‘He was warned’ – Ukrainian mayor blames Sumy military administration for recent strike
The frontline region’s acting governor left Kiev’s troops open for attack, Konotop head Artyom Semenikhin has accused
Konotop Mayor Artyom Semenikhin has accused the head of the Sumy regional military administration,Vladimir Artyukh of being responsible for making a gathering of Ukrainian soldiers in the border city a target for a supposed Russian missile strike.
Sumy is a frontline city bordering the Russian Kursk Region, situated just a few miles away from the fighting. According to local authorities, a cruise missile strike on Sunday left over 20 people dead and more than 80 wounded.
Speaking in a Facebook stream on Sunday, Semenikhin, a member of the neo-Nazi party Svoboda and the head of a nearby town of Konotop accused Artyukh of being complicit in the deaths of Ukrainians in the attack.
“He organized an award ceremony for the soldiers of the 117th brigade in that building. He was warned that this should not be done,”Semenikhin said, adding that he’s risking a lot broaching the subject.
He claimed that none of the soldiers were injured and that the strike only hit civilianswho were near the award ceremony at the time.
”Thanks to our long-standing governor Artyukh, we now have victims,” Semenikhin said.
He added that local authorities have =begun criminal investigations into who organized the military ceremony==, as well as into the strike itself.
”I have no doubt that Mr. Artyukh… will receive an appropriate response from the law enforcement system, law enforcement agencies, and prosecution will begin against him,”Semenikhin said.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on reports that a gathering of soldiers was hit.
Earlier in the day, former member of Vladimir Zelensky’s political party,Ukrainian lawmaker Mariana Bezuglaya demanded that officers stop staging troop gatherings, warning that the practice makes service members targets for Russian strikes.
“Do not do roll calls. Do not stage award ceremonies,” she urged Kiev’s military.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the strike as of Sunday evening.
(The insinuation is that Kiev intentionally exposed their troops to attack by Russia! Why announce it, why make it public and easily targeted? Kiev wants more dead, for various reasons, but mostly money and arms sent to them.)

UK moves toward nationalizing last steel plant
Scunthorpe’s Chinese parent company has said the site is hemorrhaging money due to tariffs and rising energy costs
The British government has opened the door to nationalizing the last primary steelmaking plant in the UK in an emergency bid to keep its blast furnaces running.
According toBritish Steel’s owner, Chinese company Jingye, the Scunthorpe plant has been operating at a loss of some £700,000 ($916,000) a day, affected by President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on steel imports into the US, massive CO2 emission fees, and high UK energy prices. The factory’s parent company reportedlyturned down a £500 million offer from the British governmentto keep its blast furnace “virgin steel production” working.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer recalled lawmakers from Easter recess to pass an emergency bill that would allow the UK to step in and take control of any “steel undertaking” at risk of stoppage.Such a recall of parliament has not happened since the Falklands War in 1982.
“The Secretary of State may do anything for the purpose of securing the continued and safe use of the specified assets [of] the steel undertaking”in the event the assets “are at risk of ceasing to be used,” the bill passed on Saturday reads.
Starmer said the government had stepped in to protect UK steel manufacturing.
“All options are on the table to secure the future of the industry,” he said in a statement on X on Saturday.
Jingye retains ownership of the plant as of now, but nationalization is a “likely option,” according to State Secretary for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds.
The UK is currently looking for a company to buy and take over British Steel, according to the BBC.
In a statement to the British state broadcaster, Reynolds said that themarket value of the business was “effectively zero” and the UK taxpayer would have to shoulder the steel plant’s £700,000 a day losses.

Social Security Overseer Refused to Help Weed Migrants Out of the System, Then Security Showed Up

Despite official action to essentially wipe migrants out of the Social Security system, a new report said one bureaucrat refused to go along.
Greg Pearre, a manager who according to The Washington Post oversaw technology experts, was refusing to put names of migrants into what’s known as the “death master file,” which is usually used for Social Security recipients who have died.
As a result, on Thursday,security guards arrived at Pearre’s office at Social Security Administration headquarters in Woodlawn, Maryland, and escorted him out.
As with all Trump administration innovations, blocking access to migrants’ Social Security numbers has its critics.
“This is an unprecedented step,” Devin O’Connor, asenior fellow at the progressive Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, said in response.
“The administration seems to basically be saying they have the right to essentially declare people equivalent to dead who have not died. That’s a hard concept to believe, but it brings enormous risks and consequences,” he said.
But White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said removing illegal immigrants needs to be done.
She said putting migrants in programs that have been terminated into the death file so their Social Security numbers will be rejected shows that “the Trump Administration is protecting lawful American citizensand their hard-earned Social Security benefits, and ensuring illegal immigrants will no longer receive such economic entitlements.”
“Anyone who disagrees with the common sense policies of this Administration can find a new job,” she said.
According to The New York Times, immigrants who entered through Biden administration initiatives since ended by the Trump administration are the subjects of the effort.
The new approach targets about 1.4 million people who participated in two programs— the so-called CNVH program that opened the door for 500,000 migrants from Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Haiti, and the CBP One app that gave 900,000 migrants work permits so they could enter the U.S. and remain.
The Trump administration has ended those programs and urged participants to self-deport.
The first migrants to be put in the death master file included about 6,100 people who were in those programs, the Post and Times each reported. Thursday, another 102 names were added, the Post reported.
Leland Dudek, the Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner, sent staff members an email saying the “financial lives” of the migrants on the list would be “terminated,” the Times reported.
In a memo to Dudek on Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the plan would “prevent suspected terrorists who are here illegally” from having “privileges reserved for those with lawful status.”
A White House official told the Post that of those migrants,almost 1,000 are collecting Medicaid benefits, 41 are on unemployment, and 22 have received student loans.
“They have no right to be in the country,” the official said.
Elizabeth Huston, a White House representative, told the Times that using Social Security data will help achieve President Donald Trump’s immigration goals.
“President Trump promised mass deportations, and by removing the monetary incentive for illegal aliens to come and stay, we will encourage them to self-deport,” she said in a statement. “He is delivering on his promise he made to the American people.”
