State Department Warns Against Americans Traveling To 6 Nations

The US State Department has warned Americans against travel to six nations; Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, and Russia over what it described as a high risk of "wrongful detention."

"Multiple terrorist groups are active in Afghanistan and U.S. citizens are targets of kidnapping and hostage-taking," the January memo reads.

Of note, the US Embassy in Kabul suspended its operations in 2021, meaning Washington DC is unable to provide emergency or consular services to Americans in the country.

"U.S. citizens should not travel to Afghanistan for any reason," reads the advisory.

In Burma, the risks include arbitrary enforcement of local laws, the potential for civil unrest, and armed conflict, according to the new advisory issued May 12. The country is ruled by a military regime that deposed elected officials in a 2021 coup, the Epoch Times reports.

"Wrongfully detained U.S. nationals have been held in prison for years, often in poor conditions and without fair and transparent treatment or consistent access to U.S. Embassy officials or their families," said the department.

In Iran, Washington currently does not have consular or diplomatic relations, said a March 31 advisory.

Americans face “serious dangers” in Iran and could be detained simply for having a U.S. passport, it said.

“Iranian authorities continue to unjustly detain U.S. nationals without warning or any evidence they committed a crime. This includes dual U.S.-Iranian nationals, students, journalists, business travelers, academics, and individuals with U.S. military or government experience,” the advisory said.

Tyler Robinson has not confessed to killing Charlie Kirk – Utah governor

The alleged shooter admitted to acquaintances on Discord, however, that he killed the conservative activist, Spencer Cox has said

Tyler Robinson, 22, the alleged shooter, remains in custody. He is expected to face formal charges on Tuesday, Cox said. “He has not confessed… to authorities. He … is not cooperating,” the governor stated, adding that “all the people around him are cooperating.”

Cox noted that the suspect had a trans partner, confirming earlier media reports. “We can confirm that… his roommate was indeed a boyfriend who is transitioning from… male to female,” which was also verified by the FBI, he said. This person is cooperating with the authorities, according to the governor.

The investigators also established that the suspect talked to acquaintances about the shooting after the incident on Discord and claimed responsibility for it, Cox stated. “All we can confirm is that those conversations definitely were happening, and they did not believe it was actually him. It was … all joking until… he admitted that it actually was him.”

The motive of the murder remains unclear, according to ABC. Cox previously told the Wall Street Journal that Robinson was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.” Asked by ABC to comment on the statement, he replied: “so far, that has come from his acquaintances and his family members.”

Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck while addressing students in Orem, Utah. Robinson was arrested on Friday after his father reportedly recognized him in surveillance footage and persuaded him to surrender.

Police recovered a Mauser .30 caliber bolt-action rifle and ammunition engraved with slogans such as “Hey fascist! Catch!” near the shooting scene.

US President Donald Trump said in the wake of the incident that Kirk’s murderer should face the death penalty. Cox also previously said the authorities would seek capital punishment for the assassin.

British Boxing Legend Ricky Hatton Dies at 46

Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton, who rose to become one of the most popular fighters in the sport, has died. He was 46.

Hatton was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester, Britain’s Press Association reported Sunday.

Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

“Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement. “There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Police would not reveal the identity of the man, but said they were working with his family to provide a statement for media.

Friends of Hatton were quick to pay tribute Sunday morning.

“Today we lost not only one of Britain’s greatest boxers, but a friend, a mentor, a warrior, Ricky Hatton,” said another former world champion, Amir Khan on X.

“Rip to the legend Ricky Hatton may he rip,” former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury said in an Instagram post, with photos of the pair together. “There will only ever be 1 Ricky Hatton. can’t believe this so young.”

News of Hatton’s death comes two months after he announced he would make a return to boxing in December in a professional bout against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai.

Hatton won world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight.

He rose through amateur and domestic levels and at the height of his career shared the ring with the best boxers of his generation including Kostya Tszyu, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Hatton’s down-to-earth demeanour also endeared him to fans across the world, and he was open about the mental health issues he endured upon his retirement from the ring.

“As fighters, we tell ourselves we’re strong – we train, we sweat, we take hits, we get up. But sometimes the hardest fight happens in silence, in the mind,” Khan added on X. “Mental health isn’t weakness. It’s part of being human. And we must talk about it. We must reach out. We must lean on each other.”

Hatton went on to become a trainer, coaching Zhanat Zhakiyanov to a world bantamweight title win in 2017.
