European nations reconsidering troop deployment in Ukraine – FT

Supporters of Kiev are shifting their strategy toward air and sea patrols, according to the newspaper

European nationssupporting Ukraine in the conflict with Russiaare shifting away from the idea of deploying troops to the country, the Financial Times reported on Thursday. No Boots on the Ground!

The claim is based on public statements from British Prime Minister KeirStarmer, who this week hosted military planners from 31 countries, as well as insider accounts of the discussions on how European nations could approach the end of hostilities. Russia has insisted that it will not tolerate troops from NATO countries in Ukraine, regardless of how such a mission is branded by the US-led military bloc. Proponents such as UK leader Starmer have advocated for a so-called “peacekeeping force” to oversee a potential ceasefire.

The FT describeda “noticeable shift from European ground troops to air and sea patrols” during a recent phone call regarding Western strategy, citing a participant in the discussion. Additionally,Starmer has reportedly acknowledged that the US will not provide a military “backstop”for any mission in Ukraine, as was publicly stated by the administration of President Donald Trump.

Trump aims to transfer responsibility for Ukrainian security to European NATO members afternegotiating a truce with Russia, asserting that the US and NATO should play no role in future arrangements.

Meanwhile, the EU faces challenges in replacing US military assistance for Kiev. Member states failed to reach an agreement on Thursday concerning €40 billion ($43 billion) in additional military aid for Ukraine, a proposal pushed by the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas. A less ambitious plan to allocate €5 billion ($5.4 billion) to supply 2 million artillery shells reportedly remains stuck in diplomatic limbo.

https://www.rt.com/news/614586-ukraine-peacekeepers-no-boots/

(As time goes on Macron and Starmer's failed plan, to make themselves heros they create more war, by shipping in peacekeepers, it already blew up. It could have blow up into a Nuclear war if FR & UK interfere with Russia and Ukraine, but it's fizzling out for good. The reason why they did it, is they just wanted to the attention, because both of the approval ratings in their countries, are miserable. NO ONE LIKES THEM. So they donned the Hero Cape, to act like men and leaders, which both of them fail at. Each update on the plans get cut, because it turns out, legally and militarily and money wise, they could never do it. So they have pushed this bullshit since last summer of 2024. and almost daily since Jan. 2025.)

Ukrainian attack on gas facility an act of terrorism – Moscow

A criminal probe has been launched by Russia’s Investigative Committee into the destruction of an energy facility on the border with Ukraine

Russia’s Investigative Committee has classified the attackon the Sudzha gas metering station on the border with Ukraine asan act of terrorism and launched a criminal probe, according to a statement. The incident in Kursk Region took place early on Friday.

The facility had been previously used to deliver natural gas from Russia via Ukraine to consumers in European nations.

”On Thursday, Ukrainian military personnel, who had illegally invaded Russian territory, carried out a targeted bombing of the station. As a result, the facility suffered significant damage,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement on Telegram on Friday. The authorities have vowed to identify and bring to justice those involved in the crime.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, and agreed to a US-mediated partial ceasefire. Under its terms, Moscow pledged to refrain from attacks against Ukrainian energy infrastructure in exchange for a similar moratorium by Kiev. Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky also agreed to the plan.

The next day, the Defense Ministry reported aUkrainian strike on an oil depot in Krasnodar Regionand labeled it a provocation meant to disrupt Trump’s peace initiative.

The latest attack on Sudzha isevidence that Kiev cannot be trusted, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. He added that Putin’s order not to attack Ukrainian energy sites remained in force, per his agreement with Trump.

Ukrainian forces seized the site last August during their incursion into Kursk Region and used it as a secure logistics base, Russia’s Defense Ministry said earlier. The station, located close to the border, was deliberately blown up during the Ukrainian retreat, it explained.

Kiev launched an assault into Kursk Region hoping to seize Russian territory and use it as leverage in negotiations. Russian forces have since largely ousted Ukrainian troops, with Sudzha, previously a linchpin of Kiev’s operations, being liberated earlier this month.

Top DC Prosecutor, Who Promoted False 2020 Voter Fraud Claims, Forms 'Election Accountability' Unit

The top federal prosecutor for the nation’s capital, who promoted President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was rigged, has formed a “special unit” to investigate election offenses, according to an email sent to lawyers in his office By Associated PressMarch 17, 2025, at 5:51 p.m.1/2

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top federal prosecutor for the nation's capital, who promoted President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was rigged, has formed a “special unit” to investigate election offenses, according to an email sent to lawyers in his office on Monday.

Interim District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Ed Martin said the “Special Unit: Election Accountability" has already opened one investigation and “will continue to make sure that all the election laws of our nation are obeyed,” according to the email reviewed by The Associated Press.

Martin, who is awaiting Senate confirmation to permanently take the position, was involved in the “Stop the Steal" movement, which was animated by lies about fraud after Trump lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden. Martin also served on the board of a nonprofit that raised money for Capitol riot defendants and their families and legally represented at least three defendants in Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot criminal cases, including a Proud Boys member who pleaded guilty to felony charges.

In the email announcing the new unit,Martin recounted uncovering “voter registration fraud” while serving as chairman of the Board of Elections in St. Louis years ago. That led to the implementation of “accountability measures to make sure that electronic machines had a paper trail,"he wrote.

“Nearly 20 years later, Americans do not have confidence in our election systems," Martin wrote. “One of the best ways to restore that confidence is to protect our systems and demand accountability.”

Martindid not provide additional details about the investigation his office has already opened, and spokespeople for the office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Officials at the Justice Department didn’t immediately respond to questions about Martin’s effort, which was first reported by Bloomberg Law.

Democrats reacted skeptically to Martin establishing the unit, noting his involvement with Trump's efforts to spread false claims about the 2020 election.

• California Sen. Alex Padilla, the top Democrat on the Senate Rules Committee, which oversees elections, said he is concerned that the unit would be “more focused on attacking political enemies than protecting all Americans’ right to vote in free and fair elections.”

• Maryland Rep.Jamie Raskin said Martin’s new unit is “all about installing a nationwide policy of ‘heads I win, tails you lose.’”

• “If the GOP wins, there’s a mandate to trash the Constitution; if they lose, it means the election was stolen,” said Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. “America is going to have to defend free and fair elections against these autocrats and veteran saboteurs of democracy.”

Martin already has a lot of big names freaked out, because they know he has to experience and professional investigative training to uncover the truththey should be freaked.

Panic in DC, at nuclear level

2/2

The Trump administration had been expected to shift the Justice Department’s priorities around investigating voting and elections. The agency has historically targeted voter suppression efforts and state laws that could disenfranchise certain groups, but conservatives have called for an increased focus on voter fraud.

The scope of Martin's unit is unclear and raises questions about whether he is seeking to investigate cases outside the realm of his authority, which is limited to the District of Columbia, said David Becker, a former U.S. Justice Department attorney who leads the Center for Election Innovation and Research, a Washington-based nonprofit.

“I’m waiting to see more about what this unit actually is, what jurisdiction it purports to claim, what authority it tends to seize and what laws it purports to enforce,” Becker said.

Voting and elections experts expressed doubts that the new unit would improve American's confidence in elections.

The false idea that there is rampant fraud in U.S. elections “undermines public faith” in the vote, rather than bolstering it, said Sean Morales-Doyle, director of the voting rights program at the nonprofitBrennan Center for Justice,

There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. The results were confirmed through multiple recounts, reviews and audits. Trump lost dozens of court challenges, including before judges he appointed during his first term. His allies also have raised the specter of widespread illegal noncitizen voting in U.S. elections, though in reality this form of fraud is exceptionally rare.

Republicans in 2024 filed numerous lawsuits ahead of the presidential election about various aspects of vote-casting and voter roll management, setting the stage to contest the results if Trump had lost.

Martin has roiled the D.C. U.S. attorney’s office since he was appointed to the job in January. He recently demoted senior leaders who handled politically sensitive cases and forced the chief of the office’s criminal division to resign after directing her to scrutinize the awarding of a government contract during the Biden administration.

Martin has also raised eyebrows for describing federal prosecutors as the “president’s lawyers,” using his office as a platform for parroting Trump’s political priorities and sending warning letters to at least two members of Congress for statements they had made. He recently sent a “letter of inquiry” to Georgetown University Law Center's dean that warned that his office won’t hire the private school’s students if it doesn’t eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

Conor McGregor touts bid for Irish presidency

The former UFC star has vowed to oppose EU immigration policy in Ireland if elected

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has again announced that he’ll run for Irish president in this year’s elections, and promised to oppose the EU Migration Pact, adopted by the European Parliament last year, if he wins.

“The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill? I will!”McGregor wrote on X on Thursday.

“As President, I would put forth this bill to referendum,” he wrote, adding that “it is neither mine nor governments choice to make. It is the people of Ireland’s choice!”

The post comes just days after McGregor met with US President Donald Trump in the White House. Speaking to the press afterwardsMcGregor accused the Irish government of politically disenfranchising the people of Ireland.

Irish Prime Minister (Taoisaech) Micheal Martin later criticized McGregor on X, calling the fighter wrong and opposing the views of the Irish people.

In 2023, McGregor emerged as a frontman for Ireland’s underrepresented right wing, publicly criticizing the Irish immigration system after an Algerian-born man stabbed three children and a care worker outside a school in Dublin.

Ireland’s government later accused McGregor of stoking the riots that broke out following the attack.

Despite a cult following, the fighter remains a divisive and controversial figure. Last year, a civil trial in an Irish court found McGregor guilty of raping a woman in 2018. The former UFC star has appealed the verdict, requesting to file evidence, and claimed that he only had consensual sex.

Musk decries ‘crazy’ Obama-era disinfo operation

The federal government allegedly collaborated with “media censorship organizations” to manipulate public discourse from 2016

Elon Musk has described as “crazy” a federal initiative which allegedly sought to silence US citizens under the guise of fighting foreign disinformation. The Global Engagement Center (GEC), part of the US State Department, was launched in 2016 under President Barack Obama and operated until its closure in December 2024.

The GEC is the subject of an investigation by the conservative advocacy group America First Legal (AFL) published on Thursday. The report scrutinized GEC communications with Washington'sprimary fundingchannel for political projects abroad, the US Agency for International Development(USAID); the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office(FCDO); and various “media censorship organizations,” includingPoynter and NewsGuard— both of which brand themselves as watchdogs against misinformation, the latter boasting former CIA staffamong its founders and board.

According to AFL, the entities allegedly “work[ed] in lock-step to manipulate public discourse, control media narratives, and suppress free speech,” based on documents obtained through litigation against the GEC.

“Wow, this is crazy!” Musk wrote on X, reposting a link to the report.

ThePoynter Institute’sInternational Fact-Checking Network receivedat least $492,000from organizationstied to billionaire activist George Sorosbetween 2016 and 2020. Claiming to advise social media companies on content moderation policies, the network has been labeled a “global Soros-backed Ministry of Truth” by critics.

NewsGuard claims to independentlyevaluate the credibility of online sources while featuring senior figures from the US national security apparatus on its advisory board, including former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and ex-CIA and NSA Director Michael Hayden.

”The partnership between USAID and the Global Engagement Center is bad news for the American people,” stated AFL legal counsel Andrew Block regarding the organization’s recent disclosures. “Add in the fact that they were coordinating with internet censorship enforcers at NewsGuard and Poynter, and you can start to see just how dangerous this unholy alliance is for free speech and free expression.”

UAE commits to $1.4 trillion US investment, White House says

Steve Holland and Federico Maccioni Fri, March 21, 2025 at 9:49 AM EDT

WASHINGTON/DUBAI (Reuters) -The United Arab Emirates has committed to a 10-year, $1.4 trillion investment framework in the United States after top UAE officials met President Donald Trump this week, the White House said on Friday.

The framework will"substantially increase the UAE's existing investments in the U.S. economy" in AI infrastructure, semiconductors, energy, and manufacturing, the White House said in a statement.

The White House did not outline how UAE investments would reach $1.4 trillion, with some of the deals unveiled as part of the framework having already been announced.

The only fully new deal appeared to be an investment by Emirates Global Aluminium in what would be the first new aluminum smelter in the United States in 35 years, the White House said, adding the plant "would nearly double U.S. domestic aluminum production".

"Developing a primary aluminium smelter in the U.S. has been part of EGA's ambitions for several years," a spokesperson for the firm said in a statement.

The UAE, an oil producer and longtime security partner of the U.S., is looking to deepen investment ties with Washington and is emerging as a global leader in AI, one of the sectors it is betting on to diversify its economy away from energy.

In September, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met former U.S. President Joe Biden, in the first visit of a UAE president to the White House, as the two leaders discussed deepening cooperation in areas such as AI, investments and space exploration.

Gulf sovereign wealth funds, including Abu Dhabi's $330-billion Mubadala, are already big U.S. investors, and Trump and his family have business ties to the region.

OVAL OFFICE MEETING

Trump in January asked Saudi Arabia to spend upwards of $1 trillion in the U.S. economy, over four years, including purchases of military equipment, and said this month he likely would make his first trip abroad to the Gulf country to seal an investment agreement.

The deal, which could happen between this month or the next, would come at a time when Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's biggest economy, has been taking a more prominent role in U.S. foreign policy. The Gulf country is set to host diplomatic talks around Ukraine involving the United States and Russia next week.

The White House said on Friday the UAE agreement resulted from ameeting that Trump held on Tuesday with national security adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the Oval Office and a dinner that Vice President JD Vance and several cabinet members held with the UAE delegation, which included the heads of major UAE sovereign wealth funds and corporations.

Among the tie-ups highlighted on Friday was a partnership between UAE sovereign wealth fund ADQ, which is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon, and U.S. private equity firm Energy Capital Partners, for a $25 billion U.S.-focused initiative to invest in energy infrastructure and data centers. That had been previously announced two days ago.

A commitment by XRG, the international investment arm of UAE state oil company ADNOC launched in November, to support U.S. natural gas production and exports with an investment in the NextDecade liquefied natural gas export facility in Texas, had previously been made public last year by ADNOC, under Biden.
