Elon Musk’s X / Twitter has had many controversial changes and new features since the Tesla boss took over in October 2022 (such as the ability to let users view the tweets of accounts blocking them), but one of the latest tools on the social media platform is causing issues for accounts which are a part of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
In a post to the site on Saturday (22 November), X’s head of product Nikita Bier announced the global rollout of ‘About This Account’ – a feature found by tapping an account’s sign-up date to see where in a country or region the user is located.
“This is an important first step to securing the integrity of the global town square,” he wrote. “We plan to provide many more ways for users to verify the authenticity of the content they see on X.
“And for those in countries where speech has penalties, we’ve included privacy toggles to only show your region.”

An urgent safety alert has been issued at wind farms across Australia after asbestos was discovered in Chinese-made wind turbines.
The deadly material was first found in brake pads used in wind turbine tower lifts at the Goldwind Cattle Hill wind farm in central Tasmania.
WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork NSW confirmed on Friday that white asbestos was also found at a number of wind farm sites.
The state regulators, along with renewable energy company Goldwind Australia, launched an investigation into the issue.
Goldwind, which is a subsidiary of Chinese firm Goldwind Science and Technology, claimed the brake pads were supplied by 3S Industry.
3S Industry is a major Chinese-based supplier and one of a few brake pad suppliers in Australia.
The supplier has provided brake pads to numerous wind farms across the country and has been involved in several projects, including White Rock, Gullen Range and Biala in NSW, Clarke Creek in Queensland, and Moorabool and Stockyard Hill in Victoria.
The discovery has sparked fears the problem could be more widespread, with the hazardous material potentially affecting turbines throughout the country.

Andrew Brown was sitting on a wall on Bondi Beach last November wearing a Fuck Israel Fuck Zionism t-shirt when two police officers approached. Although he made no effort to flee, he was arrested, handcuffed and led around Bondi before being plonked in a paddy wagon and taken to Waverley Police Station.
The station was just up the road near Bondi Junction but Brown said the trip took 40 minutes, whereupon he was then held in a cell for six hours, DNA tested despite refusing, fingerprinted, photographed, and his shirt was seized as DNA evidence.
A year later and costs hurtling towards $1m for the state and Brown, the former Mosman Deputy Mayor and businessman has refused approaches by the Police prosecutor to have offensive conduct charges dropped. He wants his day in court.
