Minnesota homeschool enrollment reaches highest ever.

Minnesota homeschool enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year is the highest on record, surpassing even the spike during COVID and school closures. Since pre-COVID, homeschool enrollment is up 50.8 percent.

New and expanding homeschool classes, tutoring, co-operatives, and resources may mean more families are perhaps realizing they can handle home education. Minnesota home educators say their top three reasons for homeschooling — “family time” and “dissatisfaction with traditional schools” came in each at 56 percent, followed by “lifestyle flexibility” at 49% and “religious or philosophical beliefs” at 32 percent.

Minnesota legalized homeschooling in 1987 under H.F. 432, which modified the state’s compulsory attendance laws to include homeschool.

Inside The Now-Shuttered Federal Agency Where Employees Lived ‘Like Reigning Kings’.

The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) occupied a nine-story office tower on D.C.’s K Street for only 60 employees, many of whom actually worked from home, prior to the pandemic. Its managers had luxury suites with full bathrooms; one manager would often be “in the shower” when she was needed, while another used her bathroom as a cigarette lounge. FMCS recorded its director as being on a years-long business trip to D.C. so he could have all of his meals and living expenses covered by taxpayers, simply for showing up to the office.

FMCS is a 230-employee agency that exists to serve as a voluntary mediator between unions and businesses. As an “independent agency,” its director nominally reports to the president, but the agency is so small that in effect, there is no oversight at all — and it showed, becoming a real-life caricature of all the excesses that the Department of Government Efficiency has alleged take place in government.

New home construction surged in February, as housing starts jumped 11.2 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.5 million, far surpassing expectations.

The increase was led by a strong rebound in single-family homebuilding, a sign that builders are responding to demand despite lingering concerns over mortgage rates and supply constraints. Single-family starts rose 11.4 percent to an annualized 1.11 million, the fastest pace in a year.

Economists had expected an increase in starts in February after an unusually cold January held back new projects. But the actual surge far exceeded expectations for a pace of 1.38 million starts. The January figure was revised down to 1.35 million from 1.366 million.

The surge in housing starts comes at a time when supply constraints have kept home prices elevated. While some analysts have pointed to mortgage rates as a potential headwind, builders are clearly moving forward with new projects, suggesting confidence in future demand.

The increase in new home construction also stands in contrast to some of the more downbeat economic indicators in recent weeks. While reports on consumer sentiment and retail sales have pointed to some lingering uncertainty, the housing sector’s strength signals that parts of the economy are still expanding.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has saved U.S. taxpayers $115 billion, according to the official website’s latest update.

DOGE savings have increased to $115 billion, which DOGE notes is a “combination of asset sales, contract/lease cancellations and renegotiations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, interest savings, programmatic changes, regulatory savings, and workforce reductions.”

This breaks down to roughly $714.29 saved per U.S. taxpayer, of which it estimates there are 161 million.

An anti-Trump FBI agent was arrested and charged for disclosing classified information.

Johnathan Buma allegedly disclosed internal classified documents and text messages to associates.

Court documents revealed that Johnathan Buma had printed 130 files from the FBI’s internal network, with many of the documents marked with warnings that the information is confidential.

The feds nabbed Johnathan Buma just as he was about to hop on an international flight on Monday.

Buma, a 15-year veteran of the FBI who speaks Russian, said that the FBI ignored his so-called leads linking Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to Russian intelligence. He also said the Hunter Biden-Burisma story and the laptop from hell were a part of a disinformation campaign.

Buma was eventually prohibited from investigating anyone connected to President Trump.

Trump Issues Firm Directive to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

As Trump has swept into office with a flurry of executive orders and policy initiatives he has been met with a number of legal challenges to his actions and is currently contending with several setbacks.

The president has continued to lash out at judges and courts that rule against his administration and his actions, often saying questioning the judiciary's power to impede his desired policy moves.

One of the most high-profile cases involves the recent deportation of more than 200 Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador. The White House and Department of Justice have alleged that all the men have ties to the violent Tren de Aragua gang.

Another case involves Trump's effort to ban transgender people from serving in the military. A federal judge recently issued an 80-page preliminary injunction blocking the proposal after deeming it to be factually incorrect, discriminatory and demeaning.
