As time goes on, we're getting some better looks at what was really going on in the Biden White House, and it ain't pretty.

Turns out that while befuddled old Joe Biden was sitting in the Oval Office, using all of the mental energy at his command to keep his eyes from crossing, some (so far) anonymous staffer was using the old presidential auto-pen to sign, well, everything, in the president's name.

On Friday, an exclusive New York Post piece broke, giving us a better idea of just how much was going on,and how little then-President Biden seems to have known about it.

A key aide to former President Joe Biden may have exceeded their authority by liberally using an autopen to sign official documents, according to two former White House sources, as President Trump’s aides set up “far more restrictive” rules governing the use of the mechanical device.

A document obtained by The Post outlines the narrow set of circumstances in which Trump’s signature can be affixed to documents, following controversy this week kicked off by a Heritage Foundation analysis of Biden signatures on various records, including last-minute pardons.

A small group of officials under both Biden and Trump have been delegated the power to get documents “signed” robotically, but 82-year-old Biden’s perceived cognitive decline sparked debate about whether some aides may have assumed his wishes in his final stretch as commander-in-chief.

It seems to have done a lot more than just spark debate:

One Biden White House source told The Post they suspect that a key aide to the then-president may have made unilateral determinations on what to auto-sign. The Post is not publishing that staffer’s name due to the lack of concrete evidence and refutations by other colleagues.

The Biden aide, who did not respond to requests for comment, would frequently make mention of what “the boss” wanted, the source said, but compatriots would have “no idea” if it was true because the internal culture was to not ask questions.

There's a lot to unpack here, so let's go through it in steps.

First, we have an anonymous source talking about an anonymous "key aide," although the language implies that the key aide is known. The Post is (rightly) not naming them because everything is still fuzzy. That part isn't suspicious; that's good journalism. What they have at this point is little more than rumor.

But assuming the anonymous source is telling the truth, we have a "key aide" involved, who may well have signed any number of executive actions and orders in the president's name without him knowing about it. Oh, and did we mention pardons? He or she could have used the autopen to sign those.

If there is any "there" there, this is a scandal of epic proportions. We might have had a shadow president for how long? Months? Years? This person may well have been illegally signing documents using this tool without then-President Biden's knowledge. This would be a constitutional crisis of the first water, with the potential to negate scores, maybe hundreds, of Biden administration actions, including, possibly, legislation signed into law.

And here's the really crazy bit from the NY Post report, linked above:

The autopen, housed in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door to the White House, hasn’t been used only for weighty documents — such as pardons issued to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Dr. Anthony Fauci in the closing days of Biden’s term.

Clinton-appointed Judge Richard Young has ordered the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) to provide sex change surgery for a “transgender” inmate who murdered a baby.

The inmate, Jonathan Richardson, who now goes by “Autumn Cordellioné,” is in prison for the reckless homicide of a baby.

Richardson was convicted in 2001 for strangling his then-wife’s 11-month-old daughter to death.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the lawsuit against the Indiana Department of Corrections seeking a sex change on behalf of Richardson in 2023, three years after the baby-killer decided to begin identifying as a woman.

Currently, there is a law in Indiana banning taxpayer-funded sex change procedures for inmates.

According to a Fox News report, the ACLU argued that the law violates the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition of “cruel and unusual punishment.”

Judge Young sided with the ACLU on March 5 and ordered taxpayers to foot the bill for the murderer’s vanity surgery.

“The court ordered that the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Correction should be preliminarily enjoined to take all reasonable actions to secure Ms. Cordellioné gender-affirming surgery at the earliest opportunity,” Judge Young wrote. “Ms. Cordellioné seeks to extend the injunction for the second time. For the reasons that follow, her motion to renew or extend preliminary injunction… is granted.”

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said of the ruling, “Convicted murderers don’t get to demand that taxpayers foot the bill for expensive and controversial sex-change operations. Psychologist Kelsey Beers, who evaluated the killer, had concluded that Richardson was not a suitable candidate for the surgery as she does not believe he has legitimate “gender dysphoria.” Instead, she diagnosed him with antisocial personality disorder and borderline personality disorder. SC Rep. Nancy Mace Accused a Man of Sexual Abuse in House Floor Speech. Now, He Is Suing for Defamation.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is being sued by one of the men she publicly named in a speech on the House floor in February, accusing him of sexual abuse.

In that speech, she accused her ex-fiancé, Patrick Bryant, and three others of sex crimes including rape, sex trafficking, and the nonconsensual filming of sex acts with her and others. It is a case that could come down to what sort of conduct a sitting member of Congress is constitutionally protected from, in their position as a lawmaker.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit, Brian Musgrave, has completely denied all the allegations made against him by Mace. He has also stated that he was not present during any of the alleged events in question that Mace described. He goes on to say that he did not "film" or "incapacitate" anyone, and added that Mace “and her team destroyed the lives” of himself and his family. The suit does not specifically request any award for compensatory or punitive damages, which would be decided by a jury, but “sufficient to impress upon the Defendant the seriousness of her conduct and to deter such similar conduct in the future.”

While the suit focuses on Mace's behavior both on and off the House floor, a draft of Mace's speech also made the rounds of social media. But its main focus is whether the speech is protected by the debate clause in the Constitution, which gives legal protection for members of Congress in the capacity of their official acts as lawmakers. The clause includes “any speech or debate in either House.” The lawsuit contends that the Constitutional clause:

“does not transform the floor of Congress into a sanctuary for defamation, nor does it protect Congresswoman Mace’s extra-Congressional defamatory statements surrounding her speech."

In the speech that Mace herself described as "scorched earth," she not only accused Bryant, Musgrave, and the others of sexual abuse, she also stated that she was speaking out about the alleged events because South Carolina Attorney General Allan Wilson had declined to act on evidence that she provided in any of the cases. Wilson also denied any accusations of improper conduct, and said that Mace's accusations were "categorically false." He added that he had "no knowledge" of the alleged assaults until Mace's House floor speech.

However, after Mace's speech, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division did confirm that there was an active investigation into Mace's allegations against Bryant. Bryant has also denied all of Mace's allegations against him, and released a statement after her speech that read in part, "I categorically deny these allegations. I take this matter seriously and will cooperate fully with any necessary legal processes to clear my name."

Mace has become one of the most vocal advocates for keeping biological men out of women's sports, and protecting women's private spaces such as restrooms and locker rooms. She has recently introduced the Protecting Women's Private Spaces Act, the Stop the Invasion of Women's Spaces Act, and the Prison Rape Prevention Act, which bars transgender women from accessing women's restrooms, locker rooms, shelters, and prisons.

There could be a bit of politics being played as well. Both Mace and Wilson, along with South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, are potential 2026 gubernatorial candidates.

Russia has long identified Kiev’s aspirations to join the bloc as among the key causes of the conflict

NATO membership for Kiev is off the table in efforts undertaken by the US and Russia to achieve peace in the Ukraine conflict, the bloc’s Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed. Speaking on Bloomberg TV on Friday following his meeting with US President Donald Trump, Rutte said any security guarantees for Kiev should be discussed after a peace deal or a ceasefire are in place.

Ukraine has long demanded a seat within NATO as a security guarantee for ending the conflict with Russia. Moscow, however, has cited Kiev’s NATO ambitions as being among the root causes of the conflict in the first place, and has called for Ukraine’s neutrality as a foundation for any settlement.

Asked by Bloomberg host Annmarie Hordern whether Trump indicated any intention to provide Kiev with security guarantees in his quest to end the conflict, Rutte deflected, saying that they would be needed to “keep a peace deal,” meaning it is premature to discuss them with no deal in place. He replied in the affirmative when the journalist specifically asked whether Trump had already taken the question of Ukraine joining NATO off the table.

Rutte added that Trump wants the “peace to be lasting and durable,” indicating that some other offers will be made to Ukraine to persuade it to agree to a ceasefire. However, he ruled out official NATO involvement in the process.

“There are many ways to [provide security guarantees]… But for NATO to be as NATO involved would be difficult. NATO will maybe always advise,” he stated.

“Before you get into too much detail in terms of how to maintain the peace, you first need to have the deal and it is a step-by-step approach,” Rutte noted, adding that he is optimistic that a deal could be in place this year.

Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday as part of the ongoing efforts to negotiate a resolution to the Ukraine conflict. Witkoff arrived in Moscow to convey more detailed information about this week’s US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia, which ended with Kiev agreeing to a proposed 30-day ceasefire with Russia.

The exact details of the meeting between Putin and Witkoff have not been made public, but speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the Russian leader stated that he was ready to discuss Trump’s ceasefire proposal.

Former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has said he is ready for a long legal battle at the International Criminal Court (ICC) after his arrest on charges of crimes against humanity linked to his “war on drugs.”

Duterte was detained by the Philippines authorities at Manila’s international airport on Tuesday and was flown to The Hague the next day. The ICC arrest warrant alleges that from 2016 to 2022, the former president put together, funded, and armed “death squads” which carried out killings of suspected drug dealers and users.

While on the plane, Duterte recorded a two-minute video statement, asking his supporters not to worry and saying he is “okay.”

“This will be a long legal proceeding, but I say to you, I will continue to serve my country. And so be it, if that is my destiny,” he said in a video which was published on Facebook on Wednesday and has already been viewed more than 19 million times.

The former president previously denied any wrongdoing, but acknowledged that blood was spilled during his “war on drugs.” Shortly after taking office, he promising to rid the country of illegal narcotics by ordering the police to use lethal force against any drug suspects if they believed they were in danger.

According to official records, around 6,200 people were killed in police operations. Activists say the actual figure could be much higher.

“Whatever happened in the past, I will be the front of our law enforcement and the military. I said this already, that I will protect you, and I will be responsible for everything,” Duterte said regarding his war on drugs.

Some human rights advocates called the arrest of the former president illegal due to the fact that the Philippines formally withdrew from the ICC in 2019 on Duterte’s order. The Hague-based court insists that it retains jurisdiction over crimes that may have been committed while the country was a signatory to it.

Duterte’s son, Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte, currently the mayor of Davao City, said in a statement on Friday that his father’s arrest “sets a dangerous president.”

Rodrigo Duterte Appears Before the Hague as Filipinos Protest ‘Crimes Against Humanity’ Charges

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made his first appearance before the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague on Friday after being arrested this week on charges of crimes against humanity.

ICC prosecutor Karim Khan — a prolific targeter of former and current heads of state — is accusing Duterte of mass murder during a campaign to eradicate drug crime in the country while he was president. Duterte served as president from 2016 to 2022; Philippine presidents are only allowed to serve one term in office.

The Philippines was a longtime signatory to the Rome Statute, which gives the ICC jurisdiction over a country for the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. Duterte withdrew from the Rome Statute in 2018, but the ICC prosecutor’s office claims that the crimes for which it is prosecuting him occurred before the withdrawal.

Duterte spent much of his time in office threatening to kill a variety of people, though his usual targets were priests — he claimed to have been molested by a priest as a child and “cured” himself of homosexuality — and drug traffickers. In June 2016, Duterte announced a program to offer “a medal” to civilians who killed suspected drug dealers, encouraging vigilante justice. However, his main form of targeting drug suspects was the use of “death squads,” according to the ICC and extensive evidence compiled by human rights groups. Philippine police officials estimated that over 6,000 people were killed extrajudicially during the drug war under Duterte, who claimed that those who were killed resisted arrest.

“On the basis of its independent and impartial investigations, the Office of the Prosecutor alleges that Mr. Duterte, as founder and head of the Davao Death Squad, then Mayor of Davao City, and subsequently as the President of the Philippines,” the ICC detailed in its statement on Duterte’s arrest, “is criminally responsible for the crime against humanity of murder… committed in the Philippines between 1 November 2011 and 16 March 2019.”

“Mr. Duterte is alleged to have committed these crimes as part of a widespread and systematic attack directed against the civilian population,” the ICC claimed.

Throughout much of his tenure, Duterte referred to human rights criticism as “bullshit” propagated by “white people” and threatened to kill human rights investigators. He has also referred to the ICC specifically as “bullshit” and in 2016, he threatened to burn down the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Duterte, 79, was mostly silent during his hearing on Friday, which served to lay out the charges against him and offer his legal team a reading of his rights as a defendant.

“Sounding frail and wearing a blue suit and tie, he spoke briefly to confirm his name and date of birth,” the Filipino news outlet ABS-CBN detailed. They explained, “The presiding judge allowed him to follow proceedings in absentia due to his long flight to The Hague.”

ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan requested an arrest warrant for Duterte on February 10. He was arrested on Tuesday and flown to the Hague, the headquarters of the ICC, immediately thereafter. His supporters have questioned the timing of the arrest, claiming that Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. acted vindictively to have Duterte arrested after his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, announced in a dramatic, late-night livestream in December that she had hired hitmen to kill the president and his family in the event that Marcos assassinated her.

“I’ve given my order, ‘If I die, don’t stop until you’ve killed them,'” Sara Duterte claimed, referring to the president and his family, repeatedly insisting her plans to kill Marcos were “no joke.”

Duterte was impeached less than a week before the ICC prosecutor requested a warrant for her father. Sara Duterte, who is currently in the Hague supporting her father, declared his arrest and extradition a violation of Filipino sovereignty.

“Today, our own government has surrendered a Filipino citizen — even a former President at that — to foreign powers,” she wrote in a public statement on Tuesday. “This is a blatant affront to our sovereignty and an insult to every Filipino who believes in our nation’s independence.”

“This is not justice — this is oppression and persecution. This act shows the world that this government is willing to abandon its own citizen and betray the very essence of our sovereignty and national dignity. God save the Philippines,” she concluded.

The arrest has prompted widespread protests, in the Philippines and the Hague, in support of Rodrigo Duterte.
