It's National Nevada Day! In 2012, USS Nevada (SSBN 733) was boarded by a rogue team of elite seals that tried to take over the submarine. The crew of the Nevada managed to repel the seals (harmlessly) before the marine mammals did any damage. #NationalNevadaDay

In the 1940s, a sailor asked the pilot of a TBF Avenger preparing to leave Fort Worth if he could get a ride to the West Coast. The pilot did not have an extra set of headphones but agreed, joking that the sailor had better be prepared to jump if there was a problem. After arriving in San Diego, the pilot was stunned to discover that he was alone in the plane. He then remembered that he had accidentally opened the bomb bay doors for a few minutes while fumbling for a chart. Apparently the sailor thought the open doors were a signal for him to jump. He was found wandering near a town in Arizona two days later.

For its combat success & technical brilliance, Meteor was honoured with the task of escorting the frigate of Emperor Nicholas I.
