The Almighty knew that Israel would fail him way before that at the moment He and Abraham had Covenant. It is why He made Abraham temporarily "dumb" and walked through the blood alone to seal the deal. God knew from the beginning Israel would reject Christ and gave many pre-Christ warnings on it.
The whole Bible is a historic record of a people who were blessed and kept by God, to use as an example to the World. After generations of going against a God that so blessed them, and rejecting the Law is why they went from 12 tribes to oblivion, cursed to die out. Look at what Christ himself says of them and why the gentiles who took up the cross are now the Sons of God.
