Trump Pulls Sneaky Reversal After MAGA Rips Him for Making Support for Israel a Condition for Disaster Aid
Major backlash against Trump and his administration from his base and liberals ensued after it was reported that the FY 2025 DHS Standard Terms and Conditions included language that read in part, “Discriminatory prohibited boycott means refusing to deal, cutting commercial relations, or otherwise limiting commercials relations specifically with Israeli companies or with companies doing business in or with Israel or authorized by, licensed by, or organized under the laws of Israel to do business.”
The next day, this language was removed, and the Department of Homeland Security posted this statement: “There is NO FEMA requirement tied to Israel in any current NOFO. No states have lost funding, and no new conditions have been imposed.”
However, DHS also wrote: “DHS will enforce all anti-discrimination laws and policies, including as it relates to the Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) movement…” The DHS notice makes it clear that they reserve the right to deny federal funding if the parties seeking disaster aid engage in BDS.
