This is the gist of two joint statements: on the further deepening of relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between the two countries, as well as on global strategic stability. The documents were adopted by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping following talks in Moscow.

Israel threatened Yemen’s Houthi rebels with “heavy” military strikes and warned the group’s Iranian sponsors that they would suffer the same fate as other regional foes of Israel if attacks on the country did not halt.

Speaking two days after the United States announced that it had reached a ceasefire with the Yemeni terror group, Defense Minister Israel Katz called for Israel to be capable of defending itself even if deprived of American support, as some Israeli officials privately expressed concerns over the ramifications of the US deal.

“The Houthis will absorb heavy blows from Israel if they continue firing at us. The IDF is prepared for any mission,” Katz said in a statement early Thursday morning.

He added that Iran, which is accused of funding and arming the Houthis, would also be targeted, saying an array of other Iranian proxy groups that had targeted Israel since war in Gaza broke out with Hamas’s October 7, 2023, assault had “collapsed.”

“I also warn the Iranian leadership that funds, arms and operates the Houthi terror organization… You are directly responsible. FBI opens formal criminal probe into New York AG Letitia James over alleged mortgage fraud

The FBI and US Attorney’s Office in Albany have launched a criminal investigation into mortgage fraud claims against New York Attorney General Letitia James, a source familiar with the probe told The Post.

The investigation, first reported by the Albany Times Union, follows a request that the Justice Department investigate James, sent by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte to the Justice Department last month.

New York’s Northern District, where Pulte’s referral was steered, is led by US Attorney John Sarcone III, an ally of President Trump.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, who reps the district where the investigation was initiated, commended the FBI and Albany prosecutors.

“The investigation into Letitia James is a vital step toward justice,” the Republican congresswoman said in a statement. “I will continue to fight to expose NY corruption, protect constitutional rights, and hold these failed Democrat leaders in NY accountable.”

Pulte’s letter alleged James “falsified records” to obtain favorable loans on a home she purchased in 2023 in Virginia and a Brooklyn brownstone she’s owned since 2001.

Investigation Alleges ‘Widespread’ Chinese Spying at Stanford U.

According to the investigation, an agent with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “impersonated a Stanford student” under the alias Charles Chen, then took to social media, where he began messaging students, including one who was “conducting sensitive research on China,” the Stanford Review reported.

“At first, Charles’s outreach seemed benign,” the newspaper explained, noting that the CCP agent initially “asked about networking opportunities,” shortly before “his messages took a strange turn.”

The student, who goes by the pseudonym Anna in the article, told the newspaper that Chen’s messages became more persistent and personal over time, and that he eventually sent her videos of Americans he said became famous in China, before encouraging her to visit Beijing, at which point he even offered to pay for her travel expenses.

“He would send screenshots of a bank account balance to prove he could buy the plane tickets. Alarmingly, he referenced details about her that Anna had never disclosed to him,” the Stanford Review said.

Chen reportedly advised Anna to visit China for only 24 to 144 hours in order to avoid a run-in with authorities over her visa status. He also urged the Stanford student to communicate with him solely on the Chinese messaging app WeChat — monitored heavily by the CCP.

After speaking with experts familiar with espionage tactics, Anna went to authorities, who reportedly investigated the matter and discovered that Chen had no affiliation with the university.

“Instead, he had posed as a Stanford student for years, slightly altering his name and persona online, targeting multiple students, nearly all of them women researching China-related topics,” the Stanford student newspaper reported.

The experts who spoke with Anna reportedly surmised that Chen is a Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) agent, tasked with identifying sympathetic Stanford students and collecting intelligence.

“Many individuals spoke to us on the condition of anonymity,” the Stanford Review explained in a follow-up X post, citing one student who was too afraid to share their story, telling the newspaper, “The risk is too high.”

Why Prevost's papal prospects prompt pushback

As high-profile cardinals urge votes for Prevost, some abuse advocates raise concern

But as Maradiaga and Pierre seemingly urge votes toward Prevost, abuse advocates are raising concerns about the cardinal’s candidacy, suggesting that Prevost’s handling of abuse cases should disqualify him from office.

Among the cases flagged by advocates are charges that Prevost’s former Diocese of Chiclayo has been accused of mishandling clerical allegations made by three sisters, who say that in 2022, when they reported abuse in the diocese, Prevost failed to open an investigation into the claims.

They also charge that documentation sent to Rome on the case was purposely designed to look inadequate so as to prevent action on the case.

The Diocese of Chiclayo has maintained that the accusations had been handled according to canonical norms and in line with Church policy - that Cardinal Prevost had met with the young women in April 2022, and encouraged them to take their case to the civil authorities, while opening an initial canonical investigation.

The diocese further said that the results of their initial investigation were sent to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, along with notice that the civil investigation had been shelved for lack of evidence and because the statute of limitations had expired.

But in a statement published last September, the three alleged victims claim that there had been no investigation, or at least nothing substantial or serious. If anything was sent to Rome, they allege, it was tailored to be considered insufficient and not merit the opening of a full penal canonical investigation.

“We strenuously deny the existence of any ‘initial investigation’ during the tenure of Mons. Robert Francis Prevost Martínez OSA,” they said. “As proof of our statements, we point to the non-existence of any decree ordering the opening of an investigation, or of any decree issuing precautionary measures.”

“During this period, we were never called by any investigator to make any deposition,” they state, noting that they are referring specifically to the period between April 2022 and November 2023, when one alleged victim went public with her allegations.

The women also claim that they were never offered any psychological support, or assistance of any kind. They also point to what they say is a legal error in the diocesan statement, which claims that the civil case was thrown out for lack of evidence — the sisters say that the only reason given by the civil authorities was that the statute of limitations had expired, with no reference made to a supposed lack of evidence.

As the dispute unfolded, the victims claimed that an accused priest admitted guilt to Prevost directly, compounding the charges that Prevost had mishandled the case.

Another case — first reported by The Pillar in 2021 — has also drawn attention amid Prevost’s candidacy.

In 2000, Prevost allowed a Chicago archdiocesan priest who sexually abused minors to live in an Augustinian rectory around the corner from a Catholic school — in a residence Cardinal Blase Cupich later said was not appropriate for priests accused of abuse.

in September 2000, Fr. James Ray was permitted to live at St. John Stone Friary, a house of the Chicago province of the Augustinian religious order. The friary is half a block from a parish elementary school.

According to diocesan records, the move required approval by Prevost, who was then an Augustinian provincial superior.

According to diocesan records reviewed by The Pillar, Ray had been restricted in ministry for nine years by 2000, and had been accused multiple times of sexually abusing boys, at least one of them for years. He had admitted to bringing at least one boy to sleep in his rectory bed, but said of one allegation that he “did not recall” having sexually assaulted a child with whom he admitted to having “cuddled.” Ray did admit to diocesan officials that in 1993 he engaged in sexual activity with a man while on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, a supposed Marian apparition site in Croatia.

A July 2000 memo from a Chicago archdiocesan official indicates that the Augustinians at the friary said they would permit Ray to rent rooms in the building after they received permission from their provincial superior, Prevost. Ray actually moved in two months later.

The friary was the second choice of a residence for Ray, who was required to move in 2000 because of the pending sale of the diocesan property where he had been living under supervision. The first rectory proposed for his residence was rejected by the archdiocesan review board because it was on the same property as a parish school.

Archdiocesan records say the Augustinian residence was considered suitable for Ray because “there is no school in the immediate area.”

In fact, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic elementary school is less than a block from the residence. But there is no record that archdiocesan officials who visited the site or Augustinian leaders raised that as a concern, even though a Catholic school principal had warned the archdiocese years earlier that Ray sometimes took children out of class, and that he was “touchytender” with some students.

When the Augustinians permitted Ray to live at the friary, records indicate they understood at least summarily what accusations the priest faced. Augustinian leaders met with diocesan officials to discuss Ray’s background, and an Augustinian in residence at the house agreed to monitor the priest’s compliance with the restrictions of his ministry set by the archdiocese, including that he not be alone with children.

But administrators at St. Thomas the Apostle School were not notified that a priest accused of serial sexually abusing children was living in proximity to the parish elementary school, that he should not be allowed to help out in the school or parish, or that he was not permitted to be alone with children.

To date, Prevost has declined comment on the Chicago situation, giving no indication of regret for the decision, or indicating how he might have handled it differently. On the Peruvian charges, the cardinal has pointed to a defense made by the diocese, suggesting that Prevost took the necessary canonical steps to address the allegations raised against him.

For their part, victims’ advocates have in recent days called attention to the cases in Rome, urging the College of Cardinals to choose someone as pope who is seemingly less connected to the prospect of negligence or cover-up with regard to abuse.

But it’s not clear whether those concerns are being heard by cardinals — and the complexity of the Peruvian situation has likely caused some cardinals to throw their hands up over the whole thing, suggesting that the truth can’t be furrowed out ahead of the conclave.

Some cardinals have also expressed their view that in 2025, no prelate who has been a diocesan bishop is exempt from criticism over his handling of abuse cases, and some have raised concern about the prospect that information about Prevost is being weaponized by his perceived ideological enemies.

Indeed, it is likely the case that in the run-up to the conclave, some media outlets are highlighting charges of negligence or cover-up connected to ideological opponents, and downplaying allegations of perceived allies.

But abuse advocates themselves say they have no party in inter-ecclesiastical spats, they want only confidence that the next pope will act with integrity — and without personal bias — in handling clerical abuse cases around the world. And some have said Prevost’s record should give the cardinals pause.

Advocates especially note that after Francis gained a reputation for protecting friends and allies from abuse charges, the perception of integrity should be a critical factor in assessing the next pontiff. That, they say, is the only way to see meaningful reform on clerical abuse and neglect across the Church.

Advocates will continue to make those points over the next days, before the cardinals go into the conclave and make decisions among themselves. But what that will mean for Prevost remains to be seen.

Von der Leyen Calls On EU To Hasten Ukrainian Entry As Blow To Putin

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is calling for the fast-tracking of EU accession talks for Ukraine, though we can imagine quietly behind the scenes other European officials aren't looking forward to the day that one of the world's most corrupt countries joins the bloc.

Speaking at a Europe Day event on Wednesday, von der Leyen urged for the process to start this year, in 2025, in order to "help Ukraine stand strong" and "defy Putin’s intimidations" - according to a readout.

"Today, I would like to focus on how we can do so, and on three priorities for our action," she said. "First, support Ukraine’s defense. Second, complete the phase-out of Russian fossil fuels. And third, accelerate Ukraine’s accession path to our Union."

She then emphasized that Brussels is "working hard with Ukraine to open the first cluster of accession talks, and to open all clusters in 2025."

The Kremlin last year said that it is open to Ukraine joining the EU, but stressed that the question of joining NATO remains an impossibility, and that Moscow will never allow it.

Still, at around same time the EU question was raised, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had asserted that the EU itself, which is supposed to be a purely economic and politically-linked bloc, is "becoming militarized at a record pace."

Meanwhile, the European Union has of late seemed much more open about its willingness to sabotage Trump efforts toward achieving peace in Ukraine.

The EU's top diplomat Kaja Kallas last week told the Financial Times in an interview that the bloc will not recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea under any circumstances. Really, this should be the most obvious and 'easiest' concession to make, but alas Brussels is saying no!

The White House is seeking to pressure the Zelensky government to get to the negotiating table fast, and the quickest and easiest concession would be expected to center on letting go of Crimea, which Moscow declared part of the Russian Federation after a 2014 popular referendum.

"I can’t see that we are accepting these kind of things. But we can’t speak for America, of course, and what they will do," Kallas had said. "On the European side, we have said this over and over again… Crimea is Ukraine."

"There are tools in the Americans’ hands that they can use to put the pressure on Russia to really stop this war," Kallas continued. "President Trump has said that he wants the killing to stop. He should put the pressure on the one who is doing the killing."

This has basically been the Ukrainian government's position all along as well. For this reason, she said Brussels and other European capitals are still focused on "working with the Americans and trying to convince them why the outcome of this war is also in their interest, that Russia doesn’t really get everything that it wants." But again, Crimea should be the easiest issue.

FBI and DOJ Announce Rescues of 115 Children and Arrests of Over 200 Alleged Pedophile Predators as Part of ‘Operation Restore Justice’

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice have announced that 115 children have been rescued and 205 alleged pedophile sex predators have been arrested as part of “Operation Restore Justice.”

The arrests were announced in press releases on Wednesday morning.

All 55 FBI field offices were involved in the nationwide five-day operation.

The FBI said in a statement, “The Federal Bureau of Investigation has concluded a national surge of resources to arrest accused child sex abuse offenders and combat child exploitation. In a coordinated effort by all 55 FBI field offices called Operation Restore Justice, 205 people were arrested nationwide, and 115 children were rescued across the country during the five-day surge of resources deployed for Operation Restore Justice.”

FBI Director Kash Patel said the operation’s success proves “no predator is out of reach and no child will be forgotten.”

“Every child deserves to grow up free from fear and exploitation, and the FBI will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of those who exploit the most vulnerable among us,” said Patel. “Operation Restore Justice proves that no predator is out of reach and no child will be forgotten. By leveraging the strength of all our field offices and our federal, state and local partners, we’re sending a clear message: there is no place to hide for those who prey on children.”

The DOJ added, “Those arrested are alleged to have committed various crimes including the production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material, online enticement and transportation of minors, and child sex trafficking. In Minneapolis, for example, a state trooper and Army Reservist was arrested for allegedly producing child sexual abuse material while wearing his uniforms. In Norfolk, VA, an illegal alien from Mexico is accused of transporting a minor across state lines for sex. In Washington, D.C., a former Metropolitan Police Department Police Officer was arrested for allegedly trafficking minor victims.”

In one example, a California man was arrested after his victim bravely told FBI agents about the abuse after an online safety presentation at their school near Albany, NY.

In another case, Justin Enright, 51, of Millsboro, Delaware, a felon convicted on federal child sexual abuse charges, was arrested after violating the terms of his probation, including intent to view child pornography. Joel Thomas Biermann, 46, of University Park, Maryland, was indicted for two counts of producing child sexual abuse material, one count of distributing child sexual abuse material, and one count of possessing child sexual abuse material. Donald Robert Wilt Edwards, Sr., 29, of West Virginia, was indicted for sexually exploiting a minor, as well as three counts of distribution of child sexual abuse material, and one count of possession of child pornography.

“The Department of Justice will never stop fighting to protect victims — especially child victims — and we will not rest until we hunt down, arrest, and prosecute every child predator who preys on the most vulnerable among us,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “I am grateful to the FBI and their state and local partners for their incredible work in Operation Restore Justice and have directed my prosecutors not to negotiate.”

SEVEN DETROIT RESIDENTS And A Pastor Appear Before MI House Election Integrity Committee To Reveal Shocking First-Hand Testimony About Massive Election-Stealing Scheme

Seven “Living Affidavits,” from the city of Detroit, including Ramon Jackson, appeared before the Michigan House Election Integrity Committee on Monday to testify about what they believe is the root cause of their city’s decades-long devastation.

Michigan Representative Rachelle Smit, a longtime former clerk and chair of the MI House Election Integrity Committee, invited Detroit Activist Ramon Jackson to appear with Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of the 180 Church in Detroit, to appear with six additional witnesses who have signed affidavits attesting to what they argue are serious crimes against them and their community.

Pastor Lorenzo began the hearing with an impassioned plea for help from the Michigan House Election Integrity Committee. Chair Rachelle Smit followed his fiery pronouncement of rampant voter fraud in Detroit and other black-majority cities across America by asking the man who uncovered the crimes, “The Advocate,” Ramon Jackson, to speak next.

For most of his life, Ramon Jackson, also known as “The Advocate,” has lived in Detroit. For years, he has been fighting for strong leadership in Detroit. On several occasions, after working hard to push for honest candidates to replace self-serving elected leaders in Detroit, Mr. Jackson found himself frustrated to discover that his candidates, despite their popularity, were repeatedly losing elections.

Mr. Jackson moved to Ohio for a short period of time. After moving out of state, Mr. Jackson did what most people do when they move to a new location: he obtained a new Ohio driver’s license. Shortly after he obtained his new Ohio driver’s license, he discovered that he had been registered to vote at his previous Detroit address. Mr. Jackson knew he hadn’t registered himself to vote at his previous address, and that someone or some entity with bad intentions must have registered him to vote there, so he decided to take a closer look. Ramon Jackson was shocked by what he discovered after he requested and obtained a copy of Detroit’s QVF (Qualified Voting Files). In addition to finding names he didn’t recognize registered to vote at homes where he knew the homeowners, he also found names of several individuals he had known for years who bragged about never voting, yet, here they were, not only registered to vote after they moved out of the city, but some were actually VOTING in multiple elections!

In his testimony, Mr. Jackson discussed a pattern he’s discovered of “low or no-propensity voters” who “frequently move around” that are being registered to vote by someone other than themselves. In addition, once they are registered to vote, their names are being used to cast votes. Ramon claims whoever is registering these individuals is preying on those who have “unstable” living situations, or are moving frequently around the city of Detroit. These newly created voters can either be found moving from one residence to another within the city of Detroit, moving out of the city of Detroit to another location in Michigan, or out of state.

It wasn’t long before Mr. Jackson started to understand that this potentially large-scale scheme in the city of Detroit to steal votes could be the difference between Detroit citizens “electing” their choice of candidates for local, state, and federal positions, or candidates being “selected” for them. If Mr. Jackson hadn’t uncovered this scheme, it could have gone on for decades, while unsuspecting individuals who move away from their homes would have no reason to check the voter rolls to see if they’ve been registered to vote at their previous addresses after they move.

Bounce Imaging, a company based in the US, has developed a new camera robot to improve intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).

This technology aims to prevent hostile access to nuclear weapons silos.

The system, dubbed the Recce360 Deep Inspection Camera, is being presented at this week’s SOF Week exhibition and positioned as a first-of-its-kind ISR asset certified for deployment in high-security, electromagnetically restrictive environments.

World’s first nuclear-resistant camera

Developed in direct response to classified vulnerability assessments concerning potential unauthorized entry into nuclear storage infrastructure, the Recce360 system represents a hardened, non-emitting surveillance solution engineered for denied or degraded environments, Military Embedded Systems (MES) reported.

According to Bounce Imaging, this system is the only tactical camera approved for nuclear asset protection operations.

Certification was achieved following successful trials under “Dash 12” environmental testing standards, which are rigorous criteria typically applied to systems deployed in electromagnetic-sensitive or signal-restricted domains.

More than 60 service members were injured as a part of former President Joe Biden’s floating aid pier in Gaza, a Pentagon Inspector General report published on Tuesday said, a number significantly higher than had been previously disclosed.

The pier, announced by Biden during a televised address to Congress in March 2024, was a massive endeavor that took about 1,000 U.S. forces to execute.

But bad weather and distribution challenges inside Gaza limited the effectiveness of what the U.S. military says was its biggest aid delivery effort ever in the Middle East. The pier was only operational for about 20 days and cost about $230 million…

“Based on the information provided, we were not able to determine which of these 62 injuries occurred during the performance of duties or resulted off duty or from pre-existing medical conditions,” the report said.

The pier became a sore point in Congress, where Republicans branded it a political stunt by Biden, who was under pressure from fellow Democrats to do more to aid Palestinians after months of staunchly supporting Israel’s punishing war on Hamas.

This is one of the things Biden should be remembered for.

This is a perfect example of the type of thing the media ignored while Biden was president. They turned a blind eye to anything they thought might damage the Democrats or help Trump.

Yet few people on the street know what it is, what it does, or how much taxpayer cash is flowing into its well-financed coffers.

Sure, it has a shiny website stocked with techno-waffle promising to help scientists “reach for the edge of the possible” and foster “opportunity spaces” but there has been little clarity on its day-to-day operations.

This week, we learnt it will spend £56.8 million on 21 “climate cooling” projects, which include looking into the logistics of building a “sun shade” in space and injecting plumes of salt water into the sky to reflect sunlight away from Earth.

“We’re not trying to dim the sun,” representatives from Aria said rather disingenuously at a press briefing, knowing full well that should experiments prove successful, that is their ultimate aim.

Prof Mike Hulme, of Cambridge University, pointed out that the experiments were setting Britain on a “slippery slope” towards mass deployment of technologies that will be impossible to prove are safe, effective and reversible until they are actually in the sky.

He warned: “[The sum of] £57 million is a huge amount of taxpayers’ money to be spent on this assortment of speculative technologies intended to manipulate the Earth’s climate.”

Aria has been given an eye-watering £800 million budget to play with, with little to show for it so far, except some off-the-wall ideas, and astronomically high wage bills.

Ilan Gur, the chief executive, is being paid around £450,000 annually – three times more than the Prime Minister, while Antonia Jenkinson, the chief finance officer, takes home around £215,000 and Pippy James, the chief product officer, around £175,000.

In fact, Aria is blowing £4.1 million a year on wages despite having just 37 staff, with the top four staff at the company pocketing nearly £1 million of taxpayers’ cash each year between them.

It means essentially Aria is operating like a private company, but doing so on public finances. And it is wading into areas where the private sector would normally dominate.

Playing poker with public money

In January, it announced it would be giving £69 million to research on neural robots for epilepsy treatment, genetic engineering of brain cells and lab-grown brain organoids.

It is also funding an NHS trial to use a brain computer interface that alters brain activity using ultrasound, in the hopes it will treat depression and addiction, as well as investing in synthetic plants and chromosomes.

Such sci-fi future-gazing is usually left to billionaire tech bros or big pharma, precisely because the cost is prohibitive and private companies have the resources to soak up the risk.

But the Government has given Aria free rein to embark on scientific research that “carries a high risk of failure” – something that the public sector usually shies away from.

The “high risk, high reward” strategy is reminiscent of Elon Musk’s “fail fast” approach that has undoubtedly brought success at Space X and Tesla.

But while Mr Musk had clear objectives, and put $100 million of his own money on the line, Aria’s approach feels far more scattergun, as if it doesn’t quite know what it is trying to achieve.

It is operating like a speculative venture capital fund, essentially playing poker with the public purse.

If Britain were booming, maybe this could be justified, but public sector debt is rising and now, more than ever, taxpayers are demanding their money be used wisely.

Certainly its latest foray into geoengineering has been met with public incredulity.

When sun-dimming experiments were first mooted last month, one Telegraph reader liked it to “what Hanna-Barbera might have dreamed up to foil Dick Dastardly in Wacky Races”.

“Are these people insane?” asked another.

Aria was set up to be Britain’s equivalent of Darpa, the US defence advanced research projects agency, which was founded in 1958 by Eisenhower in response to the Soviets launching the Sputnik satellite.

Darpa, dubbed “the agency that shaped the modern world”, undoubtedly sparked a wave of innovation, and can claim some of the credit for developments such as GPS, drones, personal computers, the internet and the RNA Covid jab.

Ohio Gov, Mike DeWine (R) is reportedly “scrambling” behind-the-scenes to keep the Ohio Republican Party from endorsing former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to be the state’s next governor.

According to NBC News, DeWine and his advisers are working to deny Ramaswamy an endorsement when the state party meets on Friday.

Four people aware of this spoke to NBC News. One of the sources spoke directly to DeWine about this topic.

President Donald Trump endorsed Ramaswamy. This is the second time the two Republican leaders are at odds (via NBC):

DeWine and Trump were on opposite sides last year in a high-profile GOP Senate primary that Bernie Moreno — Trump’s candidate — ultimately won. And since DeWine chose Ohio State football legend Jim Tressel to serve as his lieutenant governor in January, there has been wide speculation that he prefers the former coach to succeed him. Aside from attending some party fundraisers, Tressel has sent no signals he intends to run, though he has not ruled it out.

“I think he would like to forestall an endorsement taking place, because I think he would like to see if he can convince Jim Tressel to run for governor,” one Republican leader in the state said of DeWine. This person, like others interviewed for this article, was granted anonymity to discuss private conversations and intraparty disputes involving a sitting president and governor.

“As far as who I endorse in the Republican primary for Governor, it is much too early, as we do not even know who all will be in the race,” DeWine said in the Tuesday statement. “We are now 364 days away from the primary and 293 days away from the filing deadline. In politics, this is a lifetime!”

Former President Joe Biden revealed Thursday in his second TV interview after leaving the White House that he “wasn’t surprised” President Trump trounced Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

“I wasn’t surprised, not because I didn’t think the vice president wasn’t the most qualified person to be president. She is,”Biden said during an, at times awkward and halting, appearanceon ABC’s “The View.”

The ousted Democratic leaderthen asserted that had he not bowed out of the last presidential contest, he would have won— pointing to Trump getting “7 million fewer votes” nationwide than in their 2020 matchup.

“A lot of people didn’t show up,” Biden said of the 2024 election. Jill Biden joined her husband, Joe Biden, as they visited “The View” on Thursday.The View/ABC

Asked by co-host JoyBehar why Trump remains “so fixated on you” and blames him for faults in the last administration, Biden replied: “I beat him.”

Trump flipped the so-called “blue wall” states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin as well as Arizona, Nevada and Georgia that he’d lost to Biden four years prior to win last November against Harris.

Harris also lost the popular vote, making Trump the first Republican presidential candidate to cross that threshold since President George W. Bush in 2004.

“View” co-host Sunny Hostin also pointed out that the vice president had said in an October interview on their show she wouldn’t have changed “a thing” about how Biden handled his term — despite the Democrat’s plummeting polling numbers.

“I did not advise her to say that,” said Biden. “I think she was talking about — she wouldn’t have changed the successes we had … as opposed to that we wouldn’t change anything at all.” “She has to be her own person — and she was,” he offered, before adding:“We’d argue like hell by the way.”

Top aides on the Harris campaign conceded after the election that their internal polling numbers also never showed the VP ahead of Trump.

After the election, the Democratic firm Blueprint found in a poll that the top three reasons Harris lost were rising inflation, the flow of illegal migrants across the border into the country and the vice president’s focus in her political career on “cultural issues like transgender issues rather than helping the middle class.”

Biden says he still talks to Harris regularly.

Biden didn’t acknowledge any of the negative public polling when answering questions Thursday about his former running-mate, opting instead to claim the Trump campaign made “sexist” attacks on Harris.

• “I wasn’t surprised because they went the route of a, the sexist route, whole route, this is a woman, she’s this, she’s that,” he also said.

• “I’ve never seen quite, uh, as successful and consistent campaign undercutting the notion that a woman couldn’t lead the country — and a woman of mixed race,” he added.

• “They played that … fairly well,” Biden trailed off, before joking that one of the hosts had begged him not to talk at length as he’s been prone to do.

• The 46th president also said that he was “very disappointed” by the Democrats’ staggering loss, claiming “liberal democracies all across America, all across the world lost last time.”

“I think we underestimate the phenomenal negative impact that COVID had and the pandemic had on people, on attitudes, on optimism, on a whole range of things,” he clarified.

The retired president also divulged that he “talks to” Harris “frequently” and had shared his “opinion” on an unidentified matter as recently as “yesterday.”

Reports Of Huge India-Pakistan Jet Dogfight; Blackout Across Jammu & Kashmir

While there's been no official confirmation, a Pakistani official has described major aerial engagements above Jamu and Kashmir Thursday. Newsweek writes based on a CNN report:

Some 125 Indian and Pakistani fighter jets battled for over an hour in one of the biggest dogfights in recent history, according to a Pakistani security source quoted by CNN.

If the numbers of aircraft were confirmed, it would make it one of the largest air battles since World War Two.

According to more of the unverified claims:

The "dog fight" between Pakistani and Indian fighter jets, which Pakistani officials say downed five Indian planes, was one of the "largest and longest in recent aviation history," a senior Pakistani security source told CNN. The Pakistani claim has not been corroborated and could not be immediately verified by Newsweek.

What is certain is that the last 24 hours have seen intense artillery fire exchanges, as well as drone strikes and intercepts, amid a ratcheting situation between the nuclear-armed rivals.

China, the US and Russia are watching closely, also given the weapons being pitted against each other:

A top Chinese-made Pakistani fighter shot down at least two Indian military aircraft on Wednesday, two US officials have told the Reuters news agency, marking a major milestone for Beijing’s advanced fighter jet.

One US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was high confidence that Pakistan had used the Chinese-made J-10 aircraft to launch air-to-air missiles against Indian fighter jets, bringing down at least two.

In the latest developments along the war-ready Indian-Pakistan border, the Pakistani military says it has downed 25 Indian drones over its territory, while India in in turn is announcing it thwarted a Pakistani drone and missile attack on its military.

The official Pakistani death toll after the Wednesday missile 'retaliatory' attacks on Punjab province and Pakistan-administered Kashmir yesterday is at least 31 killed and dozens more wounded. Heavy artillery fire across the Line of Control (LOC) has remained steady, but the kind of feared wider and out of control all-out war has yet to be sparked. Islamabad is now claiming to have killed scores of Indian troops.

On the other side, the last 48 hours of hostilities has resulted in at least 13 people killed in Indian-administered Kashmir, with others wounded due to Pakistani fire.

India's 'Operation Sindor' to avenge the 26 tourists killed last month's terror attack has been called an 'act of war' by Pakistani leaders. Islamabad has denied any involvement in supporting or harboring the gunmen, amid repeat Indian accusations.

As for the newest major Indian drone attack, it mainly targeted the second-largest city of Lahore, and India's government hailed that the operation successfully took out air defense radars at several locations. However, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif rejected this, saying there was no damage, amid an ongoing fog of war where it's hard for international observers to confirm much.

But as for a much bigger claim which has yet to be confirmed or substantiated, Al Jazeera reports that "Attaullah Tarar, the Pakistani information minister, has said the country’s armed forces have killed 40 to 50 Indian soldiers in the exchanges along the Line of Control dividing Indian- and Pakistan-administered Kashmir." The assertions were made before legislators in the National Assembly.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's latest words suggest New Delhi is still seeking to prevent escalation, claiming that all our air strikes were against "carefully selected terror targets" and that Indian drones and shelling have only hit sites connected to "incidents of cross-border terror in India and terrorist infrastructure."

And provocatively, he alleged that Pakistan has been "using religious sites as a cover to train terrorists" - which strongly suggests India's assaults on Pakistan-administered Kashmir will continue, given the presence of armed Islamist factions. Much of this was directed at rejecting Pakistan's claim that Indian air strikes have damaged the vital Neelam-Jhelum dam.

But the question of disinformation, and the motive for India's 'counterterror' strikes, have been called "domestic theater" by one regional analyst:

Yet as tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors escalate hour by hour, with Pakistan accusing India of launching a wave of drones into its territory on Thursday, military and geopolitical analysts question whether India’s approach serves as a deterrent against armed groups eager to target it. They argue that New Delhi’s actions are more symbolic and aimed at addressing its domestic audience rather than tactical advancement in the so-called “fight against terror”.

"This is all a domestic theatre," said Ajai Sahni, executive director of South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), a platform that tracks and analyses armed attacks in South Asia. "The Indian strikes [in Pakistan] have no deterrent value."

ROME — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently published a sharp letter excoriating the Vatican’s plans to renew an agreement with the Chinese government on Church operations in China. He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, “The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.”

An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

“Pompeo asked to meet” the pope, who turned him down because Francis had “clearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vatican’s second-ranking official, told reporters.

But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeo’s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the church’s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.

Francis and Mr. Trump, who have exchanged sharp words in the past, present starkly different visions on issues ranging from the environment to immigration to the threat of populism. In appealing to the Vatican’s support for religious freedom as a reason to drop its China agreement, Mr. Pompeo seemed to seek common ground, but in a way that upset the pope’s chief allies and delighted his chief critics.

Cardinal Parolin said Mr. Pompeo’s article had caused “surprise” at the Vatican, because this visit to Rome by the secretary and the meetings with high officials at the Holy See had already been in the works and would have been a “more opportune” forum for airing grievances. He added that Mr. Pompeo’s choice to publish in First Things, a conservative Christian magazine that has called Francis a failure as Pope, also mattered.
