Cops aren't a class, let alone a protected one. They are, however, agents of the state/county/city they work for, and represent those gov. entities when on duty and interacting with citizens.
Additionally, their job requires a certain level of immunity, since they have to make split second decisions a lot of the time. They don't always make the right choices, but they are held accountable most of the time, either by their superiors or the legal system, if they fuck up too severely.

Some job positions receive absolute immunity, but cops have to prove they were following protocol. And they put their own safety on the line for assholes like you to be completely disrespectful and ignorant.
