Trump blasts Musk’s plan to break up two-party US system
The US president accused the billionaire of sowing “chaos” with his new third-party initiative
US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Elon Musk over the tech billionaire’s plan to launch a new political party, accusing him of promoting “disruption and chaos” and undermining the stability of the American political system.
In a post on Truth Social late Sunday, Trump criticized Musk for what he described as erratic behavior in recent weeks, calling the entrepreneur a “train wreck.” He claimed that Musk’s proposal to form a third party – dubbed the “America Party” – would fail and only serve to divide voters.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,”Trump wrote. “He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – the system seems not designed for them.”
“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS,”the president added, blaming the Democratic Party for already bringing “enough of that.”
Trump also defended his recently signed multitrillion-dollar spending package, dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which has drawn sharp criticism from Musk. The president claimed that the billionaire opposed the legislation only because it eliminated federal electric vehicle mandates that had benefited Musk’s business. Trump also took issue with Musk’s alleged attempt to have one of his associates appointed to run NASA, noting that the candidate was a Democrat and that the appointment would have raised concerns over a conflict of interest, given Musk’s ties to the space industry.
“My number one charge is to protect the American public!”Trump wrote.
The remarks follow Musk’s announcement on Friday that he is moving ahead with the creation of the America Party, pledging to “give freedom back to the people” and attacking both major parties for “bankrupting” the country.
The billionaire did not elaborate on how much progress he had made with the plan but briefly outlined his strategy and hinted that the first move could be expected “next year,” during the US midterm elections in November 2026, when 33 of the 100 Senate seats and all 435 House seats will be up for grabs.
“The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield,”Musk stated.
Musk previously insisted that his criticism of Trump and his policies was not about subsidies but was triggered by a sharp budget deficit hike he had been recruited to reduce. The tech billionaire was one of the key figures in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a much-hyped temporary organization established to cut budget costs and excessive federal spending.
Musk and Trump have been locked in a recurring war of words, with the US president accusing his former close ally of receiving more US government subsidies “than any human being in history,” threatening to sic DOGE on him, and even mulling a potential deportation of the South African-born entrepreneur.

Navarro, 75, was the first White House official in history to be imprisoned for a contempt of Congress conviction.
He served a four-month sentence in a federal prison in Miami last year.
Dem DOJ’s precedent
By contrast, the very Department of Justice that set a chilling precedent with its prosecutions of Navarro and Bannon (who also served four months in a federal prison in Connecticut last year)gave itself a pass when then-Attorney General Merrick Garland similarly was held in contempt for defying a congressional subpoenato hand over embarrassing audio recordings of Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.
As a senior White House adviser on Jan. 6, 2021, Navarro’s conviction should have had a higher bar than Bernal’s or any other former adviser’s.
But the Biden DOJ and one of its pet DC judges, President BarackObama-appointed District Judge Amit Mehta, ignored Navarro’s legitimate concerns about executive privilege and punished him for his loyalty to his boss, Trump.
It was just one egregious aspect of the weaponized justice system ushered in by Democrats during the last administration, which targeted Trump and his allies as “domestic terrorists” and censored and demonized political dissent.
The good news for Navarro is that Trump won back the White House last November and immediately rehired the former political prisoner as a senior adviser.
In his upcoming book “I Went to Prison So You Won’t Have To: A Love and Lawfare Story in Trump Land,” Navarro recounts how he was arrested by five armed FBI agents on June 3, 2022, when he was on the gangway about to board a flight from Reagan National Airport to Nashville, where he was scheduled to appear on Mike Huckabee’s TV show.

A TikToker is now one of two men charged in the fatal shooting of a Marine veteran and father after turning himself into Texas authorities this week.
Anthony Sanders, 30, was fatally shot on June 3 around 5 p.m. local time in a parking garage at the Houston Galleria in Houston, police said. Sanders was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Days after 23-year-old Marko Cinan was charged with murder on June 25 and booked into the Harris County Jail, a second man — identified by ABC affiliate KTRK and FOX affiliate KRIV as Justin Guzman — turned himself in on Monday, June 30, at the Harris County Joint Processing Center.
Guzman, 22, is now also charged with murder with a bond set to $750,000 and a court date scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, according to Harris County Jail records. Cinan is due in court on the same day, with his bond set to $1,000,000.
The Houston Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for further information on Friday, July 4.
According to both NBC affiliate KPRC and KTRK, Sanders was with his fiancée and young son at the time of the shooting. KPRC reports that his son is 10 months old.
Speaking with KPRC, Sanders' mother, Ronyel Sanders, revealed thatshe was on a phone call with her son during the shootingand that he died "protecting his son and his fiancée," which she said he "always does."
Citing court records, the outlet also reported that the suspects got into an argument with Sanders about his fiancée.When Sanders attempted to leave the parking lot, the two men allegedly blocked his car and shot him 10 times after he got out to complain, per KPRC.
