I'm thinking more along the lines that the older Catholics that were raised on the homosex bad, Sodom and Gemorrah doctrine went elsewhere and the news hit the geezers that wanted to buy their way into heaven by leaving a chunk of their estates to the church have changed their wills
The Church:
"Let's appeal to young people by endorsing gays & trannies and do the gender neutral thing wherever we can"
The Young People:
"That cool of them for our progressive views but I can go to Mass and tithe or I can stay home and use the money for my Steam membership. I don't speak Latin and the graphics on these new games are awesome"
The Oldsters:
"It's the Baptists that are still against gay, right? Time to check them out"
