Back in the day the Associated Press (AP) had a formal style guide for its syndicated articles printed in newspapers. The AP decided that terms like 'illegal alien' could no longer be used in AP articles and steered contributors and editors to terms like 'undocumented worker'. The AP style guide 'guidance' spread throughout mass media for decades and defined the language of the news.
If you steer the language you steer the society.
Fortunately for humanity we now have alternative sources.

Once a president is impeached the president loses immunity. Trump established (via the USSC) that former presidents can be impeached. He also established via the USSC that there are limits on presidential immunity, such as impeachment. These cases - as legal precedents - had to be in place before the prosecution of former president Obama.
