Liberian president impresses Trump with ‘good English’

Joseph Boakai was one of five African leaders hosted at the White House for talks on Wednesday

United States President Donald Trump has intensely praised Liberian President Joseph Boakai for his command of the English language, after the latter spoke briefly about his desire to elevate ties with the US.

On Wednesday, Trump, flanked by several United States officials, sat at the table with leaders from five African countries who are visiting Washington.

Trump hosted leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal at the White House for diplomatic talks and a televised working lunch.

Analysts said the three-day meetings will focus on alleviating the effects of 10% tariffs imposed on the African countries on their goods exported to the United States.

When the turn came for Boakai, he said Liberia supports the policy of making America great again.

”Mr. President, we thank you for this opportunity to be here. Liberia is a longtime friend of the United States and we believe in your policy of making America great again.We also go a long way with you, with your economic diplomacy that has to do with economic development and commercial friendship.

“Liberia has a lot of minerals. Also, we are committed to peace, and we have been very lucky within our region. We are a country that has a series of democratic elections,” he said.

Boakai said he would like to encourage American investment in Liberia.

”We want to work with the United States in peace and security within the region. We are committed to that. We just want to thank you so much for this opportunity,” he said.

As soon as Boakai concluded, Trump responded: “Well thank you, and such good English. Where did you learn to speak so beautifully? You were educated where?”

With a chuckle, Boakai told Trump that he was educated in Liberia.

Trump responded: “In Liberia?

Boakai responded: “Yes sir”.

Trump added: “That’s very interesting. That’s a beautiful language too. I have people at this table who can’t speak nearly as well.”

English is the official language in Liberia. The country on the coast of West Africa, Liberia, was founded in 1822 as a colony for freed American slaves. Liberia’s flag, also known as Lone Star, has striking similarity to the United States flag.

After Boakai, President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema also addressed Trump, commending him for brokering peace between Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda.

”Africa is a vast continent that has many problems and we truly count on you for your assistance in Sudan, and in the Sahel (region) because no investment can be made when there is a war. For investment, you need peace,” said Nguema.

In his address,President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, praised Trump’s golf skills, inviting him to build a golf course in Senegal.

“I was wondering what your secret was, for resolving all these complex crises. I know you are a tremendous golf player. Golf requires concentration and precision, qualities that also make for a great leader.

“Senegal has exceptional opportunities to offer, including in the area of tourism.So, perhaps an investment could be made in a golf course in Senegal. It would just be six hours by flight from New York, from Miami, from Europe or from the Gulf and that would be an opportunity for you to show off your skills on the golf course too. Thank you for your attention, sir.”

A visibly impressed Trump responded:“Nice, somewhere to show off my skills. It’s a long trip to show off my skill, but that’s very nice”.

Trump added: “He’s led a very interesting life. He looks like a very young person — he’s a little older than he looks — but a fantastic job. He was treated very unfairly by his government, and he prevailed, and so congratulations on that.”

Faye, born on 25 March 1980, went from political prisoner in 2023 to the first opposition candidate to win the presidency since 1960. Faye won the 2024 Senegalese presidential election at the age of 44, becoming the youngest elected president in the country’s history.

US Sanctions UN Expert For Pushing ICC Case Against Israel

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced the United States will be imposing sanctions on the United Nations (UN) special rapporteuron human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, accusing her of anti-Semitism, and supporting terrorism.

“Today I am imposing sanctions on UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her illegitimate and shameful efforts to prompt [International Criminal Court] action against U.S. and Israeli officials, companies, and executives,” Rubio wrote in a statement on July 9 posted to the social media platform X.

The Epoch Times reached out to a spokesperson for Albanese for comment.

An Italian attorney and academic, Albanese has served in her role at the UN since May 2022.She has advocated for the UN Human Rights Council to impose an arms embargo and end trade and financial ties with Israel.

Albanese accused Israel of overseeing a “genocidal campaign” in Gaza while at war with Hamas.

The International Criminal Court has alleged Israel is guilty of war crimes, and the International Court of Justice has made allegations of genocide over the nation’s military efforts against Hamas in Gaza. Israel has denied the accusations and maintains that its actions are self-defense after Hamas’s deadly Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on southern Israel.

In an early July report, Albanese accused more than 60 companies, including weapons manufacturers and technology businesses, of aiding Israeli settlements and military efforts in Gazaand suggested that Israel is benefiting from the support.

“The report reveals how the forever-occupation has become the ideal testing ground for arms manufacturers and big tech—providing boundless supply and demand, little oversight and zero accountability—while investors and private and public institutions profit freely,” she wrote.

Israel’s mission in Geneva called the report “legally groundless, defamatory, and a flagrant abuse of her office.”

In a longer statement posted to the State Department’s website,Rubio accused Albanese of anti-Semitism, supporting terrorism, and having “open contempt for the United States, Israel, and the West.”

He also described Albanese’s report asa campaign of “political and economic warfare.”

“She has recentlyescalated this effort by writing threatening letters to dozens of entities worldwide, including major American companies across finance, technology, defense, energy, and hospitality,making extreme and unfounded accusations and recommendingthe [International Criminal Court] pursue investigations and prosecutions of these companies and their executives,” Rubio said.

Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Agnes Callamard, a former UN special rapporteur, also denounced the sanctions.

“Governments around the world and all actors who believe in the rule-based order and international law must do everything in their power to mitigate and block the effect of the sanctions against Francesca Albanese and more generally to protect the work and independence of Special Rapporteurs,” Callamard wrote in a statement.

As a special rapporteur, Albanese is required by the UN Human Rights Council to report on specific topics and crises. The views of special rapporteurs are not reflective of the UN as a whole.

Hamas Willing To Release 10 Hostages, But Israel Wants Total Disarmament

Hamas in a rare statement at a moment 'indirect' talks with Israel are underway has said it is willing to release 10 living Israeli hostages held in Gaza and to return of the bodies of 18 deceased hostages, in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire - a plan which is reportedly being backed by US special Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff.

Witkoff has said he is hopeful, but there's as yet no indications that Israel will agree, and this isn't too unlike prior failed proposals which were on the table, where the 'devil is in the details'.

A senior Israeli official was quoted Wednesday in international reports as saying that while a Gaza ceasefire and hostage-release agreement between could potentially be reached within one to two weeks, it's unlikely such a deal will come together in merely a day.The signaling is that a full truce is still a long shot.

After spending a lot of time at the White House, and in at least two meetings with President Trump, Israeli PMBenjamin Netanyahu has downplayed and rejected reports of friction between the two leaders.

"In pursuing this common goal, we have a common strategy," he told reporters. "Not only do we have a common strategy, we have common tactics. This doesn't involve pressure, doesn't involve coercion, it involves full coordination."

The prime minister made clear, however, thathe's unwilling to pursue a hostage deal "at any price."

"President Trump wants a deal, but not at any price. I want to deal, but not at any price," he continued. "Israel has security requirements and other requirements, and we're working together to try to achieve it."

His words after the Washington trip strongly suggests a long-haul ahead, given Bibi's goals clearly remain the complete disarming and eradication of Hamas in the Gaza Strip:

"I completed a second meeting with President Trump," Netanyahu told reporters before a meeting with Senate Majority Leader John Thune. "I want to inform you something that will shock the various reports that came out.President Trump and I have a common goal. We want to achieve the release of our hostages. We want to end Hamas rule in Gaza. We want to make sure that Gaza does not pose a threat to Israel anymore."(Bibi is a fucking liar, Trump does not have common goals with him, Bibi had negated any idea by Trump of ending this. Trump should force Bibi off to negotiate with the Gulf States leading it. The US doesn’t have common goals or strategies with him.)

If the military goal remains disarming Hamas, then this war is set to go on for much longer, especially given that Hamas continues utilizing the vast tunnel network under Gaza to mount ambushes and quick insurgent attacks on Israeli ground forces.

The Israeli military continues to take on casualties, including days ago an IED explosion and follow-up gunfire which claimed the lives of five personnel, and which wounded fourteen more.

Two thirds of all federal law enforcement funding in the United States forfiscal year 2025 is going to immigration and border enforcement, according to a CATO Institute analysis of data from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

Together, immigration and border enforcementwill receive more than $33 billion.

This includes funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at $19 billion, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at $10 billion, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at $281 million, the Department of Homeland Security's general offices at $3.2 billion and 20 percent of the Coast Guard's budget - approximately $2.2 billion.

However, as Statista's Anna Fleck reports, CATO notes thatthe actual value is even higher, as the Trump administration is “diverting thousands of agents from other federal law enforcement agencies and much of the military to enforcing immigration and border law.”

According to CATO analysts, theamount spent on immigration and border enforcement agencies is 36 times higher than spending on tax and financial crimes enforcement(IRS-Treasury), 21 times higher than funding for firearms enforcement (ATF), 13 times higher than on drug enforcement (DEA), 10 times higher than spending on the Secret Service and 8 times higher than the FBI budget.

These figures are based on current calculations anddo not yet reflect the additional increases expected under H.R. 1 - the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The CBP projects that this will direct an extra $168 billion over the coming years to immigration and border enforcement agencies, along with more funding for agencies that indirectly support immigration law enforcement.

Unlike normal fiscal year appropriations,H.R. 1 makes these funds available over five years, though they can be accessed for up to 10 years, so long as they are committed by 2029.

A Significant Geopolitical Problem for President Trump and Us

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Kuala Lumpur today. Against the backdrop of multiple questions to him about the outcome of their discussion,let us first discuss the problem being avoided.

In the mind of President Putin, and in the growing awareness of the American electorate, the President of the United States does not control the Intelligence Community. It isentirely possible for the USIC to take America deeper toward wardespite the President and people of America not wanting that to happen.Putin is simply prepared for that outcome.

This reality explains a dynamic where President Trump engages with President Putin in an effort to stop the war in Ukraine, yet President Putin continues the war in Ukraine;because ultimately he knows President Trump does not control the elements that facilitate the Ukraine military.

People struggle to accept this dynamic.However, I would remind everyone that right now YOU are paying for the entire government of Ukraine to exist. Including the Ukraine govt payrolls, retirement benefits, healthcare and operational budget of Ukraine overall.

Americans do not want to pay for that. President Trump does not want to pay for that. Yet, here we are, paying for that.

The same inertia process applies to the literal Ukraine war and conflict with Russia.

You might not want it. President Trump might not want it. Yet, here again we are providing weapons, intelligence, satellite communication, personnel and systems for the war.

This is the reality of the situation regardless of your/my willingness to accept it. This reality is what President Vladimir Putin discusses and accepts.

The problem for President Trump is not that this reality exists;the bigger political problem for President Trump is that people are increasingly becoming aware of this reality.

Now, many people are recently arguing against this reality. However, these are the same voices who previously stated President Trump could unilaterally declassify information within the same silo process that is designed to control his declassification authority. Empirically, and in reality, these voices are wrong.

Something needs to change. That something is generally that President Trump has to either: 1. admit publicly he does not control the U.S. Intelligence Community (very ugly); or 2. take control of that intelligence community (even uglier).

In this element of consideration you would be well served to insert the recent experience of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard; who, intentionally or not, opened the pandora’s box containing this issue, and look what happened to her.There was a reason DNI Tulsi Gabbard sat silently recently in the very public Cabinet meeting. I will return to this in a moment.

[SIDE NOTE: Those who deny this reality are likely of a disposition that reconciled advice by those who said COVID-19 virus could attack you standing standing at a bar, but would not approach you sitting down. The COVID virus would attack you in the paint section at WalMart, but not in the grocery aisles, etc.

Every COVID-19 mitigation pronouncement was ridiculously silly,yet people not only believed it, they followed it. The non-pretending tribe did not. Into this pretending/non-pretending world, in a remarkable statement of candor we also saw Secretary of State Marco Rubio accurately -and honestly- say five months ago the Ukraine conflict was a proxy war for the USA against Russia.

Now imagine if the President of the USA made such a statement. How would the world react? What would happen to the dollar? How weak would President Trump look?

Thus, there is extreme pressure to maintain a premise.

Think about the recent experience of DNI Gabbard, and accept those types of consequences are exactly what the USIC rely upon to maintain their power and control. Open, even briefly, the Pandora’s Box that hides reality and massive alarms are immediately triggered to isolate, ridicule and marginalize the truth teller.

The people around President Trump have a vested interest in keeping that Pandora’s Box closed. Which brings us to the second option…. ‘Take control.’

Imagine a journalist who says: “Mr. President, thank you for the transparency you provide in allowing us to be with you and your cabinet during these meetings. If I may ask a question with a brief follow up?”

Question: “Mr President, do you feel you have full control over the intelligence agencies of our government?“

[Anticipated Response]: “I think so, at least I would hope that is the case” (or something similar).

Question: “Thank you. With that in mind, what specifically provides you with the sense of assurance you do have full control over the USIC?” …AND… “Would you also permit DNI Tulsi Gabbard to answer that question?“

Imagine what would follow that brief line of questioning. If the imaginary journalist were so inclined, he/she could also follow up with simple examples, like President Trump having no prior knowledge of the Ukraine drone strikes into Russia etc.

My point is that absent of President Trump taking some action that begins the process -against the interests and advice of his protective advisors- it is going to take an external element in this dynamic to trigger a change in the situation; for better, for uglier, or for worse.

The people around the office of the President are not going to want to touch this issue…
