However, with the worldwide arson campaign of the Chinese Communist Party, the U.S. Military is finding itself outpaced significantly by China in many important metrics such as shipbuilding, nuclear forces, cyber, and others. The U.S. Navy is firing missiles at a rapid rate to keep open the Red Sea, but their ships are rusting and behind on maintenance.

Congress is now working on a $150 billion immediate supplemental for the DOD which will bring it to over $1 trillion in spending, another first. The threat of the Chinese led alliance of Russia, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and South Africa is real and being projected right to the beaches of America with Chinese fighting age males making boat runs into Florida from their forward staging bases in the Bahamas and Chinese and Russian Bombers conducting regular patrols on the West Coast of the U.S. The increase in defense spending is badly needed – but there needs to be Inspector General and Congressional vigilance to ensure the large budget increases are used judiciously to build capability and lethality not slothful bureaucracy. Mexico’s delinquent water deliveries, in violation of an 81-year-old treaty with the United States, have exposed years of “blind eye” policies, rapid population growth, and hydrological changes, according to an expert at the U.S. Army War College.

Evan Ellis, research professor of Latin American studies at the college’s Strategic Studies Institute, told The Epoch Times that recent tensions over Mexico’s delinquent water deliveries have come from “years of looking the other way” on the part of the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump has requested that the United States’ southern neighbor honor its obligation to deliver 1.3 million acre-feet of water to Texas. The amount totals almost 70 percent of a five-year water commitment that’s due in October.

“Just last month, I halted water shipments to Tijuana until Mexico complies with the 1944 Water Treaty,” Trump wrote in an April 10 post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Under the reciprocal agreement, Mexico is expected to send the United States 1.75 million acre-feet of water over a five-year cycle. That’s an average of 350,000 acre-feet of water each year. The water deliveries primarily come from six tributaries of the Rio Grande, and are stored in the Amistad and Falcon international reservoirs along the river.

One acre-foot of water—one acre of water at a depth of one foot—is roughly enough to fill half of an Olympic-size swimming pool. Mexico’s average annual obligation is enough water to supply 700,000 to 1 million Texas households for a year.

In exchange, the United States agreed to provide Mexico with 1.5 million acre-feet of water from the Colorado River each year—differing from Mexico’s five-year cycle.

Smith’s comments came after Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet on Wednesday reiterated his opposition to oil and gas, despite the fact that energy is Canada’s leading export.

“There's no future for oil and gas, at least in Quebec and probably everywhere. And this has to be said and protected,” Blanchet said in his own comments directed at the incoming PM.

The Muslim Association of Canada is set to host its annual Turning the Tides convention at the International Centre in Mississauga from May 17 to 19.

Included on its roster of speakers are a number of people who have openly espoused anti-Israel if not pro-Hamas views.

Among them is Ebrahim Rasool, who was recently ousted from his position as South African ambassador to the United States and kicked out of the country after suggesting President Donald Trump was "mobilizing a supremacism" and trying to "project white victimhood as a dog whistle."

Rasool, who Secretary of State Marco Rubio referred to as a "race-baiting politician," has a long history of controversial views. “In the wake of the October 7 terrorist attacks, Canadian public broadcasters engaged in editorial conduct that misrepresented facts, laundered disinformation from Hamas-controlled sources and contributed to the normalization of antisemitic narratives,” the petition stated.

The group argued that these issues were not accidental but the result of deeper structural biases, and called for legislative changes. They proposed penalties including public reporting requirements and the potential suspension of public funding for non-compliance.

The CBC remains the only broadcaster in the country permitted to handle complaints internally, through an ombudsman employed by the network.

All other Canadian broadcasters must answer to the Canada Broadcast Standards Council, an external industry panel that can mandate public retractions and enforces the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Code of Ethics.

In a decision with far-reaching implications for regional autonomy, the Supreme Court of Canada has declined to hear Ontario’s appeal in a youth-led constitutional challenge to its climate policy — effectively opening the door for courts to scrutinize provincial climate targets under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The case, Mathur et al. v. Ontario, now returns to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, where the province will have to defend its decision to roll back emissions targets that youth plaintiffs argue violate their constitutional rights to “life, security of the person, and equality.”

The case marks the first time a Canadian court has found that government climate policy could be subject to constitutional limits.

For Western governments like Alberta and Saskatchewan — already in long-standing disputes with Ottawa over energy and environmental jurisdiction — the Supreme Court’s refusal to intervene is a troubling signal. Continue…
