Soldiers and staff have been told what to do if they encounter the infamously aggressive birds, which have overrun the defense HQ in Ottawa

The Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) has released a warning to its staff at its Carling Avenue headquarters in Ottawa amid an ongoing takeover of the area by Canada geese. The birds are known for their aggressive behavior toward any perceived threat during nesting season, which is in full swing at the moment.

In an article on Monday, the Ottawa Citizen cited an e-mail alert sent out by DND spokesperson Nick Drescher Brown, advising both military and civilian staff against attempting to feed or touch the geese, as it could be taken as a provocation by the winged intruders. According to the newspaper, personnel at the Carling Avenue headquarters have been told to “remain calm and not panic” should they encounter a bird displaying aggressive behavior.

“Try to move away slowly and quietly without turning your back to the goose. Maintain eye contact while you back away,” the instructions reportedly say.

“If the goose charges or hisses, raise your arms to appear larger and back away slowly,” the directive further advises.

Brown acknowledged that DND has no idea how many Canada geese are occupying its property situated in the midst of Ottawa’s Greenbelt. Continue…

A three-month investigation by Calgary police has led to the seizure of more than $150,000 worth of fentanyl and five firearms, officials announced Monday.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) District 4 General Investigations Unit launched the investigation in January 2025 after receiving a tip from the York Regional Police Service about a Calgary-based drug trafficker.

Over the following months, officers identified a suspect and observed activity consistent with drug trafficking.

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with assistance from the Tactical Unit, investigators conducted a traffic stop in Crescent Heights, where one man was arrested without incident. A search of the vehicle uncovered 22 grams of fentanyl, 18 grams of crack cocaine, and two cell phones.

Subsequent searches of two residences led to more significant discoveries. At an apartment in the 100 block of Second Ave. S.W. in Calgary, officers seized a taser.

A second search in Cochrane, in the 100 block of First Ave. E., uncovered 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 11 grams of unknown pills, 161 grams of unknown white powder, and a cache of firearms and ammunition.

Items seized included a loaded handgun with a 3D-printed receiver reported lost in Ontario, a T81SA 7.62mm semi-automatic rifle, two SKS rifles, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, approximately 1,170 rounds of ammunition, and two prohibited firearm magazines. Continue…

In a Federal Court application challenging their disqualification, Green Party lawyers acknowledged that “a small number of candidates, no more than 15, decided to withdraw their candidacy to avoid splitting the progressive vote.”

Blacklock's Reporter says the withdrawals, they said, severely reduced the number of Green candidates and harmed the party’s ability to meet debate participation rules.

The Leaders’ Debates Commission barred the Greens from the televised debates scheduled for April 16 and 17 after the party failed to meet the requirement of fielding a minimum of 308 candidates.

Although the Greens initially claimed 340 nominations, only 232 candidates were officially registered by the April 7 deadline at Elections Canada.

Party lawyers, from Power Law Ltd. of Ottawa, argued that the Commission’s decision was “unreasonable,” especially the suggestion that the Greens had deliberately and dishonestly withdrawn candidates.

Henk Van Essen, a 61-year-old egg farmer near Lethbridge, says he faces a court-ordered cull of 1,000 laying hens after his arrest on Wednesday for allegedly selling eggs outside the quota system regulated by the Egg Farmers of Alberta (EFA).

In an interview with the Western Standard on Monday, Van Essen said EFA officials, accompanied by RCMP, are expected to raid his farm to assess and cull some of his flock.

He confirmed five RCMP vehicles were involved in his arrest last week for civil contempt of court. Released with conditions, Van Essen has posted warning signs on his driveway to deter trespassers.

“I have no charges at the moment,” Van Essen said by phone, noting his farm meets Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) standards.

“But the judge ordered the Egg Farmers (of Alberta) to come today to my property, to count the chickens, and dispose of any over 300. They won’t tell me what time they’re coming.”

Diagnostic imaging was shut for 22 days, emergency rooms were dark for 13, and other medical services were suspended for eight.

The City of Calgary audit committee was told in its most recent meeting the city posted a $276 million budget surplus in 2024, despite unexpected financial challenges last year, exacerbated by the Bearspaw South feeder main break. The surplus was $40 million higher than 2023.

A report to the committee said the surplus came mostly from "higher franchise fees (also called local access fees) revenue due to higher energy prices, increased investment income and expenditure savings across several tax-supported services."

The local access fee works in lieu of a property tax to run power equipment throughout the city.

However, the report added revenues from local access fees is dropping, with the city getting close to $182 million from the fees last year, compared to $308 million in 2023.

Part of the decline can be attributed to no longer being tied to the province's regulated rate option (the rate of last resort) and moving to a consumption-based model this year, charging customers based on how much power they use.

The report warns a further decrease in revenue from that fee is in the offing this year, after the change in how it is calculated in response to affordability concerns amid rising utility costs. Continue…

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Vancouver Police Department Sgt. Steve Addison confirmed that Lo had "contact" with police on April 25, one day before the attack. He noted, however, that the interaction "was not criminal in nature," and "did not rise to the level where mental health intervention was required."

According to the Vancouver Sun, Lo was said to be suffering from paranoia and delusions.

Addison also provided more information about the victims. He said nine of the dead were women, and two were men, and all but one lived in Metro Vancouver. Of the dozens still in hospital, seven are in critical condition and three are in serious condition.

The range of the EV truck is abysmal, at 150 miles - or 240 miles with a longer-range battery pack - the vehicle in our minds is not a serious truck - instead, similar to mini trucks Americans are importing from Japan to run around town.

Any serious work, whether towing or hauling actual weight, in the EV space will be done by the Tesla Cybertruck or the Rivian truck, or a diesel-powered truck by Dodge, Ford, or Chevy for long-haul towing.

Again, the Slate Auto vehicle isn't a serious pickup truck, but it does look like fun to run around town.

“In our trial, the longest mischief trial of all time, we set hearing dates to set hearing dates,” quipped Lich, drawing attention to the fact that the initial sentencing date of April 16 has passed and there is still not a rescheduled date.

Earlier this month, both Lich and Barber were found guilty of mischief for their roles as leaders of the 2022 protest and as social media influencers, despite the non-violent nature of the demonstration.

Barber noted earlier this month that the Crown is seeking a two-year jail sentence against him and is also looking to seize the truck he used in the protest. As a result, his legal team asked for a stay of proceedings.

Rarely does an Indian media outlet refer to Singh without identifying him as “pro-Khalistan.” The Khalistani movement desires an independent state for the Sikh minority in the Indian state of Punjab. The movement became militant, and occasionally violent, in the 1980s.

India long ago banned the Khalistan movement and has classified a number of affiliated groups as terrorist organizations. Many Sikhs have migrated to Canada, however, and they brought the Khalistani ideology with them. Truckers are celebrating President Donald Trump’s decision to restore enforcement of a rule that excludes foreign truckers from the roads if they cannot read English-language signs and instructions.

“They’re celebrating … Everybody’s excited, they’re happy,” said Shannon Everett, a cofounder of American Truckers United. who explained the truckers’ problems to Breitbart News in March.

The change is set by an executive order to be signed by Trump on Monday. The order tells Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy “to ensure drivers violating English proficiency rules are placed out-of-service, enhancing roadway safety,” and directs him to revamp other aspects of the trucking industry.

In 2016, President Barack Obama’s deputies told highway inspectors to stop pulling licenses from drivers who cannot speak English. Petgrave, of Canada, was arrested two weeks after the incident, according to the BBC. Police never publicly confirmed his name though Petgrave identified himself as the subject of investigation through a legal defense fundraiser. He has rebuilt multiple times while the case was under review.

“We were going to introduce it (legislation) regardless of what the outcome of the election was,” she said.

A petition must collect signatures from approximately 600,000 eligible voters (about 20% of Alberta’s eligible voters, based on the 2019 election turnout) within a 90-day period.

The current appropriation for the Fiscal Year 2025 Department of Defense budget is capped at $892.5 billion, the largest ever. However, with the worldwide arson campaign of the Chinese Communist Party, the U.S. Military is finding itself outpaced significantly by China in many important metrics such as shipbuilding, nuclear forces, cyber, and others. The U.S. Navy is firing missiles at a rapid rate to keep open the Red Sea, but their ships are rusting and behind on maintenance.

Congress is now working on a $150 billion immediate supplemental for the DOD which will bring it to over $1 trillion in spending, another first. The threat of the Chinese led alliance of Russia, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and South Africa is real and being projected right to the beaches of America with Chinese fighting age males making boat runs into Florida from their forward staging bases in the Bahamas and Chinese and Russian Bombers conducting regular patrols on the West Coast of the U.S. The increase in defense spending is badly needed – but there needs to be Inspector General and Congressional vigilance to ensure the large budget increases are used judiciously to build capability and lethality not slothful bureaucracy. An American Airlines flight from São Paulo, Brazil to New York descended into sheer chaos on April 24th when an elderly female passenger attempted to force her way into the cockpit, allegedly to confront the pilots about a delay.

The scene turned violent, profane, and flat-out dangerous — and was all caught on camera.

According to AEROIN, a Brazilian aviation magazine, the woman stormed toward the front of Flight AA950 just as one of the pilots returned from the restroom.

The woman was forcefully restrained by a male flight attendant who slammed her to the ground after perceiving the act as an attempt to gain access to the cabin.

As she thrashed and screamed, she threatened to kick the flight attendants “in the balls” and launched into a tirade filled with foul-mouthed insults.

Mexico’s delinquent water deliveries, in violation of an 81-year-old treaty with the United States, have exposed years of “blind eye” policies, rapid population growth, and hydrological changes, according to an expert at the U.S. Army War College.

Evan Ellis, research professor of Latin American studies at the college’s Strategic Studies Institute, told The Epoch Times that recent tensions over Mexico’s delinquent water deliveries have come from “years of looking the other way” on the part of the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump has requested that the United States’ southern neighbor honor its obligation to deliver 1.3 million acre-feet of water to Texas. The amount totals almost 70 percent of a five-year water commitment that’s due in October.

“Just last month, I halted water shipments to Tijuana until Mexico complies with the 1944 Water Treaty,” Trump wrote in an April 10 post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Under the reciprocal agreement, Mexico is expected to send the United States 1.75 million acre-feet of water over a five-year cycle. That’s an average of 350,000 acre-feet of water each year. The water deliveries primarily come from six tributaries of the Rio Grande, and are stored in the Amistad and Falcon international reservoirs along the river.

One acre-foot of water—one acre of water at a depth of one foot—is roughly enough to fill half of an Olympic-size swimming pool. Mexico’s average annual obligation is enough water to supply 700,000 to 1 million Texas households for a year.

In exchange, the United States agreed to provide Mexico with 1.5 million acre-feet of water from the Colorado River each year—differing from Mexico’s five-year cycle.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared a national emergency over the situation

Israeli firefighters continue to battle wildfires that have been raging near Jerusalem for two days. Emergency services have described them as some of the “largest ever” in the country’s history.

The fires broke out on Wednesday along the main highway connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, spreading quickly due to the heat and strong winds.

The key highway and several other roads in the area were shut down, with people in at least ten communities forced to evacuate from what witnesses described as “walls of flame.”

More than 160 firefighting teams and 12 aircraft were deployed to contain the wildfires.

That was Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s message to Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday, warning him that he was elected on a mandate to make Canada an “economic superpower, and that means also an energy superpower.”

“And that is what I would fully expect Mark Carney to do,” she said in response to a reporter’s question. “I hope that he’s able to continue forward with an agenda that perhaps even the Conservative opposition would support him in.”

Smith’s comments came after Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet on Wednesday reiterated his opposition to oil and gas, despite the fact that energy is Canada’s leading export.

“There's no future for oil and gas, at least in Quebec and probably everywhere. And this has to be said and protected,” Blanchet said in his own comments directed at the incoming PM.

Blanchet threatened Carney with unspecified “weapons” and reminded him that he was elected thanks due to a wave of support in La Belle that saw the Liberals capture 44 seats in the province, up from 35 in 2021.

In letters dated Wednesday, the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation wrote both Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, urging them to “get the province of Alberta in line.”

Chiefs Sheldon Sunshine of Sturgeon Lake and Billy-Joe Tuccaro of neighbouring Mikisew Cree First Nation said Canada is built on sacred treaties that predate Alberta by decades and “are to last forever.”

Their correspondence to Carney asks the new Liberal government to stop what the chiefs call an increase in treaty violations.

The Muslim Association of Canada is set to host its annual Turning the Tides convention at the International Centre in Mississauga from May 17 to 19.

Included on its roster of speakers are a number of people who have openly espoused anti-Israel if not pro-Hamas views.

Among them is Ebrahim Rasool, who was recently ousted from his position as South African ambassador to the United States and kicked out of the country after suggesting President Donald Trump was "mobilizing a supremacism" and trying to "project white victimhood as a dog whistle."

Rasool, who Secretary of State Marco Rubio referred to as a "race-baiting politician," has a long history of controversial views. In 2004, for example, during a rally in Cape Town protesting Israel's killing of Ahmed Yassin, Rasool praised the Hamas founder as "one of the greatest inspirations to Muslims."

According to South African-American political commentator Joel Pollak, while Rasool did not say anything "explicitly antisemitic" that day, a number of the people he shared the stage with spewed overt hatred of Jews.

One Muslim cleric cited the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and claimed Jews were trying to "corrupt the gentiles," while another called Israel a "filthy Jewish nation" with "filthy people." Continue…

Calls are mounting for the federal government to impose external oversight on CBC News, following renewed accusations that the public broadcaster has failed to uphold editorial standards in its coverage of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

B’nai Brith Canada, in a petition submitted to the Prime Minister, urged the government to create an independent body empowered to investigate, audit, and enforce editorial standards at the CBC.

Blacklock's Reporter says the organization claimed that CBC News promoted falsehoods and normalized anti-Semitic narratives after the October 7 Hamas attacks in Israel.

“In the wake of the October 7 terrorist attacks, Canadian public broadcasters engaged in editorial conduct that misrepresented facts, laundered disinformation from Hamas-controlled sources and contributed to the normalization of antisemitic narratives,” the petition stated.

The group argued that these issues were not accidental but the result of deeper structural biases, and called for legislative changes. They proposed penalties including public reporting requirements and the potential suspension of public funding for non-compliance.

The CBC remains the only broadcaster in the country permitted to handle complaints internally, through an ombudsman employed by the network.

All other Canadian broadcasters must answer to the Canada Broadcast Standards Council, an external industry panel that can mandate public retractions and enforces the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Code of Ethics.
