Any serious work, whether towing or hauling actual weight, in the EV space will be done by the Tesla Cybertruck or the Rivian truck, or a diesel-powered truck by Dodge, Ford, or Chevy for long-haul towing.

Again, the Slate Auto vehicle isn't a serious pickup truck, but it does look like fun to run around town.

Rarely does an Indian media outlet refer to Singh without identifying him as “pro-Khalistan.” The Khalistani movement desires an independent state for the Sikh minority in the Indian state of Punjab. The movement became militant, and occasionally violent, in the 1980s.

India long ago banned the Khalistan movement and has classified a number of affiliated groups as terrorist organizations. Many Sikhs have migrated to Canada, however, and they brought the Khalistani ideology with them. Truckers are celebrating President Donald Trump’s decision to restore enforcement of a rule that excludes foreign truckers from the roads if they cannot read English-language signs and instructions.

“They’re celebrating … Everybody’s excited, they’re happy,” said Shannon Everett, a cofounder of American Truckers United. who explained the truckers’ problems to Breitbart News in March.

The change is set by an executive order to be signed by Trump on Monday. The order tells Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy “to ensure drivers violating English proficiency rules are placed out-of-service, enhancing roadway safety,” and directs him to revamp other aspects of the trucking industry.

In 2016, President Barack Obama’s deputies told highway inspectors to stop pulling licenses from drivers who cannot speak English. That issue ballooned under President Joe Biden when many thousands of illegal migrants, legalized migrants, and B-1 visa visitors got commercial driver’s licenses via lax rules in California and other states.

“A prominent trucking insurance executive told me that he estimates more than 40% of the truck drivers in the US are first-generation immigrants,” said a tweet from industry executive Craig Fuller. “10% of the total truck driver population does not speak English proficiently. Continue…

The Ukrainian Air Force has lost a Su-27 aircraft under unclear circumstances

Kiev’s air force reported on Monday that it had lost a Su-27 fighter jet in a Russian drone strike.

The incident occurred earlier in the day when the fighter was performing a “complex combat mission” to provide air support to ground troops and repel “strike UAVs,” the air force said in a statement. It did not elaborate on the type of drones involved in the attack or specify where the aircraft was destroyed, stating only that its pilot managed to eject but ended up hospitalized.

Russian media reports suggest that the Ukrainian aircraft was destroyed while chasing Geran-2 kamikaze drones, the long-range delta-wing UAVs Moscow uses in installation strikes deep beyond the front line. No charges for hockey player who killed opponent with skate blade in gruesome 2023 on-ice incident

British prosecutors will not file criminal charges against the hockey player involved in the fatal accident that saw American athlete Adam Johnson dead.

Johnson, 29, played for the Nottingham Panthers and was killed after a collision during a game against the Sheffield Steelers in late 2023. The other player, Matt Petgrave, struck Johnson in a way that saw Johnson’s neck cut by his skate.

Petgrave, of Canada, was arrested two weeks after the incident, according to the BBC. Police never publicly confirmed his name though Petgrave identified himself as the subject of investigation through a legal defense fundraiser. He has rebuilt multiple times while the case was under review.

The Conservatives made significant gains in Ontario in Monday’s election, despite Tory leader Pierre Poilievre’s crushing blow in Carleton, where he lost his seat after nearly 21 years.

The Conservatives gained a total of 24 seats, increasing their total from 120 to 144 in the House of Commons, while the Liberals gained 13 seats but lost seven cabinet ministers and parliamentary secretaries.

The Liberals increased their seats from 152 to 168, resulting in a minority government. They would need 172 for a majority.

The Bloc Québécois lost 12 seats and now has 23, the NDP lost 18 seats, including leader Jagmeet Singh’s Burnaby Central, and now has only seven.

Green Party leader Elizabeth May secured her seat in Saanich—Gulf Islands, but is now the only Green MP in Parliament. The PPC did not secure any seats. Continue…

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has reversed its decision to block a controversial roadside billboard critical of COVID-19 mandates, admitting it does not promote hatred as previously claimed.

The billboard, created by retired HVAC technician and former business owner George Katerberg, was erected along Hwy. 17 near Thessalon, Ontario, in March 2024.

It displayed images of several prominent political and health officials — including former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Dr. Anthony Fauci — alongside the message, “They knowingly lied about safety and stopping [transmission],” and “Canadians demand accountability.”

Originally, the design included two hammers behind a Canadian flag, a nod to the 1979 Pink Floyd album The Wall, which Katerberg said symbolized resistance to government overreach.

The Alberta government has introduced Bill 54, the Election Statutes Amendment Act on Tuesday, aiming to enhance the integrity and accessibility of provincial elections while emphasizing referendums several times in its announcement, signalling pushback against the federal Liberal government led by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The proposed legislation, tabled by Premier Danielle Smith’s United Conservative Party government, seeks to protect democratic processes, ensure fair and transparent elections, and boost public confidence in voting outcomes, according to a government news release.

The Western Standard asked Smith about the timing of the announcement — the day after a federal election — and whether she is considering a (sovereignty) referendum.

“We were going to introduce it (legislation) regardless of what the outcome of the election was,” she said.

To hold an independence referendum in Alberta, currently, the process can be initiated through two primary mechanisms under existing legislation, the Referendum Act and the Citizen Initiative Act.

A petition must collect signatures from approximately 600,000 eligible voters (about 20% of Alberta’s eligible voters, based on the 2019 election turnout) within a 90-day period.

Newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with US President Donald Trump the afternoon after Monday’s vote.

The call comes after an endorsement from the president, who during the election campaign said “it would be easier to deal with a Liberal” than Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who lost both the election and his seat in Carleton on April 28.

Both Carney and Poilievre centred their campaigns on Trump and the US tariff war, with Carney even going so far as to say the long relationship Canada and the United States have enjoyed thus far “is over.”

The Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday released a statement announcing a “constructive conversation” about Canada and America’s relationship had taken place between the two leaders.

Carney and Trump “agreed to begin comprehensive negotiations about a new economic and security relationship,” wrote the PMO.

To address immediate concerns, the leaders “agreed that conversations between the Minister of International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, Dominic LeBlanc, and the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, will intensify.” Continue…

There is no evidence so far that Conservative candidate Joe Tay fell short because of Beijing’s efforts, but in the lead-up to the vote election security officials had warned he was the victim of a transnational repression operation.

Tay was running in the Don Valley North riding of Toronto, which was the site of Chinese interference in the 2019 Liberal nomination contest, according to government intelligence.
