Reform UK has gained its first member of the House of Lords following the defection of Lord Malcolm Offord of Garvel, a former Conservative life peer, during a rally in Falkirk, Scotland.
Nigel Farage announced the defection, describing it as "a brave and historic act" and stating that Lord Offord would elevate Reform UK Scotland to a new level.
Lord Offord, a Greenock-born businessman, was made a life peer in 2021 by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson and served as Minister of State for Scotland and Minister of State for Exports between 2021 and 2024.
He confirmed his resignation from the Conservative Party and his intention to stand as a candidate for Reform UK in the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections.
He plans to campaign tirelessly for two objectives: removing the SNP government after 18 years and presenting a positive vision for Scotland within the UK to restore it as a prosperous, proud, healthy, and happy country.
Lord Offord also revealed he will give up his seat in the House of Lords to focus on the Holyrood campaign.
This move marks a significant high-profile defection for Reform UK in Scotland, following previous departures such as Scottish Tory MSP Graham Simpson.
