Diddy Argues He Had “Mental Condition” That Caused Him To Commit Alleged Crimes.

Diddy is trying to recruit a doctor from Columbia University to testify on his behalf, but his prosecutors don’t really want to hear it. What’s the argument? Per legal documents viewed by TMZ , it’s essentially that the music mogul was inebriated while committing his alleged sexual assault crimes.

 

Overall, he and this doctor are trying to frame it as a “mental condition” and that it’s “bearing on the issue of guilt.” When the outlet was looking through the documents, the alleged issue is redacted. However, they were able to find some things that relate to this.

 

For example, prosecutors state that legal precedent commands the defense to give substantial notice prior to offering “evidence of the effects of drugs and alcohol on a defendant’s memory or cognitive function.” Moreover, there’s also statements in the papers that refer to the Columbia doctor’s possible testimony as proof that Diddy did have the “inability to control [his] behavior.”

 

But as we stated earlier, those arguing against the Bad Boy Records founder find this useless. One major reason is because this medical professional has no past appointments with Diddy. Overall, he would be trying to use other patients as evidence.

 

Obviously, everyone has different reactions to alcohol/drugs. So, applying other people’s experiences to Diddy’s situation don’t make much sense. At the time of writing, Judge Subramanian has yet to make a decision on this. However, time is of the essence.

 

The Metropolitan Detention Center resident is going on trial for his alleged trafficking and racketeering on May 5. That day will involve jury selection. After that is settled –which will likely take a few days– opening statement will begin. Diddy and his new lawyer, Brian Steel, were pushing for an extra two months to prepare. However, Judge Subramanian is quoted saying he didn’t want to grant them a “fishing expedition” to find any more information.

Bill Gates accuses Elon Musk of ‘killing’ children with USAIDFT’s

Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates ratcheted up his feud with Elon Musk, accusing the world’s richest man of “killing the world’s poorest children” through what he said were misguided cuts to US development assistance.

 

Gates, who is announcing a plan to accelerate his philanthropic giving over the next 20 years and close down the Gates Foundation altogether in 2045, said in an interview that the Tesla chief had acted through ignorance.

In February, Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) in effect shut down the US Agency for International Development, the main conduit for US aid, saying it was “time for it to die”.

The co-founder of Microsoft, and once the world’s richest man himself, said the abruptness of the cuts had left life-saving food and medicines expiring in warehouses and could cause the resurgence of diseases such as measles, HIV and polio.

 

“The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one,” he told the Financial Times.

 

Gates said Musk had cancelled grants to a hospital in Gaza Province, Mozambique, that prevents women transmitting HIV to their babies, in the mistaken belief that the US was supplying condoms to Hamas in Gaza in the Middle East. “I’d love for him to go in and meet the children that have now been infected with HIV because he cut that money,” he said.

 

Gates, 69, on Thursday announced plans to spend virtually his entire fortune over the next 20 years, during which time he estimates his foundation will spend more than $200bn on global health, development and education against $100bn over the previous 25 years. The Gates Foundation will close its doors in 2045, decades earlier than previously envisaged.

 

Gates said the rationale for accelerated spending was to have maximum impact, with the potential for finding once-and-for all solutions such as eradicating polio and curing HIV.

 

“It gives us clarity,” he said. “We’ll have a lot more money because we’re spending down over the 20 years, as opposed to making an effort to be a perpetual foundation.”

 

The foundation will continue to spend the bulk of its budget, which will rise to about $10bn a year, on global health, with vaccines, maternal and child health continuing to be a focus. But Gates said that private philanthropy could not make up the shortfall from the cuts to USAID, whose budget was $44bn last year.

 

Gates intends to pass on less than 1 per cent of his wealth to his children. He said he was a supporter of a strong estate tax to prevent “dynastic wealth” and of “much more progressive taxation”.

 

Critics have accused Gates of using his foundation’s charitable status as a tax shield and of parlaying his billions into undue influence on global health priorities.

 

In a letter outlining his decision, Gates said: “People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them. There are too many urgent problems to solve.”

 

Gates and Musk have clashed before over philanthropy. In 2012, Musk signed the Giving Pledge, launched by Bill and Melinda Gates and investor Warren Buffett, through which dozens of billionaires promised to give away at least half their wealth. But Musk later told Gates that philanthropy was mostly “bullshit” and that commercial solutions to problems like climate change, including Tesla’s electric vehicles, were more effective, according to Musk’s biographer Walter Isaacson.

 

Isaacson described Musk’s fury in 2022 on learning that Gates had shorted Tesla stock, calling him a hypocrite for trying to make money by undermining a company that was seeking to do good. In a comment at the time on Twitter, now X, Musk posted an unflattering photograph of Gates accompanied by the caption: “In case u need to lose a boner fast.”

 

Gates told the FT that Musk, who called USAID “a criminal organisation”, had no understanding of what the US agency did or how it operated. Musk in February acknowledged mistaking the Mozambican province of Gaza for the Palestinian territory, saying that “some of the things that I say will be incorrect”.

 

Gates has been more restrained in his criticism of Donald Trump, saying he may not have fully understood the impact of cuts and holding out the prospect that some could be reversed. The Gates Foundation is one of many that fear the US president might try to remove their tax-free status through an executive order.

 

Gates criticised Trump’s appointment of Robert F Kennedy Jr as secretary of health, saying that Kennedy had “attacked vaccines, and specifically my role . . . with a lot of falsehoods”.

 

But he reserved his sternest criticism for Musk, whose cuts he saidthreatened to undermine 25 years of Gates Foundation work.

A pledge to deport millions of undocumented immigrants helped propel President Donald Trump back to the White House.

 

"It's going to be called a Trump mass deportation," Trump said during a campaign rally on Aug. 12, 2024. "We will begin the largest deportation operation in American history."

 

He appointed a border czar, Tom Homan, to increase expulsions.

 

"I will run the biggest deportation operation the country has ever seen," said Homan, a week after Trump won the election.

 

The Trump administration has embraced a shock and awe approach to immigration enforcement designed for maximum publicity. The homeland security secretary has attended and posted video of early morning arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Trump has deployed more armed forces to the border and used military planes to ferry away immigrants. He has also sent alleged Venezuelan gang members to a terrorism prison in El Salvador before they could have a day in court.

 

But federal data shows there has not been a significant jump in immigrants deported since Trump took office. Mass deportations have not occurred. The numbers show removals are lagging behind levels during the Biden administration.

 

"Frankly I was shocked," said Sue Long, co-founder of the nonpartisan Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse that tracks immigration statistics at Syracuse University.

 

Early on the Trump administration touted the number of daily immigration arrests but has never shared detailed deportation figures.

 

Long was able to calculate recent deportation figures using a cumulative number deep inside a spreadsheet ICE is required by law to keep updated for Congress.

 

"They're lower," Long said. "Their daily average is simply 10 percent lower."

 

The White House told Scripps News that because border crossings are down, so are deportations. It is an argument Homan also makes.

 

"We're down border crossings 96 percent, so we don't have millions of people coming across the border," Homan told reporters at the White House. "Just to compare our removal numbers to (Biden's) is just ridiculous."

 

Homan also told the New York Times, "We need to increase the arrests … They're not high enough."

 

There are still an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country.

 

Homan says more funding from Congress would boost immigration enforcement efforts. Costs are high to arrange and transport individuals out of the U.S. to their home countries. Logistics are another challenge, as countries must agree to receive deported immigrants.

Sun unleashes jaw-dropping filament eruption — but Earth dodges the blast

A massive solar filament erupted today (May 7), producing a stunning display that spanned the sun's eastern limb and reached deep into the solar disk.

Filaments are cooler, dense ribbons of solar plasma that can hang suspended above the sun's surface by magnetic fields, according to NOAA.

When these become unstable, they can erupt dramatically, sometimes launching coronal mass ejections (CMEs) into space — powerful blasts of solar plasma and magnetic fields that can trigger geomagnetic storms here on Earth. However, in today's eruption, the filament was oriented away from Earth, meaning it will have no direct impact on our planet.

 

"The sun is doing just enough to show that it still has what it takes to produce activity while also dodging Earth at all costs," space weather forecaster Sara Housseal wrote in a post on X.

The image was captured in remarkable detail by NOAA's GOES-19 spacecraft using its extreme ultraviolet (EUV) telescope called the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (SUVI) between around 6:30 a.m. EDT and 9:50 a.m. EDT (1030 and 1350 GMT). SUVI watched as the eruptive prominence showcased the sun's dynamic behavior in incredible detail.

 

Although this eruption won't affect Earth, forecasters are still keeping a close eye on solar activity this week.

According to the UK Met Office, a combination of a weakening high-speed solar wind stream and possible glancing blows from previous CMEs could trigger auroras at high latitudes late Wednesday (May 7) or early Thursday (May 8), with another chance on Friday (May 9) when another high-speed solar wind stream is expected to strike.

 

Together, these space weather events could produce Minor Geomagnetic Storm (G1) conditions, meaning the aurora could become visible in northern parts of Canada, Alaska, Scandinavia, and other high-latitude regions.

Elon Musk is taking the long view.

The billionaire SpaceX founder has long said that humanity needs to expand its footprint out into the solar system — specifically to Mars, which is the most suitable and reachable target — so that we won't go extinct if something bad should happen to Earth.

 

That "if" only applies in the short term, however; over the very long haul, something bad will definitely happen.

The sun is getting brighter and hotter as it ages, and a few hundred million years from now, this increased energy influx will strip off Earth's atmosphere and boil our oceans away.

That will probably be the end for life as we know it. The coup de grace will come some five billion years from now, when our expanding red giant sun engulfs and incinerates poor little Earth.

 

Musk referenced this sorry fate in a recent interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, who asked the world's richest man why he's so fixated on the Red Planet.

"That's one of the benefits of Mars, is life insurance for life collectively," Musk told Watters in the interview, which Fox News aired yesterday (May 6).

"So, eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun. The sun is gradually expanding, and so we do at some point need to be a multiplanet civilization, because Earth will be incinerated."

 

Musk — who leads the Trump administration's cost- and regulation-cutting Department of Government Efficiency — estimated that we have about 450 million years "before it gets so hot that life is impossible."

That's a pretty long runway for SpaceX to complete the development and testing of Starship, the fully reusable megarocket that Musk thinks will make Mars settlement economically feasible.

 

Starship, the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built, has flown eight times to date and twice this year so far.

Both of the 2025 test missions, which launched in January and March, respectively, were partially successful.

Starship's huge first stage booster, Super Heavy, performed well, but the vehicle's Ship upper stage exploded less than 10 minutes into flight.

 

SpaceX is currently gearing up for Starship's next launch; the company has already test-fired the engines of the Super Heavy and Ship that will make Flight 9. But no target date has been announced.

These were among the opening remarks shared by Maj. Travis Pond, program manager for the Space Domain Awareness Tools, Applications and Processing Lab (SDA TAP Lab), to kick off the Lab’s Apollo Accelerator Cohort 6 Demo Day on Apr. 29, 2025.

“Today you’ll see what is possible within a single budget cycle and without a program of record,” Pond said. “Imagine what we could do if we were fully funded!”

 

The SDA TAP Lab was stood up in May 2023 under SSC’s Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power Program Executive Office.

Its mission is to accelerate the delivery of space battle management software to operational units through focused and facilitated collaboration with industry, academia, and government.

Priority is given to five adversary kill chains: GEO direct ascent anti-satellites, GEO co-orbital anti-satellites, LEO direct ascent anti-satellites, LEO co-orbital anti-satellites, and cyber-attacks.

 

Through the Apollo Accelerator, the TAP Lab assembles cohorts comprised of volunteers from government, industry, academia, Federally Funded Research Corporations, and military service branches to work in three-month innovation cycles.

Each cohort addresses specific, pre-determined “What if” statements with the ultimate aim of denying an adversary the advantage of surprise.

Participants within each cohort are given access to a sandbox with data, services, a software development environment, and the ability to host apps.

“What if” statements are broken down into individual engineering problem sets and worked on simultaneously.

 

“I think of it like a body shop,” said Maj. Sean Allen, SDA TAP Lab technical director.

“You guys all show up and you say, ‘Major Allen, I can build you an engine block, some bucket seats, a radio, a windshield, the frame, a chassis’ - all of a sudden I’ve got all these parts and pieces playing about in our body shop and they need to be assembled into a system.

What’s the right way to do that, and how quickly can you get there?”

 

In the case of Project Apollo, the answer is very quick. At the end of each three-month session, a demonstration day is held to promote government investment.

If a participating company has met minimum expectations, there are no security concerns, and they have successfully demonstrated a prototype solution to an operational problem, then pending availability of funds and feedback from key stakeholders the SDA TAP Lab either buys a subscription to the prototype software through the Global Data Marketplace or advocates for investment from other parts of the government.

 

"To date, over 100 companies have developed solutions to close gaps in kill chains,” Allen said. “More than 75 software subscriptions have been awarded.

Several capabilities have been deployed to classified platforms - and we are on track to showcase how it all works together in an automated way by the end of this calendar year."

 

April’s Demo Day showcased the work of the Apollo Accelerator’s 6th cohort, comprised of representatives from 81 organizations, companies, and academic institutions.

Approximately 250 people attended the event, including representatives from U.S. Space Command and Space Operations Command.

 

In addition, Maj. Allen previewed Welder’s Arc, a prototype threat-warning system developed by Apollo Accelerator Cohorts 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Welder’s Arc is a 100 percent commercial, multi-vendor solution with modular components. It is expected to support tactically responsive space efforts tentatively scheduled for this fall.

 

Welder’s Arc is just one example of the prototypes developed and delivered at unprecedented speed through the Apollo Accelerator.

Pond gave particular thanks to the first five Apollo cohorts, noting “your willingness to move fast, take chances, and join us in this endeavor makes the space domain, and the world, safer for you and your families, the United States, and our allies.”

 

Joining an Apollo Accelerator is a non-competitive process, but applicants must meet minimum criteria and apply through the SDA TAP Lab website.

They must clearly state which problem they intend to address and give a brief description of their intended solution.

Additionally, applicants must acknowledge in writing that they understand participation is voluntary and at their own expense and be willing to collaborate with other lab members.

 

Applications for Cohort 7 are currently closed. Those interested in Cohort 8 may monitor the SDA TAP Lab website for application sign-up dates.

Vice Chief of Space Operations Gen. Mike Guetlein was joined on a visit of the Grand Forks area by U.S. Senator for North Dakota Kevin Cramer April 21-22 to observe and learn about the missions and partnerships in the region critical to securing the nation’s interests in, from and to space.

 

During the first day of their visit, Cramer and Guetlein toured the University of North Dakota, where they were escorted through the UND College of Engineering and Mines and John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences.

Space Development Agency Director Dr. Derek Tournear accompanied the visit.

 

They were briefed throughout the tour about space studies, aerospace sciences and research and economic development.

UND holds partnerships with both the U.S. Air Force and Space Force, allowing for civilian and military members the opportunity to work towards space development together.

 

“Space underpins the future of our military and our American way of life,” Guetlein said.

“The Space Force prioritizes partnerships with academic institutions that share our vision to protect the space environment for generations to come.”

 

On the second day of his visit, Guetlein was greeted by Col. Bishane Whitmore, 319th Reconnaissance Wing deputy commander.

The visit marked the beginning of a tour that emphasized the collaboration between Air Force and Space Force missions in the region.

 

He traveled to Cavalier Space Force Base, where he engaged with the 10th Space Warning Squadron.

His visit included briefings on missile warning operations and space domain awareness capabilities, two integral functions of the Space Force’s core mission of space superiority.

 

Cramer and Tournear joined Guetlein at Cavalier SFB, where they received firsthand demonstrations of the station’s radar and detection systems.

Briefings highlighted both the strengths and areas for continued improvement in the current infrastructure, including upcoming plans for modernization through updated software and hardware.

 

“As the Space Force continues to develop into a warfighting service focused on the space domain, it’s important that we stay ahead of the threat through innovation and modernization,” Guetlein said.

“One thing we will always rely on is our dedicated workforce. I continue to be impressed and inspired by the professionalism and readiness of the Guardians, Airmen and civilians performing these important missions.”

 

Guetlein also presented several coins to recognize high-performing personnel and met with Airmen from the 319th Security Forces Squadron, expressing gratitude for their unwavering dedication to base security.

The group then returned to Grand Forks AFB, where they received additional briefings on how the 319th Reconnaissance Wing supports the Space Development Agency.

 

“The buildup of ground-based capabilities at Grand Forks Air Force Base and the warfighting support offered by Cavalier Space Force Station are critical to our national security and security around the world,” Cramer said.

“The University of North Dakota’s ability to educate students and prepare them for these rewarding jobs in the military, and to support our military, are really another competitive advantage our state has when it comes to attracting cutting-edge defense projects.

Dr. Tournear and General Guetlein’s firsthand look at these evolving assets, and staying up with them, really keeps our capabilities in focus.”

 

The visit concluded with the group touring SDA’s Operations Center North for a hands-on experience with their operations staff.

Col. Timothy Monroe, 319th Reconnaissance Wing commander, saw Cramer and Guetlein off as they departed from Grand Forks AFB, wishing them farewell and thanking them for their visit.

Fernley, NV man charged with kidnapping 3 juveniles

A Fernley man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly holding three juveniles in a crawl space, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Guillermo Aboytes Saavedra was booked into the Lyon County jail on multiple charges, including kidnapping, with a bail of $972,500.

 

Tuesday at 8:15 p.m., Fernley deputies responded to the 200 block of Johnson Lane.

The reporting party said her brother was receiving text threats. She was able to track the phone belonging to her juvenile brother.

Near this time, Lyon County dispatch began receiving phone calls from the juvenile who said he was in a basement with two other juveniles, and that the suspect had beaten them, LCSO said in a news release.

 

Arriving in the area of the phone’s ping, deputies made contact with Saavedra, who was known to law enforcement and immediately detained.

Shortly after that, deputies entered the backyard of the residence where Saavedra was contacted and where the juvenile’s phone was pinging, and discovered three male juveniles held captive in the crawl space of the residence, the release said.

 

Two of the juveniles had received substantial injuries from Saavedra striking them repeatedly with wooden tools.

The juveniles reported that Saavedra had taken one of the juvenile’s phones and threatened to kill him.

The juveniles were provided medical attention and returned to their families. There is no threat to the public at this time, the release said.

 

Saavedra faces the following charges:

• Robbery with a deadly weapon;

• Kidnapping;

• Kidnapping with substantial bodily harm (2);

• False imprisonment;

• False imprisonment resulting in substantial bodily harm (2);

• Child abuse (3);

• Battery with a weapon resulting in substantial bodily injury (2).

For the Left, Power Isn’t a Tool, It’s the Goal 1/2

When I was about nine years old, my Irish Setter loved to chase the UPS delivery truck. We could never figure out why he wanted to chase it. And we joked about what he would do if he caught it. Then it happened. He caught the truck. Or maybe the truck caught him. Either way, the result wasn’t pretty, and we were left with a major mess to clean up.

 

For years, that old question had me baffled as I watched the Democrat party lurch farther and farther left. “What are they trying to achieve?” “What do they want to do with this power?” Then I stumbled across a meme that swept all the mystery away. “=Power isn’t the means to an end. Power IS the end.”

Say again? While there are legal arguments that various of Trump’s actions may be contrary to the law, those haven’t yet been adjudicated. So far, through all of his first term and his first 100 days, there is no legal determination that he has acted contrary to the rulings of any court, including that of James Boasberg, who continues to issue orders after the Supreme Court stripped him of any claim to jurisdiction.

 

“Violated separation of powers?” The massive number of nationwide injunctions from left-leaning courts has attempted to micromanage the Executive, an area over which the courts have no proper authority.

 

“Placed personal power and self-interest above public service?” This is a place where we must suggest that the Congressman submit to an EEG to prove he’s not brain-dead. Trump serves without pay, and in his first term, he lost billions in personal wealth. He willingly suffered a host of bogus prosecutions to return to the Oval Office and works tirelessly (not fights, works) to pare the Swamp down to unleash freedom in America.

 

By way of contrast, numerous CongressCritters entered office as relative paupers and are now multimillionaires. How you do that in a high-rent district like DC,where your salary is only upper middle class, is beyond the understanding of mere mortals educated in mathematics. AOC has somehow used her position to accumulate a net worth in the neighborhood of $2 million. Longer tenured residents of the Capitol have become far wealthier.

 

 

Let’s say that again. The Left worships power, and it never considers what it would do with the power it covets. Before you get all worked up in a lather over my lack of mental faculties, please consider what mental faculties the core Left demonstrates. Congressman Shri Thanedar announced articles of impeachment against President Trump, claiming that, “His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service.”

 

One of the somewhat obvious methods that these people use is insider trading. Yes, they write the statutes so they don’t run afoul of the law, but in fact, the favors that lead to much of their profit certainly cross the line of what the law is supposedly intended to prohibit. Others fund travel through various government programs to NGOs that are run by family members.

Many, perhaps best exemplified by Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer, are well off and approaching the moment when they will assume room temperature. While the Turtle has announced he will not run again, Chucky is hell-bent-for-leather that he will remain in his position of power until we pry his cold, dead fingers off the Democrat caucus gavel.

 

Consider Airhead-Cortez. She sees weakness at the top of the DemonRats in the Senate and is almost certainly planning a primary challenge to steal control of Schumer’s seat. Broadening our view, we see that a large volume of the political class exists for the sole purpose of advancing up the ladder without regard for the “general welfare” of America.

 

The repetitive query of “What has XXXX done for you in Congress?” with particular emphasis on the Democrat party, shows this in spades. Very few CongressCritters seem to actually work for us. MTG, Jim Jordan, and Ron Johnson are conspicuous exceptions. The Democrats march in lockstep, and I can’t name a single one who actually works to improve America.

 

The obvious question must be, “Now that they’ve caught the delivery truck, what do they want to do with it?” And that takes us to the manifold actions of the deep state, empowered by the Creature from the Dark Lagoon that is Congress. There are three salient actions they have taken.

 

First, they have created numerous ways to enrich themselves and their friends with money stolen from hard-working Americans.

 

Second, some of this money “walks around” to various Democrat election officials to create phony voters (see here and here) that can be “voted” to keep Democrats in power. In 2020, New York City had 254,713 “voters” participate who didn’t show up in state-level records.

 

I suppose this shouldn’t be a surprise in a state that has over 2 million phony names on the voting rolls. Is it any surprise that a Republican elected official in New York is an anomaly? What about Illinois, Arizona, and California? Alexander Pacquette has identified this same sort of fraud in every state. Since it universally favors Democrats (they’re the ones who “vote” the fraudulent ballots), if the rolls were truly cleaned up, we’d have Republican supermajorities everywhere.

 

Third, we must look at the border. I used to cringe when I heard conservative radio hosts talk about Democrats importing voters. Now that we see locales flaunting non-citizen voting, one aspect becomes clear: Dems wereimporting Dem voters.

 

But the bigger fraud is the census. Dems were able to prevent Trump from excluding non-citizens from the census. This clearly added Dem seats in the House from California, New York, and the like, stealing them from Texas and Florida.

 

Virtually every action I see from the Left is aimed at preserving power. But they seem to be utterly oblivious to the secondary effects of their actions. The flood of illegal aliens that arrived under Biden created massive costs for sanctuary polities. But that’s OK. Just print more money and shovel it out from the Treasury to pay for them.

 

When illegals commit new crimes while out of jail awaiting trial, it’s no big deal. “They aren’t doing it in my gated community.”

 

If we ban guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens, defenseless citizens will die. But those bitter clingers wouldn’t vote Democrat anyway. And with the government the only armed party, control is ours.

 

As I considered the examples for this missive, I found them too numerous to count.It’s more than clear that the Left worships power but is utterly unconcerned with the effects of that power on us. As long as they are somewhere near the center of power, they will be protected, and we will pay the price. But, of course, we don’t accept their worldview, so we are evil and must be destroyed.

 

It’s time for us to clean up the mess.

Ukrainian cross border incursions thwarted during Victory Day truce – Russia

Two attempts by Ukrainian forces to cross the border into Russia’s Kursk Region have been thwarted, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

Kiev’s troops tried to carry out the incursions despite Russian President Vladimir Putin announcing a 72-hour Victory Day ceasefire from midnight on May 7-8 to midnight on May 10-11, the ministry noted in a statement on Thursday.

 

Another major Ukrainian assault on Russian positions took place near the town of Dzerzhinsk (known as Toretsk in Ukraine), the statement read.

Since the start of the declared truce period, Kiev’s forces have attacked a total of 488 times, including 173 artillery, tank and mortar attacks, four uses of multiple rocket launchers and some 300 strikes by FPV drones, it added.

 

“The deliberate destructive actions of the Ukrainian side against Russia confirm the desire of the Kiev regime to prevent a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine conflict,” the ministry stressed.

After midnight, the Russian forces completely ceased hostilities and remained at the previously occupied lines and positions in accordance with the order by the president, the statement read.

“The Russian military strictly observes the ceasefire. In particular, no strikes are being carried out by aircraft, missile forces, artillery, and drones,” it stressed.

The country’s troops are only providing a “tit-for-tat reaction” to violations of the truce by Ukraine, the ministry added.

 

When announcing the ceasefire last week, Putin described it as a humanitarian gesture to mark the 80th anniversary of Soviet victory over Nazi Germany that could also serve as a catalyst for “the start of direct negotiations with Kiev without preconditions.”

However, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has declined to support it, calling it a Russian ploy and an “attempt at manipulation.”

Instead, Kiev has ramped up drone strikes on Russian territory, with the Defense Ministry reporting a record 524 UAVs being shot down on Wednesday.

Moscow insisted that it would stick to its decision to introduce a Victory Day truce despite provocations by Kiev.

Trump Just Pulled His Controversial Prosecutor Pick

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he is pulling Ed Martin’s nomination for the top federal prosecutor for the District of Columbia.

 

Martin’s nomination was fraught with controversy over his support for J6 defendants and a myriad of other matters. Several senators, most notably Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), signaled they would not vote to confirm him, citing his support for those the government railroaded over the riot at the US Capitol building.

 

“He’s a terrific person, and he wasn’t getting the support,” Trump said, according to CNBC.

 

“I have to be straight. I was disappointed,” the president added.

 

The president further stated that “A lot of people were disappointed, but that’s the way it works.”

 

“I can only lift that little phone so many times in a day, but we have somebody else that will be great,” Trump stated.

 

Martin will still have a role in the Trump administration. Trump suggested he would land somehwere in the Justice Department.

India and Pakistan trade fire and accusations as fears of a wider military confrontation rise

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — India fired attack drones into Pakistan on Thursday, killing at least two civilians, the Pakistani military said. India, meanwhile, accused its neighbor of attempting its own attack, as tensions soared between the nuclear-armed rivals.

India acknowledged that it targeted Pakistan’s air defense system, and Islamabad said it shot down several of the drones. India said it “neutralized” Pakistan’s attempts to hit military targets. It was not possible to verify all of the claims.

The exchanges came a day after Indian missiles struck several locations in Pakistan, killing 31 civilians, according to Pakistani officials.

New Delhi said it was retaliating after gunmen killed more than two dozen people, mostly Hindu tourists, in India-controlled Kashmir last month. India accused Pakistan of being behind the assault. Islamabad denies that.

 

Both sides have also traded heavy fire across their frontier in disputed Kashmir, and Pakistan claimed it killed scores of Indian soldiers. There was no confirmation from India.

Late Thursday in Indian-controlled Kashmir, residents of the city of Jammu reported hearing explosions and sirens.

Shesh Paul Vaid, the region’s former director-general of police, said there was a complete blackout in Jammu following loud blasts.

Vaid told The Associated Press that the Jammu Airport likely was under attack and that some of the 50 loud explosions he heard likely were because “our defense system is at work.”

 

Indian officials did not immediately comment. Jammu is close to the Line of Control, the de factor border that divides the Kashmir region between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vowed to avenge the deaths in India’s missile strikes, raising fears that the two countries could be headed toward another all-out conflict.

Leaders from both nations face mounting public pressure to show strength and seek revenge, and the heated rhetoric and competing claims could be a response to that pressure.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke Thursday to the Pakistani prime minister and India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, urging both sides to de-escalate the situation, the U.S. State Department said.

 

The relationship between countries has been shaped by conflict and mutual suspicion, most notably in their dispute over Kashmir.

They have fought two of their three wars over the Himalayan region, which is split between them and claimed by both in its entirety.

 

With tensions high, India evacuated thousands of people from villages near the highly militarized frontier in the region. Tens of thousands of people slept in shelters overnight, officials and residents said Thursday.

About 2,000 villagers also fled their homes in Pakistani-administered Kashmir. Mohammad Iftikhar boarded a vehicle with his family on Thursday as heavy rain lashed the region.

“I am helplessly leaving my home for the safety of my children and wife,” he said.

 

India fires drones at Pakistan

India fired several Israeli-made Harop drones at Pakistan overnight and into Thursday afternoon, according to Pakistani army spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif, who said 29 were shot down.

Two civilian were killed and another wounded when debris from a downed drone fell in Sindh province.

One drone damaged a military site near the city of Lahore and wounded four soldiers, and another fell in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, near the capital, according to Sharif.

“The armed forces are neutralizing them as we speak,” he told state-run Pakistan Television.

Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar told parliament that so far Pakistan has not responded to India’s missiles attacks, but there will be one.

Later Thursday, Indian authorities ordered a night-time blackout in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, which borders with Pakistan.

 

The Harop drone, produced by Israel’s IAI, is one of several in India’s inventory, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ Military Balance report.

According to IAI, the Harop combines the capabilities of a drone and a missile and can operate at long ranges.

 

The two sides have also exchanged heavy fire over the past day.

Tarar said that the country’s armed forces have killed 40 to 50 Indian soldiers in the exchanges along the Line of Control. India has not commented on that claim.

Earlier, the army said one Indian soldier was killed by shelling Wednesday.

 

Sikh Temple in Kashmir

Tarar denied Indian accusations that Pakistan had fired missiles toward the Indian city of Amritsar, saying in fact an Indian drone fell in the city. Neither claim could be confirmed.

India’s Foreign Ministry has said that 16 civilians were killed Wednesday during exchanges of fire across the de facto border.

Pakistani officials said six people have been killed near highly militarized frontier in exchanges of fire over the past day.

 

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri denied that New Delhi has targeted civilians and a key dam, as Pakistan has alleged.

He, in turn, accused Pakistani forces of targeting civilians, including at a Sikh Temple in Kashmir, where he said three Sikhs were killed.

Flights remained suspended at over two dozen airports across northern and western regions in India, according to travel advisories by multiple airlines.

Pakistan resumed flights nationwide after a suspension at four airports, according to the Civil Aviation Authority.

A bishop appointed last year to the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops allowed in 2000 a priest who sexually abused minors to live in a Chicago rectory around the corner from a Catholic school — in a residence Cardinal Blase Cupich later said was not appropriate for priests accused of abuse.

 

The Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops is charged with overseeing investigations into bishops accused of negligence, cover-ups, or improperly handling clerical sexual abuse allegations.

 

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Feb. 26 that in September 2000, Fr. James Ray was permitted to live at St. John Stone Friary, a house of the Chicago province of the Augustinian religious order. The friary is half a block from a parish elementary school.

 

According to diocesan records, the move required approval by now-Bishop Robert Prevost, who was then an Augustinian provincial superior.

 

Prevost, now a diocesan bishop in Peru, was received in a private audience by Pope Francis last month. He is widely reported to be a likely candidate for a senior position in Rome, or for a major archdiocese in the United States, in a slate of personnel changes expected from the pope in coming months.

 

Approving the move to a friary in close proximity to a Catholic school is not a violation of canon law. But similar moves have been criticized by victims’ advocates in recent years, while they might once have raised few red flags among Church leaders.

 

And a public apology from Cardinal Cupich after a very similar situation in 2018 indicates the significant shift over recent decades in Church practice, public awareness, and internal expectations regarding the Church’s handling of clerical sexual abusers.

 

According to diocesan records reviewed by The Pillar, Ray had been restricted in ministry for nine years by 2000, and had been accused multiple times of sexually abusing boys, at least one of them for years. He had admitted to bringing at least one boy to sleep in his rectory bed, but said of one allegation that he “did not recall” having sexually assaulted a child with whom he admitted to having “cuddled.” Ray did admit to diocesan officials that in 1993 he engaged in sexual activity with a man while on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, a supposed Marian apparition site in Croatia.

 

A July 2000 memo from a Chicago archdiocesan official indicates that the Augustinians at the friary said they would permit Ray to rent rooms in the building after they received permission from their provincial superior, Prevost. Ray actually moved in two months later.

 

The friary was the second choice of a residence for Ray, who was required to move in 2000 because of the pending sale of the diocesan property where he had been living under supervision. The first rectory proposed for his residence was rejected by the archdiocesan review board because it was on the same property as a parish school.

 

Archdiocesan records say the Augustinian residence was considered suitable for Ray because “there is no school in the immediate area.”

 

In fact, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic elementary school is less than a block from the residence. But there is no record that archdiocesan officials who visited the site or Augustinian leaders raised that as a concern, even though a Catholic school principal had warned the archdiocese years earlier that Ray sometimes took children out of class, and that he was “touchytender” with some students.

Scientists have released the first X-ray images of a mysterious, sphere-shaped object recovered in Colombia, which locals claim is of alien origin.

The so-called 'UFO' was spotted in March over the town of Buga, zig-zagging through the sky in a way that defies the movement of conventional aircraft.

The object was recovered shortly after it landed and has since been analyzed by scientists, who discovered it features three layers of metal-like material and 18 microspheres surrounding a central nucleus they are calling 'a chip.'

 

Dr Jose Luis Velazquez, a radiologist who examined the sphere, reported finding 'no welds or joints,' which would typically indicate human fabrication.

He and his team concluded: 'It is of artificial origin, in that it shows no evidence of welding, and its internal structure is composed of high-density elements. More testing is needed to establish its origin.'

The sphere also displays symbols that the team compared to ancient scripts, including runes, Ogham and Mesopotamian writing systems.

 

Using AI to assist in deciphering the design, the team interpreted the message to read: 'The origin of birth through union and energy in the cycle of transformation, meeting point of unity, expansion, and consciousness—individual consciousness.'

'We interpret it as a message to humanity, encouraging a collective shift in consciousness to help Mother Earth—especially considering the current issues with pollution and environmental decline,' the researchers said.

The object was recovered on March 2 by a group of people, who said it weighed about four and a half pounds and had 'the temperature of a refrigerator' when touched.

 

David Velez el Potro, one of the individuals who recovered the object, recently spoke on Maussan Television hosted by journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan, whose research has stirred controversy for nearly a decade.

Maussan gained attention in 2017 when he claimed to have discovered alien mummies in Peru—findings that remain unconfirmed.

But Velez el Potro has claimed that the sphere is authentic, found in the woods of Buga. He told Maussan that the man who found it, Jose, felt sick for days after touching the object.

The Republican-led House passed a bill Thursday that would rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and direct federal agencies to update their documents and maps to incorporate the new name.

 

President Donald Trump already signed an executive order during his first day in office to rename the Gulf. House Republicans are looking to show their support, though it is unclear whether he Senate will go along. The bill passed by a vote of 211-206.

 

"President Trump's America First agenda puts our country first in every way. Today, the House voted to permanently rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. I want to thank Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for leading the charge on this legislation. This is one of the many steps House Republicans are taking to codify President Trump’s agenda into law, and there is much more to come," Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in a statement.

 

The body of water has shared borders between the United States and Mexico. Trump’s order only carries authority within the U.S. Mexico, as well as other countries and international bodies, do not have to recognize the name change.

 

Democrats said the vote demonstrated that Republicans are not focusing on the priorities of most Americans. New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the House's top Democrat, asked Democrats to vote against this "silly, small-minded and sycophantic piece of legislation."

 

"It's easy to mock this legislation because it’s so inane and embarrassing — and we have," said Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Pa. "But it's very existence and the fact that House Republicans have chosen to waste time and taxpayer dollars to bring it up for a vote, is worth considering."

 

Republicans said the nomenclature of the Gulf extended back to a time before the U.S. existed and when Spanish influence over Central American and the Caribbean was at its zenith. But now, it is the U.S. that dominates economic activity in the Gulf.

 

"In short, this legislation recognizes the strategic influence America has over this geography, not to mention the existing economic, cultural, and commercial might that we passively exert on the Gulf," said Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C.

 

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a Trump ally and an influential voice in the Republican conference.

 

"The Gulf of America is one of the most important things we can do this Congress," Greene said, adding that it promotes pride in the country.

 

The Gulf of Mexico has carried that name for more than 400 years. The Associated Press refers to it by its original name while acknowledging the new name Trump has chosen. The White House moved in February to block the AP from being among the small group of journalists to cover Trump in the Oval Office or aboard Air Force One, with sporadic ability to cover him at events in the East Room.

 

The AP sued three Trump administration officials over access to presidential events, citing freedom of speech in asking a federal judge to stop the blocking of its journalists.

 

A federal judge ordered the White House last month to restore The AP's full access to cover presidential events, affirming on First Amendment grounds that the government cannot punish the news organization for the content of its speech.

 

The GOP leadership in the House promoted the legislation during a news conference earlier in the week.

 

"The American people are footing the bill to protect and secure the Gulf of America. It’s only right that it’s named appropriately," said House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain of Michigan.

 

Several Democrats spoke out against the bill on the House floor.

President Donald Trump's Energy Department reportedly canceled a $4.5 million contract that the Biden administration awarded to develop a new agency website and logo.

 

Under then-President Joe Biden in March 2023, the Energy Department awarded a contract to the Native American firm Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs (CNSP) for the stated purpose of "rebranding" the agency, the Washington Free Beacon reported Wednesday.

 

However, by late last year, CNSP had made no progress on the website redesign and only delivered a logo, which was scrapped shortly after Trump took office.

 

The Free Beacon reported the Biden administration paid out about $2.3 million of the contract to CNSP and transferred the rest of the contract to a separate IT services firm.

 

CNSP outsourced the project to two subcontractors. Staffing firm Insight Global received $90,469 to hire a user experience designer, training specialist, and developer, and advertising agency Lempugh, Inc., received nearly $2 million to oversee the rebranding.

 

Earlier this year, the department ended two million-dollar green energy grants the Biden administration awarded to the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), the Free Beacon reported. RMI is a left-wing climate think tank that has pushed for heavy restrictions on gas stoves.

 

The Trump administration's decision to cancel the CNSP contract is part of a larger initiative to reduce wasteful government spending.

 

"Energy is not a political issue—it is national security. At the Department of Energy, we're driven by innovation, not ideology, to power America's future," the department posted Wednesday on X.

 

Trump's fiscal year 2026 budget proposal, released Friday, seeks to cut $19.3 billion from the Energy Department's budget by making deep cuts to Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Utility Dive reported.

 

On Friday, Energy Secretary Chris Wright issued a statement concerning the budget proposal.

 

"This is a consequential moment in American history—thanks to President Trump's leadership, the Energy Department has an opportunity to help the nation restore energy dominance, lead the world in innovation, and modernize our nuclear weapons stockpiles," Wright said. Ordained in 1982, Leo received a doctorate in canon law in Rome at the Pontifical College of St. Thomas Aquinas. It is amazing how we are constantly attacked. Walked dog in back yard at 10:30, everything normal. At 2:00, I had a swarm of fully grown termites adult size swarming outside our window, hundreds, 75% of them at least and inch and a half long; how is that possible? It isn't. I have always complained about larva being put in my driveway and patio. These people never stop. I have also noticed another pattern; they even put syrup or other sugary liquids at the end of the driveway to attract black black nats. No victory for us, just constant targeting.
