Junta drone strike kills six civilians, including children in Bago Region’s Kyaukkyi Township
July 7, 2025
At least six civilians, including two children, were killed and two others wounded Saturday when Myanmar’s military launched a drone strike on a school sheltering displaced people in Bago Region’s Kyaukkyi Township, local resistance forces said.
Two men, two women, and two children were killed when junta forces launched a drone strike on a school in Taw Kyaung Pauk village.
Local resistance groups in Bago Region told Myanmar Now that the site was known to shelter displaced civilians. The two children who were killed in the attack were aged one and six.
“Two bombs were dropped at around 5:00 pm—one of them exploded and caused civilian casualties,” a spokesperson from a Bago People Defense Force (PDF) group.
Two women were also injured in the attack, with one reported in critical condition. Resistance forces alleged the strike deliberately targeted civilians and was launched by junta troops stationed. . .

Criminal Groups Are Using Drone Bombings to Displace Indigenous Communities in Northwest Mexico
Jul 07 2025, 7:27 AM EDT
In recent months, more than a dozen Indigenous communities in northwest Mexico have been violently displaced from their lands by criminal organizations.
Drawn by the promise of gold and other valuable minerals, these groups have escalated their tactics—using drones armed with explosives to terrorize residents and forcibly drive them out.
According to witness accounts, residents in the municipalities of Moris and Uruachi, in the northern state of Chihuahua, are among those that have endured a wave of bombings since mid-June.
The attacks are allegedly being carried out by members of Los Salazar, one of the most violent factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, which controls key drug and migrant trafficking routes across Sonora and Chihuahua.
Local residents and mine workers who fled the area said the violence began on June 16, when dozens of armed men—believed to be part of Los Salazar—arrived in Indigenous communities in search of gold.
Prior to these attacks, the region had been under the control of La Línea, the armed wing of the rival Juárez Cartel.
According to a report by the Mexican news outlet Proceso, Los Salazar previously had no presence in Moris and Uruachi but that has changed rapidly in recent weeks.
As Proceso reports, Los Salazar have expanded their presence across Chihuahua and are now believed to control up to seven municipalities in the region.
The group is reportedly led by Hugo Guerrero Encinas, also known as "El 01," who was arrested in 2011 but has since been released and returned to cartel operations.
Hilario Valenzuela, governor and spokesperson for the Warijó Indigenous community of La Finca Pesqueira, told Mexican media that thousands of people have been displaced since Los Salazar arrived in the area.
He said the violence intensified after the case became public, with attacks spreading to surrounding communities.
Thousands of displaced residents have filed complaints with both state and federal authorities, but little has been done to remove the criminal groups from the region.
In a social media post, community members accused Los Salazar of killing, torturing and mutilating innocent people, including the elderly, women and children.
The post also described an incident on June 17, when mothers and other residents took to the streets to ask for help from a military patrol passing through the area.
"They laughed at us and said they didn't care at all," the post reads. "They told us to stay inside our homes. Then the bombs started falling. The soldiers just kept laughing before speeding away from the community."
After receiving no assistance from the Chihuahua Attorney General's Office, many displaced residents traveled to Mexico City between June 19 and 20 to file formal complaints with federal agencies, including the Secretariat of National Defense, the Interior Ministry and the National Human Rights Commission, asking for help to return to their homes.
In a plea shared on social media, community members wrote:
"To anyone who sees this, we ask from the bottom of our hearts that you help share it.
By the time this post goes live, dozens of families will have already left their homes in search of peace—the peace that the group known as Los Salazar stole from them.
These people arrive armed, killing, torturing and mutilating innocent civilians who only work in agriculture, mining, ranching and fishing."
Although Los Salazar are a newer presence in some areas of Chihuahua, the group has a history of displacing entire communities in northern Mexico.
In 2015, Mexican authorities accused them of forcing at least 1,200 people to flee Sonoyta, Sonora, and displacing another 300 families from Las Chinacas, Chihuahua.

From the LA fires to the Texas floods, consumer drones keep getting in the way of rescue operations
Jul 7, 2025, 2:32 AM PT
Search and rescue operations continue in central Texas, where catastrophic flooding on Friday has killed more than 80 people. Dozens are still missing.
During a Sunday press conference, after the usual updates, officials made what has become a familiar request during recent natural disasters: Don't fly your personal drones over the disaster area.
"We know that people want to volunteer, but what we are starting to see is personal drones flying," Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice told reporters. "These personal drones flying is a danger to aircraft, which then risks further operations."
The Kerrville Police Department echoed Rice's remarks on Sunday.
"Media-operated drones are interfering with official search and rescue drones. There is a no-fly zone in Kerr County for private drones," the department said on its Facebook page. "We need cooperation in this matter. Let our first responders do their job."
During a press conference hosted by Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Suelzer of the Texas National Guard said the department had launched an MQ-9 Reaper drone to perform assessment operations.
"It's truly an eye in the sky for our search and rescue people," Suelzer said.
Though drones are now commonly used in military and law enforcement operations, they are also popular among civilians, mostly for photography and shooting video but also for those looking to help search after disasters.
During several recent disasters, however, officials have said those civilian drone operators have hindered rescue operations.
The Dixie fire
In 2021, the Dixie fire spread across Northern California. The flames ripped through communities, displacing residents and burning nearly a million acres of land.
That July, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said an unauthorized drone had impeded emergency operations.
"Yesterday, aircraft assigned to the #DixieFire were forced to land due to an unauthorized drone flying over the fire traffic area," the agency said on its official Facebook page.
"Drones restrict firefighters' ability to protect lives, property, and natural resources. Remember, if you fly, we can't!"

Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene battered the southeastern US in late 2024.
After making landfall in Florida, it traveled up the coast through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding demolished homes and submerged vehicles.
Amid the search and rescue efforts, the US Department of Transportation shared an X post asking consumer drone operators to stay clear. At the time, the Federal Aviation Administration had issued a temporary flight restriction in certain areas.
"Do not fly your drone near or around rescue and recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene," the agency said. "Interfering with emergency response operations impacts search and rescue operations on the ground."
The FAADroneZone, the agency's site for drone services, said in a separate X post that "interfering with emergency response efforts may result in fines or criminal prosecution."
At the time, some online observers thought volunteer drone operators were being barred from assisting in relief efforts, which sparked a backlash.
The DOT later clarified that the FAA didn't ban consumer drones from providing assistance and relief.
"These restrictions occur at the request of local authorities or law enforcement. FAA does not put these into place without requests," a spokesperson told Fox News.
The agency added that "anyone looking to use a drone or other aircraft to assist in Hurricane Helene disaster relief and recovery efforts should coordinate with first responders and law enforcement on scene to ensure they do not disrupt life-saving operations."
Los Angeles wildfires
In January, a series of wildfires erupted across the Los Angeles region, causing widespread damage and forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate their homes.
In addition to emergency firefighting efforts on the ground, officials deployed two Super Scoopers, which are amphibious aircraft that collect water to drop on wildfires.
An unauthorized civilian drone struck one Super Scooper, forcing it out of service.
"We would like to remind everyone that flying a drone in the midst of firefighting efforts is a federal crime and punishable by up to 12 months in prison or a fine of up to $75,000," a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson said at the time.
The incident prompted an investigation by the FAA, which said in a statement that "flying a drone near a wildfire is dangerous and can cost lives."
The Department of Justice said the drone operator agreed to plead guilty to one count of unsafe operation of an uncrewed aircraft.
The plea agreement included the drone operator paying full restitution to the Government of Quebec, which supplied the aircraft, and completing 150 hours of community service.

Armed Forces carry out joint military operation with 11 missiles, drone
[Mon, 07 Jul 2025 11:50:35 +0300]
Sana'a - Saba:
Our air defense succeeded in confronting the Zionist aggression against our country and thwarting its plan to target a number of Yemeni cities.
This was achieved by forcing a number of combat formations participating in the aggression to leave the airspace, preventing them from launching raids.
The counter-attack was carried out with a number of locally manufactured surface-to-air missiles.
In retaliation to this aggression, and in continuation of triumphing for the oppressed Palestinian people, the missile and UAV forces carried out a joint military operation using eleven missiles and drones, distributed as follows:
Targeting Lod Airport with a "Palestine 2" hypersonic ballistic missile.
Targeting the Ashdod Port with a hypersonic ballistic missile.
Targeting the power station in the occupied Ashkelon area using a hypersonic ballistic missile.
Targeting the Umm al-Rashrash Port using eight drones.
The Yemeni Armed Forces confirm that the missiles and drones have successfully reached their targets, and that the interceptor systems failed to intercept them.
The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that the Yemen of those who trust in Allah and rely on Allah submits and kneels only to Allah.
The criminal enemy will realize that the aggression against beloved Yemen will cost it dearly and will only push the Yemenis toward greater steadfastness and perseverance, and to more supportive operations for the oppressed Palestinian people.
Yemen, with its loyal people, faithful leadership, and struggling army, is fully prepared to thwart all enemy military plans.
We are fully prepared for a sustained and prolonged confrontation, to confront hostile warplanes, and to counter attempts to break the naval blockade imposed by our armed forces on the enemy, in triumphing for our people in Gaza.
With Allah' help, we will continue to fulfill our religious, moral, and humanitarian duty by supporting the oppressed Palestinian people in the proud and dignified Gaza Strip until the aggression against them stops and the blockade is lifted.

Huge fines coming for Californians caught by drone with illegal fireworks
July 6, 2025
California residents who lit illegal fireworks over the July 4 holiday may be in for a nasty surprise in the mail thanks to covert fire department operations.
A number of California cities, including Sacramento, have begun using drones to locate people shooting off illegal fireworks.
From Wednesday to Saturday night, the Sacramento Fire Department’s special fireworks task force patrolled the streets with unmarked cars and drones, focusing on neighborhoods where they’ve had prior complaints.
Task force officers and the drones took photos of the illegal activity, and within 30 days the property owner where the fireworks were used could receive a fine in the mail.
If the property is being rented, the fine will still go to the property owner, Sacramento officials said. “Homeowners around Sacramento might be issuing eviction notices,” Sacramento Fire Department Captain Justin Sylvia told Fox40.
This year, Sacramento upped the fine to $1,000 for the first firework, $2,500 for the second and $5,000 per firework after that. If you lit a firework on city property, such as a park or a school, the fine goes up to $10,000 each.
There’s no limit to how many fines you can be issued.
“If we see multiple fireworks being used at a single property, we can stack the violations based upon how many fireworks they're using,” SFD Fire Marshal Jason Lee told KCRA. “So, it could be thousands of dollars per location.”
It’s no idle threat. Last summer, Elk Grove officials announced they’d used to a drone to bust one resident, who racked up $100,000 in fines.
This year, a number of cities across the state announced they would be using drones to find scofflaws, among them Indio, Riverside, Hemet, Brea and towns in Tulare County.
Beyond the noise complaints, illegal fireworks are dangerous, sparking brush fires with regularity and occasionally causing critical injuries.
On Friday, police in Buena Park said an 8-year-old girl was struck when a fireworks display in a residential neighborhood misfired. She was taken to a nearby hospital but died of her injuries.
In the Bay Area, a Hayward neighborhood had to be evacuated after a “fireworks-related explosion” caught a house on fire.
Fox40 reported on Saturday that around 60 citations were being prepared in Sacramento, with more likely on the way as fire officials review surveillance footage.

Glenn Dennis gets a star on the UFO Walk of Fame
Jul 6, 2025
Mayor Timothy Jennings, left, the city's special events coordinator TJ Conyers, center, and Mayor Pro Tem Julianna Halvorson, right, unveil a plaque honoring International UFO Museum and Research Center founder Glenn Dennis on Friday morning at the UFO Walk of Fame on Pioneer Plaza.
Dennis, who died in 2015, sparked interest in the reported crash of a UFO near Roswell in 1947, when he later testified that the mortuary where he worked received an order for four child-sized caskets.
After the incident he recalled talking to a nurse at Walker Air Force Base who said she saw child-size bodies of apparent aliens during the incident.
"His testimony raised public interest and made Roswell the international capital of UFO curiosity," Halvorson said.
