Russia ‘no longer considers itself bound’ by nuclear treaty with US

Conditions for maintaining a “unilateral moratorium” on the deployment of intermediate-range missiles have “disappeared,” the Foreign Ministry in Moscow has said

Moscow believes that conditions for maintaining the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty with the US have “disappeared” and “no longer considers itself bound” by it, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The INF Treaty, which banned ground-launched missiles with ranges of 500–5,500km, collapsed in 2019 when Washington withdrew, citing Russian violations. Moscow has denied the claims, accusing the US itself of developing banned missiles. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that the collapse of the INF will significantly erode the global security framework.

“The Russian Foreign Ministry notes the disappearance of conditions for maintaining the unilateral moratorium on the deployment of similar weapons and is authorized to state that Russia no longer considers itself bound by the corresponding self-imposed restrictions previously adopted,” the statement reads.

According to the ministry, the “actions of Western countries” are creating a “direct threat” to Russian security. It also noted that last year, the US deployed a Typhon missile launcher in the Philippines. The statement also referenced the Talisman Sabre exercise in Australia, where the US Army also fired Typhon.

The Typhon is a mobile ground-based launcher designed to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles (range up to 1,800km) and SM-6 multipurpose missiles (range up to 500km).

The Foreign Ministry also took notice of the Australian Army testing an American Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) for the first time in July. The PrSM is a has a maximum range beyond 500km and “is central to strengthening Australia’s land and maritime strike capability,” according to the country’s Defense Ministry.

The Russian statement added further: “Decisions on specific parameters of response measures will be made by Russia’s leadership based on an interagency analysis of the scale of the deployment of American and other Western ground-based intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles, as well as the overall development of the situation in the field of international security and strategic stability.”

Moscow has repeatedly voiced the possibility of lifting the moratorium, for example, after the US announced plans to deploy long-range weapons in Germany in 2026. In November, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is developing intermediate- and shorter-range missiles in response to Washington’s actions. The Kremlin has not ruled out deploying the missiles in the Asia-Pacific region.

US President Donald Trump, who during his first term withdrew from the INF and the 1992 Open Skies Treaty which allowed conducting surveillance flights over each other’s territory, has suggested that he would resume negotiations on maintaining the existing restrictions on nuclear weapons with Russia.

'Relatively Simple' AI Trading Bots Naturally Collude To Rig Markets: Wharton

In what should come as a surprise to nobody, 'relatively simple' AI bots set loose in simulations designed to mimic real-world stock and bond exchanges don't just compete for returns; they collude to fix prices, hoard profits, and box out human traders, according to a trio of researchers from Wharton and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology.

As Bloomberg reports;

In simulations designed to mimic real-world markets, trading agents powered by artificial intelligence formed price-fixing cartels — without explicit instruction. Even with relatively simple programming, the bots chose to collude when left to their own devices, raising fresh alarms for market watchdogs.

Put another way, AI bots don’t need to be evil — or even particularly smart — to rig the market. Left alone, they’ll learn it themselves.

According to Itay Goldstein, one of the researchers and a finance professor at the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, "You can get these fairly simple-minded AI algorithms to collude … It looks very pervasive, either when the market is very noisy or when the market is not noisy."

The phenomenon suggests that AI agents pose a challenge that regulators have yet to confront - with the trio's research having already drawn attention from both regulators and asset managers. They have been invited to preset their findings at a seminar, while some quant firms - unnamed by Winston Dou (Goldstein's Wharton colleague) - expressing interest in clear regulatory guidelines and rules for AI-powered algorithmic trading execution.

"They worry that it’s not their intention," said Dou. "But regulators can come to them and say: ‘You’re doing something wrong.’"

Thousands of Boeing Defense workers go on strike

Skilled machinists who contribute to the protection of the US deserve better contract terms, labor union representatives have insisted

Workers at several Boeing Defense plants opted to down tools, risking significant disruption to US fighter jet production.

The strike action, which saw workers walk off the job at plants in St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois, followed the collapse of contract negotiations on Sunday.

The US defense giant is facing public scrutiny over safety issues involving its commercial aircraft and repeated delays in delivering key government contracts, including the next-generation Air Force One.

The sites produce several high-profile defense programs, including the F-15 and F/A-18 fighter jets, the T-7A Red Hawk trainer, the MQ-25 Stingray unmanned refueling aircraft, and other advanced weapons systems. The upcoming F-47 stealth fighter jet is also slated for production in the St. Louis area, though Boeing has not specified whether union or non-union facilities will handle the work.

Roughly 3,200 workers represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) are taking part.

Union members voted to turn down Boeing’s latest proposal – a revised four-year labor contract offering additional concessions on scheduling – after previously rejecting a July offer that included up to 40% wage increases for many workers.

”IAM District 837 members have spoken loud and clear, they deserve a contract that reflects their skill, dedication, and the critical role they play in our nation’s defense,” union representative Tom Boelling said. IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli added, “They deserve nothing less than a contract that keeps their families secure and recognizes their unmatched expertise.”

Dan Gillian, Boeing Air Dominance vice president and senior executive for the St. Louis site, expressed disappointment over the decision to strike.

”We are prepared for a strike and have fully implemented our contingency plan to ensure our non-striking workforce can continue supporting our customers,” he said in a statement.

Boeing has posted cumulative operational losses of $42.2 billion since mid-2019, largely stemming from two fatal 737 Max crashes and the extended grounding of its flagship commercial jet. However, the company recently reported some improvement, narrowing second-quarter losses to $611 million.

Tesla billionaire Elon Musk donated $15 million to Donald Trump’s Super PAC MAGA Inc., as well as to the Congressional Leadership Fund and the Senate Leadership Fund, according to Federal Election Commission filings published on Thursday. Both funds are aimed at supporting House and Senate Republicans.

Musk spent nearly $300 million to support Trump and Republicans in their election bids in 2024. He also publicly displayed support for Trump by wearing a “dark MAGA” black hat ahead of the president’s re-election bid. In November, Musk was appointed to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).However, tensions between Musk and Trump emerged after Musk’s appointment. In June, the two exchanged insults on social media. Musk accused Trump of being in the Epstein files, while Trump responded by calling Musk a “big-time drug addict.” Although Musk later walked back some of his remarks, the relationship between the two remains strained.

Despite this, Musk has continued to make significant political contributions. On July 7, he announced the formation of his own political party, the America Party. Musk is the largest individual contributor to congressional PACs and has also contributed $45 million to America PAC, a super PAC he oversees.

The FEC filings released last week only cover Musk’s financial activity through the end of June, leaving open the possibility of additional contributions. Musk’s donations and political moves continue to draw attention and speculation about his broader political goals.

NZ Deputy Police Commissioner Charged Over Alleged Child Sex Exploitation, Bestiality Material

New Zealand’s former deputy police commissioner lost the right to anonymity Monday after he was charged with possessing child sexual exploitation and bestiality material.

Jevon McSkimming was arrested in June and charged with eight counts of possessing objectionable material, but the courts had prevented media from reporting his name or other details of the case.

Appearing in Wellington District Court on Monday, McSkimming opted not to seek an extension of the suppression order.

His lawyer, Letizea Ord, told Judge Tim Black “there is not a further application in respect of name suppression. It’s accepted that it can lapse today”.

He is yet to enter a plea.

Asked as he left court if he had a message for the public, McSkimming said: “No”.

The 52-year-old is alleged to have possessed child exploitation and bestiality material between specific dates.

One of the charges states the offenses happened between July 2020 and December 2024.

McSkimming was suspended from his job on full pay in December 2024, when an investigation into his conduct was launched.

Details of those allegations cannot be reported.

He was on leave for six months before his resignation in May.

Judge Black remanded McSkimming on bail, and he will reappear before the court in November.

New Zealand’s police commissioner, Richard Chambers, has refused to speak to the media, other than a statement in May acknowledging McSkimming’s resignation.

Chambers beat McSkimming to win the police commissioner role in November 2024. A month later, McSkimming was put on leave.

In an email last month to police staff, reported by Radio New Zealand, Chambers said he was aware people felt “angry and feel let down”.

“I feel the same,” Chambers said.

Minister of Police Mark Mitchell has also declined to comment on the case, but has expressed concern about the reputational damage it could cause.

“I hope that the public see through and realise that we have got an outstanding police force, we’ve got incredible police officers,” Mitchell said last month.

“In this case, even though it involves one of our most senior police officers, you’ve seen that action was taken very quickly to make sure that that public confidence can be maintained.”

Israel Launches Ground Raids in Southwest Syria, Captures Several Locals

Claims ‘trafficked weapons’ were seized in multiple raids across Quneitra

Israeli ground troops have carried out multiple ground raids across southwestern Syria over the weekend, including overnight raids in the Quneitra Governorate overnight Saturday, which led to the capture of multiple “suspects” who have not been conclusively identified and appear to simply be local Syrians.

On Friday, Israeli troops attacked farmers near Jubata al-Khashab, first opening fire on them while they were actively farming their own land then confiscating a tractor in the area because the tractor was trying to haul away trees within the area which Israeli military bulldozers had recently knocked down. Three Syrians were captured in that incident.

Israel has been engaged in deforestation in Quneitra in recent months, and farmers have reported intermittently that that has caused problems with groundwater. That is doubly difficult for them as Israeli ground troops have seized control of many of the fresh water sources in the area, preventing irrigation.

The raid on the tractor was just the start of this operation, though. Overnight Saturday, the IDF reported raiding at least four locations in Quneitra, claiming they were targeting “terrorist elements” and captured a number of additional “suspects” in the process. No evidence was given these suspects were doing any more than the captured tree haulers were.

The Israeli officials made much of the idea that they seized “trafficked weapons” in the operations, though given they raided four sites the photo that they released (see above) showed only three actual weapons, some old ammunition boxes and clips, and one stray green colored helmet.

Israel has recently been engaged with the Syrian government in deescalation talks, though it does not appear to functionally matter within the southwest, where Israeli ground troops continue to operate with impunity in Syrian territory.

Israel invaded this part of Syria virtually immediately after the Assad government was ousted in December. The invasion has continued to expand and now reports are putting ground troops within 20 km of the capital city of Damascus.

Though publicly Israel tries to maintain the pretext that this incursion is purely defensive, and in some vague way not permanent, locals are seeing that in practice, Israel controls the area and can and will raid their towns and villages seemingly at will, searching homes, interrogating locals, and hauling some of them away on suspicion.

US Launches Airstrikes Against al-Shabaab During Major Battle in Somalia

The African Union's mission in Somalia says 50 al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the fighting

US Africa Command has announced that its forces launched airstrikes against al-Shabaab during fighting in southern Somalia on Friday, the same day the African Union’s (AU) mission in the country, AUSSOM, reported a major battle.

AFRICOM offered no details about the strikes other than saying they were launched in support of the US-backed government in the vicinity of Bariire, a town about 30 miles west of Mogadishu. Al-Shabaab claimed that it killed 20 Ugandan members of the AU force and that it destroyed several armored vehicles.

AUSSOM issued a statement on the battle denying that it took heavy casualties and lost armored vehicles. The AU mission said that it “strongly refutes media reports alleging heavy casualties among its soldiers in Bariire town.”

“AUSSOM wishes to clarify that its forces, in coordination with the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), initiated a major offensive to recapture Bariire town on 1st August,” AUSSOM said. The mission also claimed that 50 al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the battle.

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) issued a statement on the battle, which also claimed 50 al-Shabaab fighters were killed. “The offensive remains active, with UPDF and SNAF troops continuing operations to dislodge remaining fighters and secure full control of the area,” the UPDF said on Saturday.

The US-backed Somali government has launched a new offensive against al-Shabaab, but has still continued to lose territory to the group. AFP reported last month that government forces “melted” in the face of al-Shabaab’s offensives and the government of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has become increasingly unpopular and controls little territory inside the internationally recognized borders of Somalia.

Despite the failures, the US has doubled down on propping up the Mogadishu-based government and continues to support it with airstrikes. The US has also been bombing the small ISIS affiliate in Somalia’s northeastern Puntland region, where the US is backing local forces.

It’s unclear how many airstrikes the US launched against al-Shabaab on Friday, but counting the bombing as two brings the total number of US airstrikes in Somalia this year to 55. The Trump administration is bombing Somalia at a record pace and is well on its way to breaking the annual record of 63 airstrikes, which President Trump set during his first term in 2019.

“Each of these people sat in cabinet meetings, operated in the inner circles, attended all the most sensitive decision-making processes,” a voiceover at the start of the video says by way of introduction. “Together, they have more than a thousand years’ experience in national security and diplomacy.”

Government critics say Netanyahu is avoiding agreeing on a permanent end to the war and the return of the 50 hostages still in captivity in order to preserve his coalition, which relies on far-right parties that insist on continuing the fight and whose leaders have voiced their desire to permanently conquer Gaza, push out its residents, and resettle it with Jews.

In the English-subtitled video, the men argue that the fighting in Gaza could have ended long ago and demand that Israel end the war with a permanent ceasefire and comprehensive hostage deal that will see the release of all 50 remaining hostages in one fell swoop.

Viral RNA-based sprays for plants have unknown consequences

Terrana Biosciences is on a mission to replace pesticides with its RNA-based sprays as “vaccines” for plants to protect crops from pests and diseases. The RNA is taken from plant viruses.

Terrana claims its sprays do not alter the plant genome and merely deliver RNA into plants to stimulate an immune response or produce protective proteins. But in reality, they don’t know, as there have been no long-term safety studies.

The company describes its products as: “Terrana sources native RNAs from across the plant world and gives them new instructions to make any desired trait and solve for problems at any point in the plant’s lifecycle,” which indicates their true aim.

Michelle Perro explains why Terrana’s sprays are risky, very risky, for people and the environment. RNA sprays are more dangerous than GMO crops, she says.

Terrana Biosciences was launched by the venture capital firm Flagship Pioneering on 1 July 2025. At the end of July, reports were circulating that the company had received approval to spray synthetic RNA onto American food crops. The reports (for example, see HERE and HERE) don’t provide their sources for the approval, so we haven’t been able to verify these claims.

However, in December 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) approved ledprona, a sprayable double-stranded ribonucleic acid pesticide. Marketed as Calantha, which uses ledprona as its active ingredient, the RNA interference (“RNAi”) pesticide was developed by GreenLight Biosciences.

Perhaps the July reports are conflating the launch of Terrana Biosciences and the approval of GreenLight’s RNA products? Regardless, the whole agenda of replacing chemicals with RNA products is nefarious.

This vision leaves no space for the people who already live there, in this case, Palestinians.

This theology, often called Christian Zionism, believes that the return of Jews (who just happen to be white Europeans appropriating a religion) to the Holy Land ( appropriating land associated with other people and their history) is a precondition for the Second Coming of Christ. It is not a belief rooted in justice, democracy, or history, but in made up prophecy and salvation. For its followers, the suffering of Palestinians is not a tragedy to be prevented, but an unfortunate step toward a divine end.

The outcome is a moral collapse that goes beyond failed policy. Bombing cities, displacing families, and denying people basic rights are justified through the language of God’s will. And when such violence is given religious cover, it becomes nearly impossible to question without being called a heretic or an enemy.

Belief in chosenness, when tied to power, has never led to peace or liberation. It creates a world divided between those who belong and those who do not, between those who are saved and those who are expendable. The idea that anyone holds a special divine status by virtue of birth, religion, or geography is not a truth. it is a made up story. a myth, period! And it is a fake story that is costing lives of innocent people. In 2025, this level of ignorance in the presence of widely available knowledge and technovy to access that knowledge shouldn't be in existence anymore.

“We can disagree about a lot of things in the foreign policy space, but there’s no room to tolerate mass starvation,” said Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz, who is Jewish and widely seen as one of the party’s future leaders in the Senate. Schatz argues there’s a conflation of opposing the Israeli government and opposing Israel’s right to exist that he calls “ridiculous” and an “intentional strategy” meant to distract.

“I think there’s a recognition that Netanyahu is making Israel and Israelis and Jews unsafe all over the world,” Schatz said. “More and more of us are saying so and voting accordingly.”

Israel Activates Its Cells

The conflation of Zionism with anti-Semitism is the test in the Zionist lobby case against Australian journalist Mary Kostakidis for her Gaza reporting and the outcome will be of great international significance, says Joe Lauria.

First, I know Mary Kostakidis. Like anyone who knows her the idea that she is a bigot, or a racist or an anti-Semite is just totally absurd. The idea that she should wind up in a courtroom before a judge on a charge of violating the country’s Racial Discrimination Act is unfathomable. But then we must consider the upside-down period we’re living through.

It could not be more obvious what is going on here. Mary Kostakidis is opposing a genocide, what any decent person should be doing. But the government that is perpetrating that genocide has activated its “cells” around the world – these cells include powerful governments, intelligence agencies, law enforcement, influential mainstream media, online influencers and lobbyists, like the Zionist Federation of Australia – to punish anyone who is trying to stop Israel from committing its crimes.

That includes American university students getting clubbed over the head by riot cops; German anti-genocide protestors beating beaten in the streets of Berlin by police; the Palestine Action group being designated a terrorist organization by the British Home Secretary; British journalists and activists being interrogated at the U.K. border and threatened with prosecution under the Terrorism Act, the ABC sacking Antoinette Lattouf and the Zionist Federation of Australia‘s action against Mary Kostakidis.

The central issue in her case will be whether criticizing Israel is equal to anti-semitic hatred. Mary’s barrister rightly focused last week on the July 1 case of Wertheim v. Haddad, in which Justice Angus Stewart ruled that:

“ … political criticism of Israel, however inflammatory or adversarial, is not, by its nature, criticism of Jews in general or based on Jewish racial or ethnic identity, and that it is not anti-semitic to criticise Israel …”

It could not be clearer. But will the court in Mary’s case be swayed? That’s impossible to say at this point. The idea that the court is even taking the Zionist Federation of Australia seriously so far is troubling. If it does not throw the case out altogether it will be alarming.

The conflation of Zionism with anti-Semitism is the test here and the outcome will be of enormous international significance. Thus the interest of U.S.-based Consortium News. There is no comparable case in the U.S. – not yet at least – of a journalist – and a very prominent one at that – being hauled into court accused of racial hatred for taking a principled stand against genocide and the government carrying it out.

Netanyahu Has Reportedly Opted For Permanent Military Occupation Of Gaza

Israel's Channel 12 broadcaster is reporting that the Israeli government has made the decision to occupy the Gaza Strip on a permanent basis.

Correspondent Amit Segal reports Monday, "Senior official in Netanyahu’s office: The decision has been made — we’re going to occupy Gaza."

The top official has been further quoted as saying: "If we do not act now, hostages will die of starvation and Gaza will remain under Hamas control."

But the last days have seen conflicting reports over the status and future of the ground operation, dubbed 'Gideon's Chariots'. What has become clear in the last week is that negotiations are off, as Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered an expanded ground incursion in central Gaza.

With much of the Strip already decimated, and inhabitants on the verge of mass starvation, a big question has remained for Netanyahu: what's next?

Hardline politicians in his own cabinet have called for the total removal of the Palestinian population, after President Trump months ago talked about turning the enclave into the 'Rivera of the Mediterranean'.

Former Fort Campbell soldier indicted in connection with sex abuse of minor on base

A former Fort Campbell soldier has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Paducah, Kentucky in connection with child sex abuse that occurred on base while he was still a soldier.

Zachary Martin Young, 54, of Swansea, South Carolina, is facing one count of sexual abuse of a minor that allegedly happened between March 1999 and February 2000 while he was stationed at Fort Campbell, U.S. Attorney Kyle G Bumgarner of the West District of Kentucky said in a press release.

The release said Young had sex with a minor who was between the age of 12 and 16.

Court records show Martin was arrested June 24 in South Carolina. He was released on $25,000 bond. His indictment remains sealed.

Young retired from the U.S. Army in 2014, the release said.

Hopkinsville FBI and Army Criminal Investigation worked together on the case.

Young was arraigned July 29 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison, with no possibility of parole.

‘Operation Unsportsmanlike Conduct’: 7 arrested in Stark County child sex sting

Seven men were arrested during a two-day undercover operation in Stark County aimed at catching child predators, according to Jackson Township police, including two men who authorities say were in the country illegally.

Officials say "Operation Unsportsmanlike Conduct" was carried out on Thursday, July 31 and Friday, Aug. 1.

The Cleveland Division of the FBI and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force partnered with local police departments from Streetsboro, Toledo, Louisville, Perry, Beachwood and Massillon, as well as the sheriff’s offices in Stark and Portage counties.

According to police, the operation targeted individuals who were allegedly traveling with the intent to engage in sexual activity with children.

The following suspects were arrested and booked into the Stark County Jail on charges of importuning, attempt to commit unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and possessing criminal tools:

Edmund Starr, 38, of Broadview Heights

Ryan Strouse, 37, of Massillon

Michael Chaffee, 66, of Wadsworth

Jacob Bauer, 48, of Massillon

All four suspects were arraigned on Monday morning. The judge set Strouse’s bond at $15,000. Bauer and Chaffee also received $15,000 bonds, which they posted. Starr’s bond was set at $100,000.

In addition, Andres Gallardo, 44, of Cleveland, was charged with the following:

Importuning

Attempt to commit rape

Possessing criminal tools

Gallardo's bond was set at $50,000.

Two other men, Mustafa Cakar, 24, of Pittsburgh, and Alberto Perez, 28, of Canton, were also arrested.

Both face charges of importuning, attempt to commit unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and possessing criminal tools.

According to court records, their bonds were set at $25,000.

According to police, they were referred to the Department of Homeland Security’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for deportation.
