Tech billionaire Elon Musk, a major ally of US President Donald Trump, has been consuming an alarming amount of drugs, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. The report came out shortly after Musk announced that he would step down from the leadership role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a task force aimed at cutting wasteful government spending.

Although the CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and X had admitted in the past to taking ketamine prescribed for depression about every two weeks, the Times wrote that he has “developed a far more serious habit” as his drug consumption “went well beyond occasional use.”

The Times cited its sources as saying that Musk had been using ketamine “often, sometimes daily,” and mixing it with other drugs, as well as taking Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms.

The businessman reportedly traveled with a daily medication box that held about 20 pills, including ones marked as Adderall, a stimulant used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He has also been warned in advance about random drug tests of SpaceX employees, the Times said.

In 2018, the Times reported that some board members at Tesla were worried about his use of the sleep drug Ambien. The Wall Street Journal reported last year that senior executives at SpaceX and Tesla were also concerned about Musk’s consumption of drugs, including LSD and cocaine.

Musk dodged a reporter’s question about his alleged drug use at a press conference with Trump at the Oval Office on Friday, dismissing the Times as “the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on Russiagate.” He said in 2024 that “not even trace quantities were found of any drugs or alcohol” in his system over the three years of tests at SpaceX.

Musk said that his departure is “not the end of DOGE,” whose team will grow over time. “I will continue to be visiting here and be a friend and adviser to the president,” Musk said at the White House.

The company has received more than $113 million in federal government spending since Mr. Trump took office, according to public records, including additional funds from existing contracts as well as new contracts with the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon. (This does not include a $795 million contract that the Department of Defense awarded the company last week, which has not been spent.)

Representatives of Palantir are also speaking to at least two other agencies — the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service — about buying its technology, according to six government officials and Palantir employees with knowledge of the discussions.

The push has put a key Palantir product called Foundry into at least four federal agencies, including D.H.S. and the Health and Human Services Department. Widely adopting Foundry, which organizes and analyzes data, paves the way for Mr. Trump to easily merge information from different agencies, the government officials said.

Creating detailed portraits of Americans based on government data is not just a pipe dream. The Trump administration has already sought access to hundreds of data points on citizens and others through government databases.

Man arrested after 'car collides with number of pedestrians' in Leicester

A man has been arrested after reports that a car collided with a number of pedestrians in Leicester, police say.

Two men and two women have been injured following the incident in De Montfort Street shortly after 12.30am on Saturday.

The incident happened following a report of a fight at the same location, Leicestershire Police said.

Three of those hurt are in hospital with serious injuries, while one man had minor injuries.

Police have said it is understood that the suspect and the four injured people had all been in attendance at a private event nearby prior to the collision.

A 31-year-old man, from Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision.

He remains in police custody where he is being questioned by detectives.

The car believed to have been involved in the incident was found in nearby Margaret Street and has been recovered as part of the investigation.

SAN ANTONIO – An investigation is now underway after a special education teacher at Pease Middle School “inadvertently brought several cans of Hard Mountain Dew Blast,” from which five students consumed a portion, according to Northside ISD.

The Hard Mountain Dew Blast is an alcoholic version of the soft drink. It was given to students on the last day of school on Thursday, NISD stated.

“The staff member brought the drinks, not realizing that they contained alcohol, as a treat for students,” the district stated.

Administrators were made aware of the incident and determined the drinks were made available to students in three classes, according to NISD.

The students were taken to the campus nurse, and parents were notified about the alcoholic drinks being served to students, NISD said.

A report was made to the Northside Employee Relations, the NISD Police Department and Child Protective Services for further investigation
