Some really really hate others being free. They claim they love freedom, they even think they do, but they hate it with a passion. What they love and want is a king, whether it be one man or a group, that agrees/disagrees and likes/dislikes the same things as them. If they agree or like it, everyone should be "free" to do it, but if they don't agree or like it, it should be illegal and even if it's not illegal it's still wrong and you shouldn't do it because they said so!
The government has no authority to criminalize association and never did, although they have unconstitutionally exercised that authority many times in the past. You want to "beat" a group, shine a light on them.
