a linchpin of Kiev’s operations, being liberated earlier this month.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Friday said that he has received confirmation from the president that the U.S. will eliminate income taxes on households making less than $150K a year,if he successfully balances the budget.

 

President Donald Trump previously teased eliminating the federal income tax in January, claiming that if his plans with tariffs work out then he would eliminate the federal tax.

 

Lutnick told the “All In” podcast that he was recently in the car with the president when the idea was floated again.

 

“I’m in the car with him and I said we’re going to balance the budget,’ Lutnick said. “And I said, ‘But I have one favor to ask you: If we can balance the budget for you, will you agree to waive all income tax for every person who makes less than $150k a year in the United States of America?’ Which, by the way, is about 85% of Americans.

Interim District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Ed Martin said the “Special Unit: Election Accountability" has already opened one investigation and “will continue to make sure that all the election laws of our nation are obeyed,” according to the email reviewed by The Associated Press.

 

Martin, who is awaiting Senate confirmation to permanently take the position, was involved in the “Stop the Steal" movement, which was animated by lies about fraud after Trump lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden. Martin also served on the board of a nonprofit that raised money for Capitol riot defendants and their families and legally represented at least three defendants in Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot criminal cases, including a Proud Boys member who pleaded guilty to felony charges.

 

In the email announcing the new unit,Martin recounted uncovering “voter registration fraud” while serving as chairman of the Board of Elections in St. Louis years ago. That led to the implementation of “accountability measures to make sure that electronic machines had a paper trail,"he wrote.

 

“Nearly 20 years later, Americans do not have confidence in our election systems," Martin wrote. “One of the best ways to restore that confidence is to protect our systems and demand accountability.”

The Trump administration had been expected to shift the Justice Department’s priorities around investigating voting and elections. The agency has historically targeted voter suppression efforts and state laws that could disenfranchise certain groups, but conservatives have called for an increased focus on voter fraud.

 

The scope of Martin's unit is unclear and raises questions about whether he is seeking to investigate cases outside the realm of his authority, which is limited to the District of Columbia, said David Becker, a former U.S. Justice Department attorney who leads the Center for Election Innovation and Research, a Washington-based nonprofit.

 

“I’m waiting to see more about what this unit actually is, what jurisdiction it purports to claim, what authority it tends to seize and what laws it purports to enforce,” Becker said.

 

Voting and elections experts expressed doubts that the new unit would improve American's confidence in elections.

 

The false idea that there is rampant fraud in U.S. elections “undermines public faith” in the vote, rather than bolstering it, said Sean Morales-Doyle, director of the voting rights program at the nonprofitBrennan Center for Justice,

 

There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. The results were confirmed through multiple recounts, reviews and audits. Trump lost dozens of court challenges, including before judges he appointed during his first term. Republicans in 2024 filed numerous lawsuits ahead of the presidential election about various aspects of vote-casting and voter roll management, setting the stage to contest the results if Trump had lost.

 

Martin has roiled the D.C. U.S. attorney’s office since he was appointed to the job in January. He recently demoted senior leaders who handled politically sensitive cases and forced the chief of the office’s criminal division to resign after directing her to scrutinize the awarding of a government contract during the Biden administration.

 

Martin has also raised eyebrows for describing federal prosecutors as the “president’s lawyers,” using his office as a platform for parroting Trump’s political priorities and sending warning letters to at least two members of Congress for statements they had made. He recently sent a “letter of inquiry” to Georgetown University Law Center's dean that warned that his office won’t hire the private school’s students if it doesn’t eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

Brussels Backtracks: EU Drops €40 Billion Ukraine Aid Package

Despite the EU’s foreign policy chief’s claims about “broad political support,” opposition from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal has derailed Brussels’ ambitious military package.

After weeks of preparations and repeated assurances that the EU was close to approving its ambitious €40 billion military aid package for Ukraine, Brussels suddenly walked back on the plan. At the last minute, it was removed from the EU Council’s agenda, just as EU leaders gathered for yet another summit on Thursday, March 20th.

 

The ‘Kallas plan,’ named after the EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, envisioned doubling the EU’s military aid to an ambitious €40 billion in 2025. This included buying two million artillery rounds for €5 billion, followed by air defense systems, missiles, drones, fighter jets, and other lethal and non-lethal equipment for up to €35 billion to be delivered by the end of the year.

 

As we reported a few days ago, Kallas claimed that there was “broad political support” among member states for the plan following a foreign ministerial meeting on Monday. She said that only some of the technical details regarding calculating individual contributions were left to be finalized.

 

Specifically, large southern European countries opposed Kallas’ proposal that each member state should contribute “their fair share” relative to GDP. They asked Brussels to find other ways, possibly by incorporating the remaining profits generated by Russia’s frozen assets.

 

Three days later, it turns out that the disagreements about financing the plan ran deeper than Kallas would have let us believe. On Wednesday, it was reported that the Kallas plan had been delayed and removed from the summit’s agenda after strong resistance and the threat of vetoes from half a dozen member states, including some of the biggest EU countries who usually boast about their unconditional support for Ukraine.

 

Instead, the latest version of the plan will focus solely on delivering the two million artillery rounds this year, which in itself could prove tricky, given that the EU failed spectacularly on its previous pledge of delivering half of that amount in 2023.

 

According to media reports, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal oppose the €40 billion figure, along with the pro-peace Central European countries Hungary and Slovakia, who previously said they would not veto the scheme as long as they are allowed not to participate in it.

 

France, Italy, and Spain—boasting the largest European economies after Germany—all gave economic and budgetary reasons for not backing the plan this time. They also called for caution against military escalation and suggested it would be a good idea to see how the ongoing U.S.-led peace process turns out.
