No desire to listen – Kremlin on failed UK talks

London ignored Moscow’s position on Ukraine during an attempt to reopen dialogue, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said

Russia and the UK tried to re-establish dialogue earlier this year, but the attempt failed due to London’s refusal to listen, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

The remarks followed a report by the Financial Times on Tuesday that British National Security Adviser JonathanPowell had sought to open a back channel with the Kremlin, fearing that Europe could be sidelined in US-led diplomacy over the Ukraine conflict.

According to the paper, Powell contacted Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov to convey Britain’s and the EU’s positions directly to Moscow.

On Wednesday,Peskov confirmedthat contact between the two sides had taken placebut said it “did not continue” because there was no mutual exchange of opinions. “During the contact,the [British] representative showed a strong desire to present the European position, but thereappeared to be no intention or desire to listen to ours,” he said.

The UK, along with the EU, has been one of Kiev’s most persistent backers, supplying long-range missiles, tanks, and training, authorizing strikes inside Russia, and imposing multiple rounds of sanctions. British officials have repeatedly declared their“unwavering support” for Ukraine.

Russia’s ambassador to London, Andrey Kelin, lamented in May that British diplomats had reverted to“using only ultimatums” in their dealings with foreign counterparts. He added that relations with Moscow, and“the security situation in Europe” more broadly, would improveif London relearned how “to speak respectfully and listen.” (Putin and others in Russia have told Trump and many others, there is no reason to be disrespectful.)

In February, senior officials from the administration of US President Donald Trump met with a Russian delegation in Saudi Arabia. In August, Russian President VladimirPutin and Trumpheld talks in Alaska, in what theFT described as “a time of peak anxiety for European powers.” Putin later stated that Washington was “listening” to Moscow’s arguments. (So the UK was not opening up dialogue and diplomacy with Russia, they were trying to find out the inside track of what Trump was planning for Ukraine, because the UK runs all plans for UK, or interrupt the meeting with Putin and Trump in Alaska. UK never wants peace with Russia, it's pretty clear.)

Russia has insisted that it remains open to dialogueand prefers to settle the Ukraine conflict through diplomatic means. However, Russian officials have maintained that any lasting peace must address the underlying security concerns that led to the hostilities and take into account the territorial realities on the ground.

Poland will not put Ukraine’s interests above its own – president

There must be a “symmetry” in the relations between Kiev and Warsaw, without the latter becoming a “hostage” to them, Karol Nawrocki has said

Poland will not put Ukraine’s interests above its own or allow its partnership with Kiev to dictate national priorities, President Karol Nawrocki has said.

Warsaw has been one of Kiev’s main backers since the conflict with Russia escalated in 2022, providing over €5.1 billion ($5.7 billion) in aid, acting as a key hub for Western arms, and accepting roughly a million Ukrainian asylum seekers. Yet public support for Kiev has steadily waned.

Nawrocki, who took office earlier this year, previously reaffirmed general support for Ukraine but opposed its NATO and EU bids and questioned indefinite welfare aid for refugees. In September, he signed a bill tightening benefits for Ukrainians and proposed extending the residency requirement for citizenship from three to ten years.

In a Tuesday interview with wPolsce24 TV,Nawrocki said Poland had “gone too far” in supporting Kiev at the cost of its own interests. He stressed that his country “will not become a hostage” to Ukraine, emphasizing that ==Polish policy will be guided by national sovereignty and interests.

“There must be a partnership-based relationship. We are trying to find a certain symmetry between the interests of Poland and those of Ukraine,” he said. “Poland’s interests cannot be treated as a guarantee for fulfilling all Ukrainian demands while ignoring Polish public opinion.”

(Good Luck with that, Ukraine has used Poland and every other country that helped them. Since the beginning, they insulted Poland, demanded things they wanted, could care less, of any other country including the US. Nawrocki accusedUkraine of failing to meet Warsaw’s demands, particularly on the exhumation of Polish victims of mass ethnic cleansingby Ukrainian Nazi collaborators during World War II, which Kiev has resisted.

“We want to help, but we all know how much we’ve helped already,” he stated.

The president invited Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to visit Poland, calling it an “excellent opportunity” for him to address unresolved issues, meet Ukrainians living there, and “thank the Poles for what they have done over the past three years to help Ukraine.” (That is going to blow up for sure.)

Polish approval for accepting Ukrainian refugees fell to 48% from 94% in early 2022, according to a September CBOS survey. Support for Ukraine’s EU membership dropped even lower – to 35% – in June, down from 85% in 2022, an IBRiS poll found.

‘Lucifer’ bee with devil-like horns discovered in Australia

The find is the first in its group in over 20 years, scientists have said

A new species of bee has been discovered in Western Australia, named ‘Lucifer’ due to the devil-like horns found on its females.

The discovery of the species, formally named Megachile (Hackeriapis) lucifer, was announced by Curtin University on Tuesday. Lead researcher Kit Prendergast said the name was inspired by the insect’s appearance and the Netflix series ‘Lucifer’.

“The name just fit perfectly. I’m also a huge fan of the Netflix character Lucifer, so it was a no-brainer,” (WTF) Prendergast said in a statement. “The female had these incredible little horns on her face,” she added.

Prendergast, from the university’s School of Molecular and Life Sciences, first encountered the bee in 2019 during a survey of a critically endangered wildflower and was struck by its unique features, according to the study published in the Journal of Hymenoptera.

Genetic analysis revealed it was the first new species in its group to be studied in more than 20 years,Prendergast said, with DNA barcoding confirming it was a unique find not represented in any major databases or museum collections.

The function of the female’s horns is still under investigation but may be related to gathering resources or nest defense, the researchers noted.The males of the species lack the distinctive horns.

The finding highlights the importance of researching native bees in ecosystems threatened by climate change and habitat disturbance, Prendergast said, adding that it “really shows how much life we still have to discover.”

She expressed hope that the discovery would raise awareness of the vast number of species still unknown to science, particularly inregions under threat from climate change and mining.(Why didn’t climate change kill that new old bee? Can you answer that Climate Change believer?)

“Many mining companies still don’t survey for native bees, so we may be missing undescribed species, including those that play crucial roles in supporting threatened plants and ecosystems,” she said.

The discovery comes as pollinators, which are essential for nearly all of the world’s flowering plants, face severe threats.Habitat loss and climate change are pushing many vital bee species to the brink of extinction.

UK stops sharing ‘drug boat’ intelligence with US – media

London reportedly opposes President Donald Trump’s strikes on alleged cartel vessels

The UK has stopped sharing intelligence on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean with the US after the Pentagon began conducting lethal strikes on the vessels, CNN and The Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The US has killed at least 76 people in international waters since September as part of President Donald Trump’s campaign against what he says are “narcoterrorists” operating out of Venezuela.

According to CNN, London suspended intelligence-sharingbecause it believes the strikes are illegal under international law. A UK military source told The Times: “We don’t just target the vessel and kill people. We would arrest them.” (Show the International Law and prove it’s illegal, you can’t just decide what is legal or illegal yourself? That’s how we know the UK is lying and just trying to please their cartel clients.)

The UK had used intelligence assets stationed on its Caribbean overseas territories to help the US Coast Guard intercept vessels suspected of smuggling drugs, CNN reports.

The UN’s top human rights official, Volker Turk, condemned the strikes as “extrajudicial killing.”(The UN supports drug runners WW, the whole place is filled with criminals, their opinions are irrelevant.)

Venezuela and neighboring Colombia have denied that the victims were involved with cartels. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has rejected Trump’s allegations that his government is profiting from the drug trade.

Trump has deployed a naval armada, including the USS Gerald R. Ford, near Venezuela’s coast, hinting that he could authorize strikes on Venezuelan soil.

He denies, however, that he is seeking regime change. Maduro has placed the military on alert and vowed to repel any attack.
