MSNBC, CNN see dramatic declines in viewership — while Fox News continues to dominate: Nielsen

MSNBC and CNN suffered staggering losses in viewership over the past year — while Donald Trump’s ascendancy supercharged Fox News in the cable news ratings war.

The left-leaning networks — which will both be spun off by their respective parent companies —suffered year-over-year declines in all major metrics for the second quarter compared to the same period last year, according to the latest Nielsen data, which was reported by AdWeek.

Comcast-ownedMSNBC, with its rabid anti-Trump lineup of anchors, drew an average 1.008 million primetime viewers from April to June, a year-over-year decline of 15%, Nielsen figures show.

In the the advertiser-covered 25-to-54 demographic, primetime viewership plunged 20%, to 91,000 compared to last year — despite star anchor Rachel Maddow returning to full-time duty during the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

Jen Psaki took over her 9 p.m. primetime slot Tuersdays through Fridays midway through the second quarter ratings period.The exodus of eyeballs was even worse during the day, with total viewership plummeting 26%, to an average of 596,000, and 31%, to 57,000, in the key demo compared to the same quarter last year.

CNN, which has languished in last place despite paying anchor Anderson Cooper a reported $18 million in salary, averaged 538,000 total viewers in primetime for the three-month period and 105,000 in the demo, according to Nielsen

Year-over-year, the networksaw declines of 13% in total viewersin primetime and a 15% drop in the 25-54 demo.

The cable news pioneer, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, dropped 14% in total viewers during the day, to an average of 406,000, and 16% in the demo, to 71,000, year-over-year, according to Nielsen.

CNN attempted to put a positive spin on its shrinking viewership, touting strong June numbersas well as its robust digital and streaming audience worldwide. CNN’s total viewership in June rose 26% over May, with notable gains in key demos during all day parts, the company said.

“June was the highest month of 2025 for CNN television in the US among both P25-54 and [total viewers], with CNN being a top 5 network in all of cable,” a spokesperson told The Post on Wednesday. “Stories like these are an outdated view of the media landscape and do not reflect how audiences today actually consume news.”

Fox News, meanwhile, continued to dominate its rivals — extending its winning streak to 94 consecutive quarters as the top-rated cable news network.

The conservative-leaning network’stotal primetime viewership spiked 25%, averaging 2.633 million, and 34%, to 304,000, in the demo compared to the second quarter of last year. During total day, it climbed 25% in total viewers, to 1.632 million viewers, and drew 202,000 in the demo, a 31% increase, compared to last year.

It was the second-highest-rated second quarter in network history with weekday total day viewers, trailing its coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to AdWeek.

More than $2M allegedly stolen from ex-Pro Bowler Reshad Jones

A woman is in jail after she and a former financial adviser were accused of stealing millions of dollars from former Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones.

WPLG-TV, Isaiah Williams, Jones' former financial adviser, is accused of stealing $1.58 million from Jones by using his access to the former Pro Bowler's personal bank account. WPLG reported court records show Williams used the money on luxury items, legal fees and child support.

Another $1.03 million was laundered from Jones' account with help from Octavia Monique Graham, whom Jones told investigators he never met.

Jones' attorneys issued a statement Thursday, calling the alleged theft "yet another troubling example of a professional athlete being exploited by a wealth management firm he trusted.

"In this case, the wrongdoer was a Vice President at one of the world's largest financial institutions – Bank of America's investment management division, Merrill Lynch," Chase Carlson and Jeff Sonn said in a statement. "We have filed a lawsuit to hold Merrill Lynch accountable and are working to recover all damages our client has suffered."

Jail records show Graham is imprisoned at Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, Florida, on a charge of first-degree grand theft. WPLG reported Graham, 49, also faces two counts of money laundering.

Williams has not been arrested for his involvement, according to WPLG.

Jones spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Dolphins, making the Pro Bowl in 2015 and 2017; his final season in the league was 2019. He was a fifth-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2010 and played 128 games in his NFL career, starting 113.

According to Over The Cap, Jones made more than $56 million in his playing career.

Barack Obama, the former US president, sounded the alarm about Joe Biden’s ailing re-election bidalmost a year before polling day, warning his former vice-president’s staff “your campaign is a mess”, a new book reveals.

The intervention came amid tensions between the Obama and Biden camps as they braced for a tough fight against Donald Trump. In the end, the ageing Biden withdrew from the race in favor of his vice-president, Kamala Harris, who was defeated by Trump.

Obama’s prescient anxiety is captured in the upcoming book 2024: =How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America== by journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, a copy of which was obtained by the Guardian.

The authors describe how Biden, trailing in opinion polls, kept hearing complaints from congressional Democrats that his campaign lacked a presence in their district.His staff in Wilmington, Delaware, were “despondent”and the president confided in one aide:“I have a leadership problem on the campaign.”(first of all they had a fake president problem, most of all)

On 20 November 2023, Biden received a call from Obama wishing him a happy 81st birthday, and invited his former boss to the White House for lunch.Obama remained “slightly incredulous” that Biden was running for a second term, the book says.

When the pair met for lunch in December, Obama argued that dividing the campaign leadership between Wilmington and Washington was not suitable for the fast decision-making required by a modern presidential election.

“After the lunch,” the authors write,“Obama did not leave the White House right away. He stopped to visit with Biden’s senior staff, many of whom used to work for him, and shared his account of what he and Biden had discussed. Obama was more blunt with the staff. ‘Your campaign is a mess,’ he told them.”

Biden took heed of the warning and, in January, ordered the White House deputy chief of staff, Jen O’Malley Dillon, to fix his campaign. Soon after, Biden announced that O’Malley Dillon would move to Wilmington to become the campaign chair, with longtime adviser Mike Donilon remaining in Washington as chief strategist.

ButObama was resented by some in the Biden inner circle. Earlier in 2023, he had filmed videos to help the president with online fundraising. “In one clip, Obama reminded Democrats he had ‘won a couple of these’ elections, causing some of Biden’s aides to roll their eyes,” the book reports.

“There was a lot of overlap among aides to Obama and Biden,but to Biden loyalists, Obama was a prick. They thought he and his inner circle had constantly disrespected and mistreated Biden, despite his loyal service as vice president.”

Dawsey, Pager and Arnsdorf add: “They felt vindicated when for the first time during Biden’s presidency, Obama publicly returned to the White House and began by saying ‘Thank you, Vice President Biden.’ Obama was quick to claim he was joking, but to Biden’s stalwarts it was merely the latest example of Obama’s arrogance.”

Biden abandoned his bid for re-election after a disastrous debate performance, giving Harris just 107 days to run in what was the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. The book recounts how Trump survived criminal investigations, assassination attempts and Republican challengers to take on and beat Harris in the election.

Full Speed Ahead: Trump Kills Biden Rule Limiting How Fast Trucks Can Go

Wyoming truckers are cheering a new Trump administration rule reversing a Biden-era agenda that would have put speed limiting devices — called governors — on semitrucks. Truckers say the Biden rule would have been a safety hazard.

Wyoming truckers who say they were dreading a federal regulation to put speed limiting devices on their trucks are praising President Donald Trump's reversal of the Biden-era agenda preparing them to go into effect.

Daniel Ratzlaff, co-owner of Cheyenne-based American Trucking LLC, said the devices — called speed governors — are often to blame when one trucker driving 68 mph tries to pass another going 67 mph, and the maneuver takes several minutes and bottlenecks the interstate.

Many major carriers govern their trucks at around 68 mph for insurance purposes, he said.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced last week that, in response toTrump’s April executive order to push trucker-friendly policies, the agency is reversing its earlier call for speed-governor mandates.

“Mandating speed limiters on heavy-duty trucks isn’t just an inconvenience — it is a safety hazard when drivers are forced to go slower than the flow of traffic,” says the June 27 announcement,

The U.S. DOT is withdrawing its proposed rules on speed governors, which its sub-agency the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrationhad announced during the Biden administration in 2022.

The FMCSA later floated a proposed top speed of 68 mph for commercial trucks, some outlets reported.

The Shortcuts

Governors introduce other hazards by making truckers who are limited both in the speed they can go and the number of hours they can drive in a stretch by law feel rushed — and likelier to undertake other shortcuts.

“He’s more apt to rush, period, to get that load delivered and get to that next pickup,” said Ratzlaff. “Running stop signs; running red lights — he’s more apt to be a dangerous truck driver than somebody that can actually do the speed limit.”

As for Ratzlaff, he knows his tires are rated for 75 mph, so he sets his cruise control for that. He added that he’s confident enough in the tires to pass people at 78 mph when needed.

“And I think that’s more than fast enough,” Ratzlaff said.

To Paul George of Casper-based 2G Trucking LLC, the change of course is great news.

“I think it’s bullshit that they ever thought they should govern trucks,”said George.

He referenced studies concluding that zones with differing speed limits for large carriers and the motoring public are more dangerous than one-speed highways.

“Four-wheelers,” or the motoring public, have gotten sloppier with their driving, George said, adding that both high school curricula and society should return to an emphasis on driver skill and safety.

“It’s about time that someone within the government started looking out for the real people, instead of just making more laws to prohibit people,” said George in support of the DOT’s new course.
