>turns out the character wasn't wrong.

>and yet that character was used to ridicule those who opposed the adding of industrial waste to the drinking water.

Ripper was a complex and heartfelt character, flawed and obviously tragic, but NOT a complete fool. Kubrick put equally admirable AND ludicrous aspects into each of the characters in that particular film. It may have been Kubrick's way of trying to bring the subject to light in America at that very time, while also pointing out the absurdity of MAD. ijdfk

>some liberal people who would quote that, though, and act as if anyone who was opposed to fluoridation was crazy

Maybe you and i have discussed this before in the previous 8 years. I too remember people in the 70s and 80s who were 'strangely' (hehe, see what i did there?) strangely quick to ridicule any questions about fluoridation. It was openly admitted as being put in the water "for your teeth of course. What could be wrong with THAT?!"… but those same people would ignore the issue of mass dosing the population vs. just having it in your tooth paste if you want. Ignoring that wrongness of mass dosing.

Here We are today. ugh
