I’m not sure this is true. It’s not coming from Honda itself and Honda says they’re not planning to reduce Canadian production.
70% of Honda cars sold in the US are already produced in the US.

Recent reports indicate Honda is considering adjusting its manufacturing footprint in North America, possibly influenced by new US tariffs.
Rumored Production Shifts:
From Canada and Mexico to the US: Honda is reportedly considering moving some production from Canada and Mexico to the US, with the aim of manufacturing 90% of its US-sold vehicles domestically.
Specific Models: The potential shifts could involve moving production of the CR-V SUV from Canada and the HR-V SUV from Mexico to the United States.
Civic Production in Indiana: There are reports that Honda is moving production of the next-generation Civic from Mexico to Indiana to avoid US tariffs, starting in May 2028, and potentially producing around 210,000 vehicles annually.
Rationale for Potential Changes:
US Tariffs: The potential relocation is largely attributed to new US tariffs on imported vehicles, specifically impacting imports from Canada and Mexico.
Localizing Production: By increasing US production, Honda could potentially avoid or mitigate the impact of the tariffs on its vehicles sold in the US.
Honda's Response:
No Current Plans to Move from Canada: Honda Canada has stated that their Canadian facility will operate at full capacity for the foreseeable future and that they are not currently considering changes to their operations in Canada.
Expansion in Canada Continues: Honda Canada is proceeding with a substantial expansion of its operations in Alliston, Ontario, including new facilities for electric vehicle and battery production.
No Changes in Mexico, According to Mexico: The Mexican government has said that Honda has informed them that they have no plans to alter their production in Mexico.
Important Considerations:
Tariff Impact: President Trump's implementation of 25% tariffs on cars made in Canada and Mexico, and a possible additional 10% tariff on China, are a significant factor in these potential production changes.
Retaliatory Tariffs: Honda is also considering the possibility of retaliatory tariffs on US-made vehicles exported to Canada.
Market Share: The US is a crucial market for Honda, accounting for nearly 40% of its global sales in 2024, making localization of production a strategic consideration.
