Starting in 2027, the European Union will expand its emissions trading system (ETS) into new territory with the launch of ETS2. While the original ETS primarily targeted heavy industry and power plants, ETS2 directly impacts ordinary citizens — their homes, their cars, their daily lives.

Under the guise of 'saving the climate,' the EU will steadily make gasoline, diesel, and gas for heating more expensive. But let's be honest: ETS2 has very little to do with protecting the environment. It is about economic control, wealth redistribution, and the consolidation of power among banks, large corporations, governments, and the European Commission.

Formally, everything remains 'voluntary.' You may continue driving a gas car. You may continue heating your home with natural gas. But every choice that deviates from the state's 'sustainability goals' will become economically unbearable.

This is not a direct expropriation of property, but it is economic subjugation through price pressure, regulation, and redistribution of the proceeds. Instead of free choices, citizens and companies are financially forced to adopt government-approved behavior.

First Driverless Heavy Duty Trucking Service Launched On US Public Roads

Pennsylvania-based Aurora Innovation, Inc. has launched commercial self-driving trucking service in the state of Texas, conducting customer deliveries between Dallas and Houston starting this week, the company said in a May 1 statement.

The driverless trucking service will use Aurora’s flagship product “Aurora Driver,” a self-driving system that can “see over 450 meters ahead,” according to the company. Aurora says the truck is capable of spotting and reacting to pedestrians “up to 11 seconds sooner than human drivers at highway speeds at night.”

“To date, the Aurora Driver has completed over 1,200 miles without a driver,” said the statement. “The milestone makes Aurora the first company to operate a commercial self-driving service with heavy-duty trucks on public roads.”

“Aurora plans to expand its driverless service to El Paso, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona, by the end of 2025.”

Aurora’s launch customers are logistics companies Uber Freight and Hirschbach Motor Lines, both of which have had “long-standing supervised commercial pilots with Aurora.”

Aurora Driver is reportedly an SAE L4 self-driving system that is being deployed for long-haul trucking for the first time.

SAE L4 refers to Level 4 of the nonprofit SAE International’s measure of driving automation that runs from Level 0 to 5.

“There’s a mistaken perception that the oil sands region is one big strip mine, and that’s simply not the case,” said David Roberts, director of the ABMI’s science centre told the Canadian Energy Centre. “The energy footprint is tiny in the total area once you zoom out to the boreal forest surrounding this development.”

The ABMI is an independent scientific agency responsible for monitoring environmental health in Alberta’s oil sands using a rigorous, data-driven approach rooted in globally accepted scientific standards.

Its newly released Status of Land Cover and Biodiversity in the Oil Sands Region report is one of the most detailed assessments to date of how land use is affecting biodiversity in the area.

The findings stand in sharp contrast to previous claims from environmental groups such as Greenpeace, which once stated that oil sands operations had disturbed an area the size of the United Kingdom or the state of Florida.

After winning an election campaign in which he repeatedly said the traditional relationship with the United States is “over,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will be at the White House this week to meet President Donald Trump.

Trump has been complimentary of Carney both before and after his election win on April 28, calling him “very nice,” but Carney has said the discussions in the U.S. capital could be thorny.

“I go there with the expectation of constructive, difficult, but constructive discussions,” Carney said on May 2 during a press conference in Ottawa.

Carney was responding to questions from reporters on how he would avoid a similar situation to that of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his meeting with Trump in February. Zelenskyy had clashed with Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance in front of the cameras in the Oval Office during talks on the Russia-Ukraine war, leading to a temporary breakdown in relations.

The tensions are not as high with Canada, but Carney could find himself facing Trump in the Oval Office while taking questions from reporters about Canadian sovereignty. Continue…

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said she has had her first meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney amid tensions between Western provinces and Ottawa following the recent election that gave the Liberals a fourth term in office.

Smith announced on May 2 that the meeting was “positive.”

“We spoke at length about the policies and legislation that are holding back Alberta’s economy, and specific proposals for projects and legislative reforms that will significantly increase market access for Alberta oil and gas, agricultural products and other goods,” she said in a post on the X platform.

“The Prime Minister made it clear he intended to rapidly advance these kinds of nation building projects in the coming weeks and months.”

Smith and Carney clashed during the election campaign, with the premier saying she will defend her province’s resource development against what she said is overreach by Ottawa with its clean energy policies and restrictions on pipelines. Carney has said his government will focus on internal projects, but told French media it may or may not include pipelines.

Lion Electric will very likely be liquidated following the Quebec government’s refusal to invest more public funds in the company, says the court-appointed monitor for the electric-vehicle maker.

Jean-François Nadon, a restructuring specialist with Deloitte, said in a Superior Court hearing on Monday that government aid would have been a condition of any sale of the struggling company.

With that possibility off the table, he said, it’s unlikely any buyer will step forward with a plan to relaunch the St-Jérôme, Que.-based manufacturer, which sought protection from its creditors in December.

“The likelihood of a liquidation of assets is very high,” he said.

Nadon said the government’s recent announcement that it would not inject any more public money into Lion Electric was a “shock wave” for the company.

News reports last week said a group of buyers was seeking $24 million from the province to relaunch the electric-vehicle maker. Nadon said there was “no indication” before the government’s decision that the buyers would be unable to secure that funding. Continue…

The premiers of Canada’s three territories say the country’s push to remove internal trade barriers needs to consider the unique economic situation of the North.

Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai, Northwest Territories Premier R.J. Simpson and Nunavut Premier P.J. Akeeagok say they will be exploring the creation of a “territorial trade zone” that would make sure modern treaties with indigenous people and the needs of the territories are recognized as trade barriers come down.

The premiers met this weekend in Yukon for their annual Northern Premiers’ Forum.

Pillai told reporters at a joint press conference Sunday that the territories are willing, where possible, to remove trade barriers but any conversations have to consider agreements that are in place with northern indigenous governments.

Newly-elected Prime Minister Mark Carney has promised a plan to eliminate trade barriers between provinces and territories by Canada Day.

A petition has been launched calling for an “independent” investigation into alleged “irregularities” in Canada’s 2025 federal election, which saw the Liberal Party form a minority government under Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The petition, listed on Change.org, is titled, “Call for an Independent Inquiry Into Federal Election Irregularities.” As of press time, the petition, started by “KL,” is closing in on 10,600 verified signatures.

The petition says. that “concerned citizens of Canada” “believe that recent irregularities and credible allegations of misconduct during the 2025 Federal Election undermine the integrity of our democratic process.”

“We believe Canadians deserve to have full trust in their electoral system. Democracy must be protected, and every vote must count—free from manipulation, coercion, or fraud,” the petition notes.

It calls upon the House of Commons to “Immediately launch an independent public inquiry into the administration of the election” to investigate, all “reports of voter suppression, misinformation, fraud, and other violations of the Canada Elections Act.”

The petition also calls for elections to mandate “third-party audits of election results in any ridings where irregularities or unethical conduct are alleged.” Continue…
