An Async WAN is set up to replicate data from servers (and other devices) into another data center, often a Disaster Recovery data center.
By the way, if this really refers to DTX between DE and DC, it probably just means a TX test to make sure that all comms are functioning if and when they go to the real deal. Defense through strength requires that you prepare for war and demonstrate your ability to wage war and, in the worst case for you, inflict serious, near lethal pain, before you lose. Of course your intent is to win, but you want the enemy to know, that they CANNOT win. Either they fail utterly, or they end up so severely damaged that another enemy will rise up and defeat them.
This is roughly what Trump seems to be doing with defense spending, the whole NATO thing, actions in the Mideast, and even the takedown of the masonic leaders of the NK army.
