“They began moving scientists from the endeavor of making tobacco more addictive to developing new lab ingredients that would make food addictive.”

Russia and China agreed to make every effort to counter "the increasing attempts to rehabilitate the hateful ideology of Nazism and racial superiority".

The countries "will continue to jointly oppose the glorification of Nazis and their accomplices, the rise of neo-Nazism, militaristic revanchism and practices that contribute to the escalation of various forms of racial discrimination, racism, xenophobia and related intolerance."

"The Sides call on the world community to respect and protect the principles developed by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and the International Military Tribunal for the Far East aimed at preventing the outbreak of wars, genocide, war crimes, torture and other crimes against humanity."

Katz threatens Houthis, Iran with ‘heavy blows’ as Israel grapples with US truce fallout

Israel threatened Yemen’s Houthi rebels with “heavy” military strikes and warned the group’s Iranian sponsors that they would suffer the same fate as other regional foes of Israel if attacks on the country did not halt.

Speaking two days after the United States announced that it had reached a ceasefire with the Yemeni terror group, Defense Minister Israel Katz called for Israel to be capable of defending itself even if deprived of American support, as some Israeli officials privately expressed concerns over the ramifications of the US deal.

“The Houthis will absorb heavy blows from Israel if they continue firing at us. The IDF is prepared for any mission,” Katz said in a statement early Thursday morning.

He added that Iran, which is accused of funding and arming the Houthis, would also be targeted, saying an array of other Iranian proxy groups that had targeted Israel since war in Gaza broke out with Hamas’s October 7, 2023, assault had “collapsed.”

“I also warn the Iranian leadership that funds, arms and operates the Houthi terror organization… You are directly responsible. What we did to Hezbollah in Beirut, Hamas in Gaza, to Assad in Damascus and the Houthis in Yemen, will also be done to you in Tehran,” Katz stated, in comments that echoed previous US threats.

Investigation Alleges ‘Widespread’ Chinese Spying at Stanford U.

According to the investigation, an agent with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “impersonated a Stanford student” under the alias Charles Chen, then took to social media, where he began messaging students, including one who was “conducting sensitive research on China,” the Stanford Review reported.

“At first, Charles’s outreach seemed benign,” the newspaper explained, noting that the CCP agent initially “asked about networking opportunities,” shortly before “his messages took a strange turn.”

The student, who goes by the pseudonym Anna in the article, told the newspaper that Chen’s messages became more persistent and personal over time, and that he eventually sent her videos of Americans he said became famous in China, before encouraging her to visit Beijing, at which point he even offered to pay for her travel expenses.

“He would send screenshots of a bank account balance to prove he could buy the plane tickets. Alarmingly, he referenced details about her that Anna had never disclosed to him,” the Stanford Review said.

Chen reportedly advised Anna to visit China for only 24 to 144 hours in order to avoid a run-in with authorities over her visa status. He also urged the Stanford student to communicate with him solely on the Chinese messaging app WeChat — monitored heavily by the CCP.

After speaking with experts familiar with espionage tactics, Anna went to authorities, who reportedly investigated the matter and discovered that Chen had no affiliation with the university.

“Instead, he had posed as a Stanford student for years, slightly altering his name and persona online, targeting multiple students, nearly all of them women researching China-related topics,” the Stanford student newspaper reported.

The experts who spoke with Anna reportedly surmised that Chen is a Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) agent, tasked with identifying sympathetic Stanford students and collecting intelligence.

“Many individuals spoke to us on the condition of anonymity,” the Stanford Review explained in a follow-up X post, citing one student who was too afraid to share their story, telling the newspaper, “The risk is too high.”

Von der Leyen Calls On EU To Hasten Ukrainian Entry As Blow To Putin

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is calling for the fast-tracking of EU accession talks for Ukraine, though we can imagine quietly behind the scenes other European officials aren't looking forward to the day that one of the world's most corrupt countries joins the bloc.

Speaking at a Europe Day event on Wednesday, von der Leyen urged for the process to start this year, in 2025, in order to "help Ukraine stand strong" and "defy Putin’s intimidations" - according to a readout.

"Today, I would like to focus on how we can do so, and on three priorities for our action," she said. "First, support Ukraine’s defense. Second, complete the phase-out of Russian fossil fuels. And third, accelerate Ukraine’s accession path to our Union."

She then emphasized that Brussels is "working hard with Ukraine to open the first cluster of accession talks, and to open all clusters in 2025."

The Kremlin last year said that it is open to Ukraine joining the EU, but stressed that the question of joining NATO remains an impossibility, and that Moscow will never allow it.

Still, at around same time the EU question was raised, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had asserted that the EU itself, which is supposed to be a purely economic and politically-linked bloc, is "becoming militarized at a record pace."

Meanwhile, the European Union has of late seemed much more open about its willingness to sabotage Trump efforts toward achieving peace in Ukraine.

The EU's top diplomat Kaja Kallas last week told the Financial Times in an interview that the bloc will not recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea under any circumstances. Really, this should be the most obvious and 'easiest' concession to make, but alas Brussels is saying no!

The White House is seeking to pressure the Zelensky government to get to the negotiating table fast, and the quickest and easiest concession would be expected to center on letting go of Crimea, which Moscow declared part of the Russian Federation after a 2014 popular referendum.

"I can’t see that we are accepting these kind of things. But we can’t speak for America, of course, and what they will do," Kallas had said. "On the European side, we have said this over and over again… Crimea is Ukraine."

"There are tools in the Americans’ hands that they can use to put the pressure on Russia to really stop this war," Kallas continued. "President Trump has said that he wants the killing to stop. He should put the pressure on the one who is doing the killing."

This has basically been the Ukrainian government's position all along as well. For this reason, she said Brussels and other European capitals are still focused on "working with the Americans and trying to convince them why the outcome of this war is also in their interest, that Russia doesn’t really get everything that it wants." But again, Crimea should be the easiest issue.

Former School Superintendent Sentenced to 30 Years in Federal Prison for Sexual Exploitation of Children

According to court documents, Matthew D. Constant, 53, a former school superintendent, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison followed by a life term of supervised release for two counts of online enticement of a minor, three counts of receipt of child pornography, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, and two counts of transferring obscene material to a minor.

Ohio Gov. DeWine Moves to Block State GOP From Endorsing Vivek Ramaswamy

Ohio Gov, Mike DeWine (R) is reportedly “scrambling” behind-the-scenes to keep the Ohio Republican Party from endorsing former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to be the state’s next governor.

According to NBC News, DeWine and his advisers are working to deny Ramaswamy an endorsement when the state party meets on Friday.

President Donald Trump endorsed Ramaswamy. This is the second time the two Republican leaders are at odds (via NBC):

DeWine and Trump were on opposite sides last year in a high-profile GOP Senate primary that Bernie Moreno — Trump’s candidate — ultimately won. And since DeWine chose Ohio State football legend Jim Tressel to serve as his lieutenant governor in January, there has been wide speculation that he prefers the former coach to succeed him. Aside from attending some party fundraisers, Tressel has sent no signals he intends to run, though he has not ruled it out.

“I think he would like to forestall an endorsement taking place, because I think he would like to see if he can convince Jim Tressel to run for governor,” one Republican leader in the state said of DeWine. This person, like others interviewed for this article, was granted anonymity to discuss private conversations and intraparty disputes involving a sitting president and governor.

“As far as who I endorse in the Republican primary for Governor, it is much too early, as we do not even know who all will be in the race,” DeWine said in the Tuesday statement. “We are now 364 days away from the primary and 293 days away from the filing deadline. In politics, this is a lifetime!”

Ukraine ready for immediate ceasefire – Zelensky

The Ukrainian leader has called for the hostilities to be stopped for at least 30 days after a phone call with US President Donald Trump

According to Zelensky, the discussions focused on ways to “bring a real and lasting ceasefire closer,” as well as the “situation on the frontlines” and ongoing “diplomatic efforts.” He maintained that the truce should last for at least 30 days, claiming it would “create many opportunities for diplomacy.”

“Ukraine is ready for a complete ceasefire today, right from this moment,” he said, adding that it should include “no missile strikes, drone attacks, or hundreds of assaults along the frontline.” He called on Russia to give an “adequate” response to the offer and to “demonstrate their willingness to end the war.” Zelensky also urged Washington to support this initiative.

His statement came amid a 72-hour Victory Day ceasefire unilaterally declared by Russia. President Vladimir Putin announced the truce last week, describing it as a humanitarian gesture to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany that could also serve as a catalyst for “the start of direct negotiations with Kiev without preconditions.”
