[The Democrats are currently pushing Rahm Emanuel in the media as the Presidential candidate for 2028. Elias Rodriguez, the man who just killed two Israelis in DC previously protested outside Emanuel's house in Chicago. "He also was photographed participating in a protest in 2017 at the home of Rahm Emanuel, then the mayor of Chicago, organized by the social justice group Answer Chicago…" https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/05/22/us/israel-embassy-shooting-dc]

“Rahmbo” and “the First Jewish President”

NOVEMBER 13, 2008 BY MELVIN KONNER

The appointment of Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff lays to rest, for now, my concerns about Obama’s future support of Israel.

Emanuel is practically an Israeli himself. His father is a pediatrician who fought in the extremist group Irgun during Israel’s war for independence. (The father made a remark in an interview with The Jerusalem Post the other day showing that he has not gotten over his anti-Arab bigotry, and the Arab-American Anti-Defamation League has properly criticized him, but that is not something the son can do much about.)

There’s no doubt of his deep Israeli roots and strong Jewish commitments. His father took their family name from a fallen Jewish fighter killed by Arabs, and took Rahm’s first name from a slain Jewish extremist. Rahm had part of his elementary education in a Jewish day school, and he sends his kids to a day school today. They belong to a Modern Orthodox shul in Chicago whose rabbi says they are “a very involved Jewish family.” On Rosh Hashanah this year Emanuel supposedly asked the rabbi for permission before he stepped out of shul to take a conference call in the middle of the financial meltdown. On religious grounds that I have discussed (“Because of the Jewish Holiday”), he got the dispensation.

He had dual citizenship but relinquished his Israeli nationality at age 18, presumably to avoid army service. But during the 1991 Gulf War, as Israel was subjected to Saddam Hussein’s missiles, Rahm was volunteering on an IDF army base repairing truck brakes. Most importantly, he has the political track record that his boss lacks: not just saying the right things about Israel but voting for them and fighting for them again and again.

Rahm is a little scary. He once shouted out a list of his political enemies, brandishing a huge knife, yelling “Dead!” after each name while repeatedly stabbing the tabletop. I wouldn’t want him over for dinner, even for noodles with only chopsticks lying by. He’s not my kind of dinner companion. He’s a noisy and openly nasty version of Karl Rove. He’s a brilliant political strategist with a take-no-prisoners style, and he’s a complete sonofabitch. But he’s our sonofabitch, and by that I mean the Jews’ and the Democrats’.

[Examining the choice of Rahm Emanuel as 2028 Democrat Presidential candidate.]

Amid Omar row, Rahm Emanuel says he has been accused of dual loyalty

March 2019

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of crossing the line with anti-Semitic remarks in “casting Jewish Americans as the other,” saying he himself had been the victim of dual loyalty accusations.

Omar, he wrote in The Atlantic, “is suggesting a dual loyalty that calls our devotion to America into question” over support for Israel.

Emanuel, the first Jewish mayor of Chicago and like Omar a Democrat, said he is “sensitive” to the charge of dual loyalty because he has been accused of being a citizen of Israel (his father immigrated to the United States from Israel) and he had to make public his US birth certificate during his first campaign for Congress “to disprove false assertions about my background and loyalties.”

He said questions of dual loyalty have dogged Jews around the world for centuries.

“In embracing it, Omar is associating herself with calamities from the Spanish Inquisition to the Russian pogroms, to the Holocaust. That’s not historical company that any American should want to keep,” he wrote.

Is Rahm Emanuel running for president? It looks like it

Mar 13, 2025

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is laying the groundwork for a potential presidential run in 2028, leveraging his extensive political experience and a newly sharpened focus on education to position himself as a centrist Democrat ready to take on Trumpism, according to an in-depth profile by Politico Magazine published Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Since returning from his role as US ambassador to Japan in January, Emanuel has wasted no time re-entering the domestic political fray, appearing on podcasts, securing a CNN contract, and penning regular columns for The Washington Post, all while testing a campaign message centered on America's educational crisis.

Emanuel was born to Israeli parents who had moved to Chicago. His father fought in the Irgun, an Israeli paramilitary organization in pre-state Israel that helped fight the British to gain independence.

Emanuel's recent moves suggest a deliberate strategy to remain in the public eye, despite not holding elected office for over a decade, Politico Magazine reports. "I've only been back two months, I have no idea what I'm doing," Emanuel told the outlet, before adding, "I'm not done with public service and I'm hoping public service is not done with me." Yet his actions speak louder than his words: he's hitting the lecture circuit, from the Realtors to the Chicago Economic Club, and plans to address West Point later this month, signaling an intent to connect with diverse audienceswhile avoiding liberal strongholds like Ivy League campuses.

Rahm Emanuel Is a Terrible Dancer After All

When I started grad school at Sarah Lawrence College, truly the start of any terrible story, Rahm Emanuel just been named Chair of the House Democratic Caucus following a successful stint at the DCCC. At the time, Rahm wasn’t nearly as famous as his brother Ari, upon whom a television character had been based in HBO’s all-male version of Sex and the City. But on the verdant campus grounds of the Scary Larry, Rahm was better known; he embodied liberal politics and sported a swagger that few Democrats in the Bush era could pull off. He was also a famous alum of the school, having famously majored in dance.

Flash forward half a dozen years, Rahm has served as President Obama’s first White House Chief of Staff, where he distinguished himself by confronting congressmen while naked in the locker room of the congressional gym, before being electing the first Jewish mayor of Chicago. (In an act of mercy, Entourage is off the air.)

His first term has had its share of ups and downs, but perhaps none more hypnotic than Emanuel cutting the rug at the Taste of Chicago Festival last week. Below is a (very amateur) video of an unsuspecting Rahm slowly building into the groove as Robin Thicke performs his terrible-but–undeniably-listenable summer jam “Blurred Lines.
