Technology Briefing | Software: Accenture To Develop Voting System
July 8, 2003
Accenture, a large consulting service, has said that it will develop an Internet voting system for the Defense Department to allow thousands of citizens to vote from abroad in the 2004 elections. The company will provide secure electronic balloting and voter registration for military personnel and their dependents and for some other United States citizens who live overseas who have a Windows-based computer and Internet access. County election officials will use the system to receive voter registration applications, provide ballots to voters and accept completed ballots. We created our elections practice in response to the market need that emerged following the 2000 elections, said Steven J. Rohleder, who leads Accenture's government operating group, and we continue to see tremendous global business opportunities in the election industry. Officials in 10 states have said they will participate, including Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah and Washington.
