California Democrats in the State Assembly are once again blocking a bill that would make the sex trafficking of minors a felony.

California Democrats in the State Assembly are once again blocking a bill that would make the sex trafficking of minors a felony — this time for victims age 16 and 17 — preferring instead to give prosecutors discretion.

Notably, some of those prosecutors would be George Soros-backed prosecutors who have avoided enforcing the law in the name of “criminal justice reform,” and whom voters have begun to oust across the state.

The blocking effort is the latest chapter in a saga that began in 2023. As Breitbart News reported at the time, Republican State Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) had introduced a bill to make sex trafficking of minors a “serious felony.” It passed unanimously in the State Senate, but Democrats on the State Assembly’s Public Safety Committee blocked the bill, since they did not want to increase criminal penalties generally.

Faced with public embarrassment, Democrats struck a deal in 2024 with Grove, under which the bill would advance but only if it was limited to victims under the age of 16. Now, a Democrat, State Assemblymember Maggy Krell (D-Sacramento), is trying to make trafficking minors aged 16 and 17 a felony, too — and fellow Democrats are refusing to allow the bill to advance.

Sacramento-area NBC affiliate KCRA reported Monday:

California lawmakers in the Assembly Public Safety Committee are blocking a proposal that would make it a felony to purchase 16 and 17-year-old children for sex.

Assemblyman Nick Shultz, the Democratic chairman of the committee, confirmed AB 379, a bill to crack down on the consumers of the child sex trafficking industry, will move forward on Tuesday, but without the proposed felony charge.

“My perspective as chair, there was a carefully crafted deal last year,” Shultz said. “We’re not saying no, but what we’re saying is if we’re going to be thoughtful policy makers, we really need to dive deep into this issue.”

The proposed bill, even without the provisions that Democrats on the Public Safety Committee are blocking, will roll back some of a bill that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed in 2022 that prevented police from arresting prostitutes for loitering — a bill that led to an explosion of street prostitution, including child sex trafficking.

The bill recalls efforts by State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) to decriminalize various sex crimes involving minors in their late teens, arguing that these penalize the LGBTQ community disproportionately.

Those familiar with the case will recall that Flynn was accused of improperly discussing sanctions with the Russian ambassador and then allegedly lying to the FBI about it. Even if one were to ignore the obvious point that an incoming National Security Advisor has every right—indeed, every responsibility—to engage with foreign diplomats, the factual basis for the accusation was false from the outset.

China is normally the largest export market for U.S. agricultural products. In a typical year, we sell tens of billions of dollars worth of agricultural products to the Chinese, but now that door has been slammed shut thanks to the extremely high tariffs that China has imposed on U.S. imports. If that door is not reopened very soon, farmers all over the nation will be facing financial ruin due to massive financial losses that are already piling up. This is not a crisis that may or may not arrive someday. As you will see below, this is a crisis that is already here.

More than 1.4 billion people live in China. We send them massive amounts of soy and pork in a normal year, and that has been a very profitable arrangement for U.S. farmers. Unfortunately, demand has dried up due to the trade war, and this has thrown the U.S. agriculture industry into a state of chaos…

Soy has been severely impacted, with a 125% tariff imposed by China causing a steep decline in exports. Although recent comments from Trump hint at possible tariff reductions, prices for soy derivatives like tofu and animal feed have already climbed. Pork exports have suffered from tariffs reaching up to 72%, leading to higher domestic prices for bacon and pork chops. Dairy products, including cheese and milk, have seen prices spike after China and Mexico introduced new tariffs, affecting popular varieties like cheddar and mozzarella.

Apple exports were curtailed by tariffs from China and India, causing price hikes for varieties such as Gala and Fuji. California’s almond industry has also been hit hard, with China applying a 50% tariff; the additional logistics costs have pushed up prices for products like almond milk. Lobster prices have become increasingly volatile domestically after exports to China fell sharply under tariffs of up to 35%.

There were a few months during the pandemic that got a bit crazy, but if high tariffs persist we are going to witness a meltdown unlike anything we have ever experienced before.

The executive director of the Agriculture Transportation Coalition told CNBC that what we are facing “is a full-blown crisis already”…

Peter Friedmann, executive director of the Agriculture Transportation Coalition, or AgTC, a leading export trade group for farmers, told CNBC the number of canceled purchases of U.S. agricultural products should not be described as approaching a crisis. “It is a full-blown crisis already,” he said.

Data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursday revealed China made its biggest cancellation of pork orders since 2020, halting a shipment of 12,000 tons of pork.

Even though the tariffs have only been in place for less than a month, the Agriculture Transportation Coalition is reporting that many of its members have already been hit by “massive” financial losses…

AgTC said “massive” financial losses are already being felt by its members as a result of the trade war, based on reports it is receiving from member companies.

It is easy to say that all of the soy, pork and corn that China normally purchases should just be sold to someone else.

But the truth is that “there are no other markets that can quickly replace China’s demand”…

Agricultural exporters warned that there are no other markets that can quickly replace China’s demand and absorb the volume, and that is already affecting prices.

“We have diverted employees and production to other (less profitable) production and dramatically slowed down purchasing from independent venders (loggers, truckers, sawmills),” one lumber exporter reported to AgTC. Some products have already declined 20% in market value, the exporter reported, which it said will influence inventory planning and future investments.

Reports of Civilian Deaths in Yemen Are Mounting. The Pentagon Is Remaining Mostly Silent.

After reports of two major strikes against targets inside Yemen, officials at U.S. Central Command are refusing to discuss whether either action resulted in multiple civilian casualties or if either strike was militarily justified.

The silence on this topic is a sharp contrast from the official public presence of the combatant command. On social media, U.S. Central Command's presence has been a near constant stream of U.S. fighter jets and other military equipment and boasts about "continuous 24/7 operations" and claims that Yemen's Houthi rebels are terrorists since the bombing campaign began over a month ago.

Press reports citing Houthi sources have said U.S. strikes on the Yemeni port of Ras Isa earlier this month killed more than 70 people and wounded around twice as many, while another strike this week hit a migrant detention center, killing almost 70 African migrants. Those strikes are among hundreds of others as the military campaign has continued against the Houthis, who have targeted international shipping in the region, for weeks.

The reports of casualties and lack of information from the Pentagon caused some senators on Capitol Hill to allege the Trump administration has a "serious disregard for civilian life."

In a statement Sunday, the command, which began the open-ended bombing campaign on March 15, went even further and declared that it "will not reveal specifics about what we've done or what we will do."

Military.com reached out to officials at U.S. Central Command about the reports and Houthi claims after both strikes.

After the Ras Isa fuel port strikes, Military.com asked officials whether they disputed the Houthi death figures or if they had any responses to the allegations that striking a civilian port constituted a war crime.

An unnamed official, replying from a general email account at U.S. Central Command, simply replied that they "have nothing to provide outside of the statement that was released on 17 April."

After the strike this past weekend on the migrant detention center, Military.com again asked officials on Monday whether they disputed the Houthi claim that nearly 70 civilians were killed or if they were aware of what they were targeting at the site.

Another unnamed official replied and said Central Command was "aware of the claims of civilian casualties related to the U.S. strikes" and that they were "currently conducting our battle-damage assessment and inquiry into those claims."

The refusal to engage even on basic topics stemming from their military operations is a relatively new development.

Unlike those cases, however, the administration has opted to quietly send Iraqi national Omar Abdulsattar Ameen from the US to Rwanda, wherein Rwanda acts as a “third country.” But it remains unclear what legal processes allowed for this to happen.

The cable, sent today—April 22, 2025—confirms Ameen’s “relocation” has already happened. Government ignores AUKUS ‘very high risk’ warning from the Admiral in charge

The AUKUS Submarine Project faces huge risks, and the Cabinet knows. But as the Government ships $2B of taxpayers’ money to the US this year, with much more to follow, the taxpayer isn’t being told.

On 26 February this year, Vice Admiral Jonathan Mead, the man in charge of AUKUS, advised the Senate that the AUKUS submarine program was “very high risk”. He said, “We’ve made that clear to government, and the government has made that clear to the public.”

However, it has not.

I follow AUKUS closely and had not heard that publicly before. Whilst it is absolutely the case, and something MWM has reported on extensively, this was the first public admission of the very high risk nature of the project from the Australian Submarine Agency.

Concerns about US submarine production rates and the weakness of the UK’s submarine industrial base have generated grave doubts about whether the $368B AUKUS scheme will deliver nuclear-powered submarines for Australia.

Moreover, former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has revealed, after conversations with insiders, that there is no Plan B.

Plan B is that we will not get any submarines.

I was somewhat surprised by Admiral Mead’s unusual candour, so on 27 February, I moved to test the veracity of his remarks with an FOI application directed at the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) seeking access to “any ministerial submission or briefing provided by ASA to the Minister for Defence … that refers to the AUKUS nuclear submarine program as involving ‘high risk’ or ‘very high risk’.”

I also sought access to ‘any statement made by the Minister for Defence or the Minister for Defence Industry and Capability Delivery that refers to the AUKUS nuclear submarine program as involving ‘high risk’ or ‘very high risk’.”

A decision on those was made this week. FOI applications can reveal the truth by what is disclosed, by what is withheld, and by confirming what doesn’t exist.

ASA confirmed the existence of a ministerial briefing characterising the AUKUS submarine program as involving ‘high risk’ or ‘very high risk’, but refused access to that briefing on national security and Cabinet secrecy grounds. Significantly, ASA’s refusal decision confirmed this document was produced for the dominant purpose of briefing a Minister on an attached Cabinet submission.

In effect, the Submarine Agency confirmed Admiral Mead’s statement that ASA has briefed the government on the ‘high risk’ or ‘very high risk’ nature of the AUKUS project, and that briefing was submitted to the Defence Minister for Cabinet consideration.

That high-risk assessment has gone to the very top of the Government.

Alarm bells should be ringing.
