We have opened up our checking account to every one interested in free money. Congress and the SSA fucked up when they added additional programs to a "bank account" designed solely for people who paid into it.
Congress, the holder of the purse strings, could have and should have funded a completely separate bank acct for Medicaid, etc for indigent people. A specific account for them, rather than robbing Social Security.
Imagine what our payments would be without the b'jillions draining it dry. Moving to "No Tax on Social Securty" will help, but it's too little too late.
