Liverpool parade warning after 17 people injured in celebrations

 

People have been warned against the use of flares at today's Liverpool FC victory parade after 17 people were injured by the pyrotechnics during yesterday's celebrations.

 

Red smoke filled the city yesterday as eager Liverpool FC fans celebrated the final matchday of the Premier League season, when Liverpool FC were crowned champions at Anfield after playing Crystal Palace.

 

Today, as the victory parade is due to march from Allerton at 2.30pm, Merseyside Police said: "We are continuing to urge people to not use flares or drones during todayโ€™s LFC victory parade.

 

"Yesterday, Sunday 25 May, there was reports of 17 people, including one police officer, being injured as a result of flares ahead of the final LFC game at Anfield.

A car which hit crowds of people at Liverpoolโ€™s victory parade followed an ambulance through a roadblock. In an update, Merseyside Police said 65 people were injured in yesterday's incident in the city centre. A man from the West Derby area of the city has been arrested and remains in custody. Merseyside Police said a Ford Galaxy car was able to follow an ambulance onto Water Street, with ambulance crews en route to attend to a member of the public who was believed to be having a heart attack.

Fairmount Park shooting update: 2 killed, 9 hurt

 

Two people are dead and nine others are hurt after a mass shooting at a Memorial Day gathering in Fairmount Park. A man and woman were killed in a mass shooting on Lemon Hill Drive. The shooting happened around 10:30 P.M. ET. Mayor Cherelle Parker gave an emotional speech following the shooting. Parker told reporters, "we need to ensure those responsible will be held accountable."
