United States immigration authorities have arrested at least 450 people in a raid on a Hyundai manufacturing site in Georgia, federal officials confirmed Friday.
The Hyundai facility, located in Ellabell, Georgia approximately 30 miles west of Savannah was raided “as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into allegations of unlawful employment practices and other serious federal crimes,” according to a statement from a public affairs officer with the Department of Homeland Security.
“This operation underscores our commitment to protecting jobs for Georgians, ensuring a level playing field for businesses that comply with the law, safeguarding the integrity of our economy, and protecting workers from exploitation,” the statement continued.

Twelve People Charged for Their Roles in International Alien Smuggling, Asylum Fraud, and Money Laundering Conspiracies
Twelve people have been charged in a superseding indictment for their roles in an international conspiracy involving alien smuggling, asylum fraud, and money laundering schemes that brought thousands of aliens illegally into the United States for profit.
According to court documents, the defendants operated a prolific alien smuggling operation (ASO) that facilitated the unlawful entry of Cuban nationals into the United States by preparing visa applications, laundering millions of dollars in payment, and exploiting the immigration process.
“This DOJ is investigating and prosecuting human smuggling more aggressively than ever before, and Joint Task Force Alpha is the tip of the spear,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “We will not rest until those who profit from the suffering of vulnerable people — including many unaccompanied children — face severe, comprehensive justice.”
“This indictment exposes a criminal organization that smuggled people into the United States on a massive scale, and then fraudulently secured immigration benefits for them,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “Posing as a legitimate immigration service, the defendants used social media promotions and false legal filings to attract new clients and perpetuate their fraud. The Criminal Division and our law enforcement partners will continue to dismantle these schemes, protect vulnerable people from exploitation, and safeguard the integrity of the U.S. immigration system.”

WaPo🔥: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the federal agency responsible for managing lawful immigration, including issuing green cards, has been authorized to add armed law enforcement officers with arrest powers to its personnel, it said Thursday.
The Trump administration has already made several changes at USCIS this year to heighten scrutiny of immigrants, including increased efforts to determine whether applicants have “good moral character” as well as screening for “anti-American” behavior.
USCIS Director Joseph B. Edlow, a Trump administration appointee who was confirmed in July, said at a Center for Immigration Studies event on Thursday that the new personnel would investigate immigration fraud.
He added that he had conferred with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to which USCIS would traditionally refer potential law violations, and “they’re looking forward to having the extra help.”
