The federal police force clarified the nature of its investigation into the Israel-Hamas conflict after the probe sparked media coverage and raised concerns from pro-Israel advocates in response.

In an exclusive report on June 2, the Toronto Star said the RCMP was probing potential war crimes in the conflict, but wouldn’t share more details about the investigation. Referring to the claim, some Israeli media later said that the RCMP is investigating potential war crimes committed by Canadians serving in the Israeli military.

Reacting to the media coverage, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) said it was “deeply concerning to read sensationalist reports” about the RCMP’s investigation and asked Ottawa to provide clarification.

The group added there are “deadly consequences” when “false narratives are left to fester and go unchallenged,” in reference to recent violent anti-Semitic attacks in the United States. An illegal immigrant from Egypt firebombed pro-Israel protesters in Colorado while yelling “free Palestine” on June 1, injuring 12. In a separate attack, two staffers of the Israeli embassy were killed in Washington on May 21, also by a suspect who yelled “free Palestine.”

The RCMP issued a statement on June 4 in a bid to clarify the nature and scope of its investigation. The force said it has not opened a criminal investigation but rather a “structural investigation” into the conflict.

This type of investigation pertains to the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act and involves collecting, preserving, and assessing relevant information. This information could support future investigative steps should the matter meet a certain jurisdictional and legal threshold, the RCMP said. Continue…

"This is similar to Quebec's Bill 54, adopted in March 2024, which empowers police to presume that any person carrying $2,000 or more in cash must have obtained it as the proceeds of crime," warns the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF). "Police can seize the money, and the citizen must prove his or her innocence to get it back."

Criminalizing large cash transactions, even if rare, risks a slippery slope where the government could drastically reduce the legal limit, eventually eliminating cash altogether.

When questioned about the potential for abuses of civil liberties, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree, former general counsel for the Canadian Tamil Congress, asserted his lifelong commitment to protecting human rights. "I fundamentally believe we have struck the balance," he claimed, saying the legislation "is essential to maintaining the safety and security of our country."

Meanwhile, the JCCF says that "Restricting the use of cash is a dangerous step towards tyranny and totalitarianism," as cash provides privacy, autonomy, and freedom from government, banks, and corporate surveillance.

"If we cherish our privacy, we need to defend our freedom to choose cash, in the amount of our choosing. This includes, for example, our right to pay $10,000 cash for a car, or to donate $10,000 (or more) to a charity," said the freedom-oriented group.

"Law enforcement already has the tools to fight crime," they claimed. "In a free society, violating our right to use cash is not the answer."

The Justice Centre forewarned a central bank digital currency under Prime Minister Mark Carney in a scathing March report, Central Bank Digital Currency.

The report cautions that a cashless economy enables total financial surveillance and government interference, citing the 2022 Freedom Convoy as an example, since all transactions become traceable in a digital system.

In a Globe and Mail column, Carney pushed for financially targeting Convoy organizers and supporters. Over 800 Canadians have been "de-banked" since 2018, including hundreds of freedom advocates, with an estimated $7.8 million in holdings.

The Canadian Bankers Association confessed to freezing bank accounts, including those not on the RCMP's 257-person convoy blacklist.

If Bill C-2 passes, any government agency can simply claim "detecting money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions evasion" to target funds, without needing a conviction or proof.

Part 16 of the contentious bill would grant federal officials permanent power to secretly collect and share personal financial data based on mere suspicion, bypassing the need for emergency orders to penalize dissenters financially.

"A crucial lesson emerged: Canadians should always have access to cash," writes Benjamin Klassen, lead author of the report, who worries that programmable CBDCs would allow governments to control Canadians with "built-in rules and constraints."

CBDCs can be programmed to enforce agendas, such as limiting food or gas purchases for environmental goals, or restricting unhealthy food and drinks to promote health.

Carney, a former Bank of Canada (BoC) governor, is a WEF advocate for digital currencies and net-zero policies, who has promoted digital currencies for convenience and inclusivity.

The Bank of Canada stated the decision to proceed with a digital dollar rests with Parliament, though it clarified that it will not eliminate cash. A 2023 central bank survey showed 79% of Canadians oppose CBDCs over growing distrust, privacy and autonomy-related concerns.

"It could usher in a cashless economy, thereby removing access to the intangible but important benefits cash provides," warned the JCCF.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has invited Canada’s premiers to a summer meeting in Muskoka with a focus on advancing major projects.

“Together, premiers are seizing the momentum coming out of the recent First Ministers’ Meeting in Saskatoon to move the projects that will unleash the full potential of Canada’s economy forward,” Ford said in a statement.

The statement says that the meeting will provide an opportunity for the premiers to discuss how they will move forward with “nation-building” projects, continue to manage Canada-U.S. relations, and increase safety in communities across the country.

Premiers will also meet with leaders of national indigenous organizations during the summit “to have focused discussions on economic development, economic reconciliation and other key priorities for Indigenous peoples and communities,” the government of Ontario said.

A report from Saskatchewan’s provincial auditor says the health authority isn’t analyzing wait times for people seeking timely access to opioid addiction treatment across the province.

The report noted that the Saskatchewan Health Authority lacks sufficient tracking protocols to assess the effectiveness of its opioid addiction treatment services.

“The Authority does not analyze wait times at its clinics or supply and demand for opioid addiction treatment services across Saskatchewan,” the auditor said in a June 3 news release.

The findings come after the province activated an emergency response on March 12 following more than 300 reported overdoses in Saskatoon, saying there was a “toxic drug crisis” in the city.

Now, the provincial auditor said her team has found “errors and inconsistencies” in four of the Saskatchewan Health Authority opioid addictions programs located in four cities that were deemed “most active,” including Regina and Saskatoon.

Through its testing, it found that clients in Kamsack, a community 264 kilometres northeast of Regina, waited an average of four days before being contacted for an initial appointment. In Saskatoon, that number was 4.75 days, and in Regina it was 1.75 days. Continue…

The CAF and Department of National Defence (DND) say the soldier, Captain William Webster Wilson, was buried in a grave in Adanac Military Cemetery in Miraumont, France, in 1916.

The CAF confirmed Wilson’s identity in December 2024 after historical and archival DND research, the department said.

Born in 1890 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Wilson joined the Royal Bank of Scotland at the age of 15, working at various branches in Edinburgh.

The proposed legislation seeks to overturn a change made by former Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2009 that prohibited Canadians born outside the country from transferring citizenship to their offspring unless those children were born in Canada.

Then-Immigration Minister Diane Finley said the rule was enacted to discourage “Canadians of convenience.” She described the legislation as an easy way to “protect” the value of Canadian citizenship by ensuring all citizens had a “real connection” to the country.

A December 2023 decision by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice concluded the modification was unconstitutional, saying that the “second-generation cut-off rule” was a violation of Charter rights.

In the early days of Ottawa’s frantic push to dissuade the incoming Trump administration from imposing sweeping tariffs, cabinet ministers began reusing a term that hadn’t been in the government’s lexicon since mid-2018: “illegal migration.”

Prior to this, the government called it “irregular migration,” in line with the shift in language south of the border under the previous administration to be more “inclusive” regarding these issues, as well as the media adopting the term in their style guides since the mid-2010s.

The same trend was seen when the Liberal government started using the term “carbon tax” earlier this year once it decided to drop the measure, as it had proved politically costly. Up until then, the government had termed the levy “pollution pricing” or “carbon pricing.“

This in turn influenced how the media covered the taxing policy, with some outlets putting quote marks around the term “carbon tax,” and some preceding it with the phrase “so-called.”

Marco Navarro-Génie, president of the Haultain Research Institute, says it’s worrisome that when governments employ certain words in an effort to change perceptions, the media and even in some cases the education system go along with the trend.

“Words matter. The words that we use have an experiential connection to what we call reality,” he told The Epoch Times.

David Millard Haskell, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University and a former journalist, says the media should be more discerning when it comes to covering polarizing issues.

“Journalists are not stenographers, but they should be the arbiters of truth as best they can prove it, and that is apart from their own opinions,” Haskell said in an interview. Continue…

The increase observed in May marked the third consecutive month of unemployment growth. The unemployment rate has escalated by a total of 0.4 percentage points since February, StatCan said.

The Trump administration has been demanding that Iran halt all uranium enrichment, since enrichment past a certain level has no purpose other than developing the unique isotope necessary for nuclear weapons.

Iran has refused to agree, leading to the impasse in nuclear talks — and leading Israel to attack Iran last Friday rather than face the prospect of an imminent Iranian nuclear weapon.

Sikhs in Canada were angered by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend this weekend’s G7 summit in Alberta as a guest.

Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau, publicly accused Modi’s government of assassinating Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Vancouver in June 2023.

“‘Outrage’ is the kind of term that I’ve heard from people,” Sikh activist Moninder Singh, a personal friend of Nijjar, told Reuters on Saturday. He said Sikh groups would protest Modi’s presence all the way through the end of the G7 summit.

Those protests started early in Ottawa on Saturday, as hundreds of Sikhs demonstrated against Modi on Parliament Hill. Many of them waved kirpans, the traditional Sikh ceremonial knife, and waved flags of the Khalistani Movement, which seeks to carve an independent homeland for Sikhs from India’s state of Punjab.

Moinder Singh, who was among the Parliament Hill demonstrators, said Modi’s attendance at the G7 summit was a threat to Canadian sovereignty.

“We want everyone in Canada to know that this is not just a Sikh issue. This is actually a Canadian issue, and India using violence, intimidation, threats, and coercion to force Canadians to bend the knee to them and to toe the line that they want toed, whether it’s our politicians, our media, or the average citizen,” he said. The G7 has long lost its relevance and cannot provide a sufficient answer to existing challenges, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said. He also praised US President Donald Trump’s conduct at the latest summit of the group in Canada and his decision to leave early.

“Well Done!” Medvedev wrote in an X post on Tuesday, referring to the American’ president’s actions during the meeting. Trump “scolded” the European members of the group “for kicking out Russia, refused to discuss sanctions, and left,” he said.

During the meeting, Trump stated that removing Russia from the group that was called G8 at the time was a mistake, arguing that the nation’s presence could have helped prevent the Ukraine conflict.

“You spend so much time talking about Russia, and [Russian President Vladimir Putin is] no longer at the table,” Trump told the meeting, arguing that it only “makes life more complicated.”

British gay couple charged over rape and murder of baby they wanted to adopt

British secondary school teacher Jamie Varley has been charged with the murder and sexual assault of a 13-month-old boy that he and his boyfriend John McGowan-Fazakerley were in the process of adopting.

The couple appeared in Preston Crown Court on Monday, nearly two years after the baby boy, Preston Davey, was pronounced dead at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in 2023. Both defendants were initially arrested, but later released on bail.

Lancashire Police later re-arrested and charged Varley with a slew of offenses including murder, two counts of assault by penetration of a male child under 13 and five counts of child cruelty. He also stands accused of multiple counts of taking indecent photographs, distributing an image and possession of an extreme pornographic image of the victim, as well as other offenses.

His co-defendant McGowan-Fazakerley has been charged with causing and allowing the death of a child, sexual assault of a child, and two counts of cruelty to a child, the police said.

But Bennett says he did not authorize this charge and that the cashier never even asked him if he wanted to make a donation in the first place.

A new analysis of official government data from around the world has revealed that excess deaths are skyrocketing in nations with the highest rates of Covid mRNA “vaccination.”

Excess deaths remain significantly elevated in most Western countries, five years after the pandemic began.

Dr. John Campbell, a medical commentator, is one of the few medical experts asking why.

Campbell raised the alarm on his YouTube show, analyzing excess death data from Our World in Data for 20 countries.

His conclusion: Western nations with high mRNA COVID-19 vaccine usage continue to see unusually high death rates, while countries with lower vaccine uptake or different vaccine strategies are seeing fewer deaths.

“It’s the end of May 2025, and we’re still seeing excess deaths in most Western countries, but not in Eastern countries,” Campbell said.

“What could the difference possibly be?”

According to the CDC, “excess deaths” are the number of deaths above what would be expected based on historical trends.

In the U.S., from 2020 through early 2025, excess deaths remained at least 10% higher than the pre-pandemic average.

In the second half of 2021 through early 2022, they spiked to a shocking 46%.

However, they only started surging after Covid “vaccines” were rolled out for public use in early 2021, and not before.

“We see excess deaths in the United States a bit above the 10% mark for quite a long period of time,” Campbell said.

“This is an ongoing issue compared to 2015 to 2019 levels.”

Western countries such as Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the U.K. also saw death rates hovering around 10% above normal.

Official data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), which is the federal agency in charge of reporting the nation’s health data, shows that in Alberta in 2023-2024, there were a staggering 133 late-term abortions. Of these, 28 babies were born alive after the abortion and left to die.

As noted by Prolife Alberta’s President Murray Ruhl in a recent email, this means the reality in the province is that “some of these babies are born alive… and left to die.”

“Babies born alive after failed late-term abortions are quietly abandoned—left without medical help, comfort, or even a chance to survive,” noted Ruhl.

This fact was brought to light in a recent opinion piece published in the Western Standard by Richard Dur, who serves as the executive director of Prolife Alberta.

Ruhl observed that Dur’s opinion piece has “got the attention of both Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Acute Care Alberta (ACA),” whom he said “confirmed many of the practices we exposed.”

More surgeries are being conducted in Canada now than before the pandemic but wait times have increased, a new report suggests.

The newly released report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information examined the wait times for hip and knee replacements, cataract surgeries, cancer operations, MRIs, and CT scans for the years 2019 to 2024.

It found that increasing health care demands due to population growth and aging, as well as health workforce shortages have led to the increase in wait times. A shortage of health-care personnel, particularly surgical staff, is another element leading to extended wait times.

“Provinces are using many strategies to provide faster access to surgeries, yet wait times for some procedures are still longer than they were before the pandemic,” the report’s authors wrote.

The total number of surgeries across all categories in 2023 increased by 5 percent compared to 2019, the report said. However, this increase failed to keep pace with the 7 percent rise in population and the 10 percent escalation in surgical demand for those aged 65 or older.

Some patients continue to wait longer than the recommended time frames for surgery as a result. Continue…

DNA testing firm 23andMe has been fined more than $4 million following a joint investigation carried out by Canada and UK privacy officials, who found the company failed to ensure sufficient security measures were in place to protect customers’ personal information, leading to a major data breach in 2023.

The joint investigation was conducted by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) and the United Kingdom Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) after a cyber attack affected nearly 7 million 23andMe customers worldwide, including almost 320,000 Canadians and 155,600 people in the UK.

“We decided to launch this joint investigation in light of the international impact of the breach and the highly sensitive nature of the personal information involved,” Canada’s Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne said at a joint press conference with the UK information commissioner in Ottawa on June 17.

The investigation found that a hacker targeted 23andMe’s platform using a “lengthy credential-stuffing attack”—a cyberattack method in which attackers use lists of compromised user credentials to breach into a system.

The attack allowed the hacker to access and download personal information directly from thousands of customers’ accounts on the platform between April 2023 and September 2023, due to a lack of adequate security to protect against unauthorized access to sensitive customer information, Dufresne said.

The compromised data included “highly sensitive” information related to customers’ health, race and ethnicity, geographic location, information about relatives, date of birth, and gender. The investigation also found that the stolen data was offered for sale online. Continue…

A Canadian embassy employee survived a weekend missile strike in Tel Aviv after being pulled from a building located in the Israeli city.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand took to social media to offer thanks to the firefighters who assisted the woman in escaping from one of the numerous buildings that sustained heavy damage in the recent Iranian missile strikes.

“Thank you to the brave firefighters who helped a Canadian embassy staff member in a building that was struck by a missile in Tel-Aviv,” she wrote in an X post. “She was eventually rescued, along with other occupants of the building, and is safe and sound.”

Anand also noted she had a conversation with Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar, adding that “Canada firmly supports Israel’s right to defend itself in the face of Iranian attacks.”

Foreign Policy Canada, which operates under Global Affairs Canada, said in a separate social media post on June 15 that Anand had also spoken with her counterparts in Europe, Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Oman regarding Middle East peace talks.

“She voiced the importance of restraint, de-escalation, and a return to diplomacy,” the June 15 post said. Continue…

The Conservatives have voted alongside the Liberal government to quickly push legislation through the House of Commons aimed at speeding up major project approvals and reducing interprovincial trade barriers.

The June 16 vote saw 305 Liberal and Conservative MPs vote to limit debate on the legislation, while 30 Bloc Québécois, NDP, and Green MPs voted against it. One Liberal MP, Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, also voted against the motion fast-tracking the bill.

The motion puts forth a rapid timeline for the legislation, passing it to the Transport Committee and giving MPs just three days to debate it, submit amendments, and vote on it before third reading.

Bill C-5 aims to bring down federal barriers to interprovincial trade by stipulating that, when a barrier exists, a good or service that complies with “comparable provincial or territorial rules” will be deemed to satisfy the federal trade requirements in Canada. Businesses that follow comparable provincial and territorial rules will also see costs and delays reduced, and a new framework will be created to recognize provincial and territorial licences and certifications for workers.

The second part of the bill seeks to support the development of major projects that align with national interests, contingent upon discussions with the provinces, territories, and indigenous peoples. The bill would create a single assessment for projects and improve coordination of permitting alongside the provinces and territories, aiming to reduce approval times from five years to two.

Liberal MPs have said the legislation must be passed before July 1, which is a promise Prime Minister Mark Carney made during the election campaign. Continue…

Federal fast-tracking bill would allow cabinet to exempt favoured companies from any federal law, opening a massive door to corruption

Mark Carney’s election platform did not include giving himself the power to suspend the entirety of federal law and, by extension, democracy. But that’s what he aims to do with Bill C-5, which he hopes to ram through by Canada Day.

Conservatives, astonishingly, haven’t ruled out helping the prime minister on this front, which is a royal shame since they’re our last line of defence.

Introduced to the House of Commons on June 6, the bill would create a Building Canada Act to fast-track any project the feds consider to be in the national interest. The act would do this by allowing the Liberal government to completely bypass parliamentary scrutiny.

The act would give cabinet the power to add any project it likes to a list of “national interest projects” by issuing an order-in-council. Cabinet would also have the power to make a list of federal laws that can be suspended at any time, with the stroke of a pen, with respect to any designated national interest project. Continue…
