Polish president gifted Zelensky book on Ukrainian Nazi crimes – media

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has given Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky a study on the World War II-era Volhynia Massacre carried out by Ukrainian Nazi collaborators, according to media outlets and images circulating on the internet.
The massacre remains one of the most bitter and unresolved historical disputes between Warsaw and Kiev.
The gift, seen during talks in Warsaw on Friday and later given to Zelensky, is a two-volume publication titled ‘Documents of the Volhynia Massacre’, produced by Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), which Nawrocki previously chaired, according to Polish outlets. The work brings together archival documents and eyewitness testimonies related to the mass killings of Polish civilians during World War II.
The Volhynia Massacre refers to events in 1943-45, when units of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which collaborated with German Nazis, systematically slaughtered ethnic Poles in what is now western Ukraine.
An estimated 40,000 to 100,000 Poles were murdered by the UPA. Poland officially classifies the killings as genocide. Senior Polish officials have warned that Kiev’s refusal to address the issue could lead Poland to oppose Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Ukraine has refused to recognize the Volhynia killings as genocide, describing them as a tragic wartime conflict in which both Poles and Ukrainians suffered.
The gift is the latest reminder of persistent historical friction between Warsaw and Kiev despite Poland’s support for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
Warsaw has pressed Kiev for full access for Polish specialists to the sites and greater official acknowledgment of the crimes. Ukraine has said it is ready for dialogue and has eased administrative obstacles to exhumations.

Reuters spreads lies and propaganda to prolong Ukraine conflict – Gabbard

US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has accused European NATO states of trying to pull Washington into a direct confrontation with Russia and slammed Reuters for “fomenting hysteria” in order to sell war.
Russia has rejected claims that it plans to attack EU countries, describing them as warmongering tactics used by Western politicians to justify inflated military budgets.
This week, President Vladimir Putin once again dismissed the claims as “lies and nonsense.”
Yet in a report published on Friday, Reuters claimed that “Putin intends to capture all of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe that belonged to the former Soviet empire,” citing anonymous sources allegedly “familiar with US intelligence.”
“No, this is a lie and propaganda Reuters is willingly pushing on behalf of warmongers who want to undermine President Trump’s tireless efforts to end this bloody war that has resulted in more than a million casualties on both sides,” Gabbard retorted in a post on X.
Dangerously, you are promoting this false narrative to block President Trump’s peace efforts and foment hysteria and fear among the people to get them to support the escalation of war, which is what NATO and the EU really want in order to pull the United States military directly into war with Russia.
According to Gabbard, US intelligence assessments instead indicate that Russia “seeks to avoid a larger war with NATO” and lacks the capacity to wage one even if it wanted to.
Moscow insists it is defending its citizens in the Ukraine conflict and has accused NATO of provoking hostilities and derailing US-backed peace initiatives.
Putin, who has denied having any intention to restore the Soviet Union, has accused NATO countries of “preparing for a major war” by building up and modernizing offensive forces while “brainwashing” their populations with claims that a clash with Russia is inevitable.
Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, who is currently engaged in Ukraine peace talks with US interlocutors in Miami, praised Gabbard as a voice of reason.
“Gabbard is great not only for documenting the Obama/Biden origins of the Russia hoax, but now for exposing the deep-state warmonger machinery trying to incite WW3 by fueling anti-Russian paranoia across the UK and EU,” Dmitriev wrote on X.

Drone with Russian flag spotted in sky over Kiev

A drone with a Russian flag attached was spotted in the sky over Kiev on Saturday, DPA reported, citing police in the Ukrainian capital.
The drone was launched by unknown individuals. The police are investigating the case.
Videos of the drone are circulating on social media.
The display of Russian symbols in Ukraine is prohibited - nearly four years after the country was attacked by its larger neighbor, DPA notes.
Russia has moved its plans for direct aggression from 2030 to 2027, and Europe is increasingly vocal about the risk of direct conflict, in which the Baltic states could find themselves under occupation.
This is stated by Lieutenant General Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Budanov commented on the issue in an open discussion on the LB club forum, quoted by FOCUS.
Budanov claims that Moscow does not have many opportunities to expand its influence.
"To the north - only the Arctic Ocean and further in the circle - the USA. Not an option, because it will harm. To the east - the Pacific Ocean and again the USA. The answer is the same.
To the south - China, it will be completely catastrophic - the land border, the same conditions as we have in the war with the Russian Federation, only for them.
Only the West remains, which in their understanding is, forgive me for the phrases, "greedy", "sick", "weak" and "indecisive", Budanov points out.
The head of the Ukrainian intelligence service said that according to the original plan, Russia was supposed to be ready for action in 2030.
However, these plans have now been revised and the deadlines have been shortened to 2027.
According to Budanov, Russia is perceived as an empire that "always has to move somewhere to expand its influence and territory".
As for Poland, Budanov specifies that "it is not in the plans for occupation at the moment, but for military coups".
"Poland is now, according to the plans we know, considered exclusively for strikes, for a military campaign without occupation", he stated.
These warnings come at a time of increased diplomatic activity. A few days ago, the first summit of the EU's eastern flank countries was held in Helsinki, dedicated to the security and protection of the Union's and NATO's external borders, attended by representatives of Poland, Finland, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania and Bulgaria.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte also expressed serious concerns.
Speaking in Berlin, he said that the alliance was “Russia's next target and we are already in the risk zone“.
Rutte said that the bloc must act immediately to prevent another war in Europe, stressing that the threat from Russia was direct and growing.

Drone Strike on Darfur Market Leaves 10 Dead

At least 10 people were killed after a drone strike hit a crowded market in Sudan’s North Darfur state over the weekend, according to local first responders, who did not say who carried out the attack.
The incident comes during intensifying fighting in other parts of the country, prompting the evacuation of aid workers on Sunday from Kadugli, a besieged city in the south that has been severely affected by famine.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
The war has claimed tens of thousands of lives, displaced nearly 12 million people and triggered what the United Nations describes as the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis.
The North Darfur Emergency Rooms Council, part of a network of volunteer groups coordinating relief efforts across Sudan, said the drone attack struck Al-Harra market in the RSF-controlled town of Malha on Saturday.
The group reported that the strike sparked fires in shops and caused extensive property damage but did not identify those responsible. Neither the army nor the RSF immediately commented on the incident.
Fighting has increasingly centred on South Kordofan, where clashes have escalated in and around Kadugli, the state capital. A drone attack there last week killed eight people as they attempted to flee the army-held city.
A humanitarian worker operating in Kadugli told AFP on Sunday that all aid staff had been evacuated due to the deteriorating security situation.
The withdrawal followed a decision by the United Nations to relocate its logistics hub away from Kadugli, although the destination of the relocated staff was not disclosed.
Kadugli and the nearby town of Dilling have been under siege by paramilitary forces since the war began.
Last week, the RSF announced it had taken control of the Brno area, a key defensive position on the road linking Kadugli to Dilling.
After forcing the army out of El-Fasher in October, its last stronghold in Darfur, the RSF has redirected its efforts towards the resource-rich Kordofan region, a strategic link between army-held areas in the north and east and RSF-controlled Darfur in the west.
With communications cut in the area, the United Nations declared a famine in Kadugli last month.
Residents have reportedly been forced to search for food in nearby forests, according to accounts gathered by AFP.
The conflict has effectively split Sudan, with the army holding the north, east and centre of the country, while the RSF controls all five Darfur state capitals and, together with allied groups, parts of the south.

Drone incidents escalate as Turkey finds three UAVs in five days

Turkey shot down a drone that violated its airspace and discovered two more crashed drones over five days, marking an escalation in incidents linked to the spillover of Russia's war in Ukraine into the Black Sea region.
Turkish F-16 fighter jets intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle on Monday after it entered Turkish airspace from the Black Sea, the Ministry of National Defence said.
The drone was shot down near Çankırı, approximately 120 kilometres from Ankara, after it appeared to be out of control.
On Friday, authorities found a crashed drone near Kocaeli, about 30 kilometres south of Istanbul. The Interior Ministry said initial findings indicate the drone is a Russian-made Orlan-10 type used for reconnaissance and surveillance purposes.
A second crashed drone was discovered on Saturday in a field near Balıkesir, some three hours southwest of Istanbul, Turkish media reported.
Farmers found the drone and handed it over to authorities, who transported it to Ankara for analysis. The origin of the Balıkesir drone remains under investigation.
The ministry said the drone on Monday was destroyed "at the most appropriate place" after procedures were completed. Debris broke up into small pieces and scattered across a wide area, complicating recovery efforts.
"Due to the ongoing war … our interlocutors have been warned that both sides should be more careful about such negativities regarding the security of the Black Sea," the ministry said.
Air defence questions raised
The incidents raised questions about Turkey's air defence readiness, particularly after the first drone penetrated deep into Turkish airspace before being intercepted.
Namık Tan, an opposition CHP deputy and former ambassador, questioned whether Turkey's radar system was sufficient to detect a drone capable of coming close to the capital and critical defence facilities.
The defence ministry rejected the criticism, saying that Turkey's airspace control operates continuously, with radar, early warning, electronic warfare and interception systems working in a layered architecture.
"The process regarding the UAV in question was successfully managed and finalised," the ministry said. "The allegations that our air defence system is weak do not reflect the truth."

Syrian authorities foil drone and explosives smuggling plot outside Damascus

Syria's interior ministry announced it had foiled an attempt to smuggle drones and explosives to armed groups operating outside state control, including cells linked to the so-called Islamic State group and factions connected to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In a statement, the ministry said a joint security operation was carried out in the Qudsaya area of the Damascus countryside by specialised units working with security forces from neighbouring Daraa province.
Ahmed al-Dalati, commander of internal security in the Rif Dimashq governorate, said five people were arrested on suspicion of smuggling weapons on behalf of "outlawed groups" in Suweida, SDF-controlled areas and cells linked to the Islamic State.
He said the operation followed "precise intelligence" about suspicious activity at a farm. Security forces moved to the site, imposed a cordon and carried out a raid.
According to the statement, officers seized FPV-type drones with their accessories, around 1.5 tonnes of TNT explosives and anti-personnel charges weighing about two kilogrammes each, which were allegedly prepared for use in suicide drones.
Al-Dalati said all seized items had been confiscated and the suspects referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation ahead of legal proceedings.
The announcement comes amid continued security operations by the Syrian authorities against Islamic State cells in recent months, according to official statements.
Since the ousting of former president Bashar al-Assad, armed groups described by Damascus as operating outside the law have spread in Suweida, some adopting separatist positions and rejecting integration into state institutions, despite what the government says are gains in restoring diplomatic and economic ties.
At the same time, the SDF has yet to fully implement an agreement reached with the government in Damascus in March to integrate into state institutions. Internal debates within the group have intensified, with some voices calling for decentralised or federal arrangements.
Syrian officials and allied figures accuse these groups of pursuing external agendas and seeking backing from hostile actors to undermine stability, weaken the state and fuel internal divisions, allegations that those groups have previously rejected.

Did a rash of 1940s sightings lead to plans for a national UFO conference in Louisiana?

During the Atomic Age, launched in 1945, the detonation of the atomic bomb ushered in Cold War politics, nuclear energy and Godzilla.
That's also when objects began appearing seemingly en masse in the sky throughout Louisiana, particularly in Alexandria, a fact that prompted Kyle Watt's inquiry.
"I once heard that a national conference on UFOs was once organized in Alexandria but never happened," the Zachary resident said. "It was supposed to happen in the 1940s. Is this true? And if it is, why not?"
Yes, it's true, and the year was 1947, long before the 2020s, when popularity of unidentified flying objects have soared to an all-time high through such popular television series as "Ancient Aliens."
These days, the mysterious flying machines are officially known as unidentified anomalous phenomena or unidentified aerial phenomena, but most people still use the term UFO.
Mention UFO, and people begin thinking of spaceships, specifically flying saucers.
"And that's what most people were reporting in Louisiana in 1947 — saucer-shaped spaceships," said Michael Wynne, author and central Louisiana historian.
"There were so many of these sightings, and they were all reported by Alexandria's local newspaper, The Town Talk."
The UFO capital of the world
In fact, it was the newspaper's managing editor and columnist, Adras Laborde, who organized the national conference.
Laborde was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in 2012 after a career stretching from the mid 1940s to the early 1990s.
He was fairly new at the newspaper when he supported the idea of staging a national UFO conference at Alexandria's downtown grand hotel, the Hotel Bentley.
"He was one of its biggest promoters," Wynne said. "It was going to be the first of its kind, but it didn't happen. Why?
Because Adras Laborde and his committee required at least 10 out-of-state people who had made sightings to commit to coming to Alexandria, but they only two out-of-state people signed up."
Meanwhile, almost 80 Louisianans who had filed sightings registered for the event. And central Louisianans continued filing their reports.
Wynne has transcribed these reports in his book, "It Came From Outer Space!: Flying Saucers Visits To Louisiana," for which he did extensive research not only on the conference but the sightings.
"The mass sightings were only for a short period, from August to December in 1947," Wynne said. "Adras had scheduled the conference for December of that year.
Alexandria was considered the UFO capital of the world, and it's kind of ridiculous to have called off the conference because they only had two out-of-state people who signed up between 60 and 80 in-state people who had committed to it."
A phenomenon in the sky
But, as noted in Wynne's book, sightings were taking place throughout the state, one as far back as 1801.
"The first documented sighting was in a letter sent to Thomas Jefferson in 1801," Wynne said. "And that sighting was in Baton Rouge."
The letter was from Natchez, Mississippi, resident Thomas Dunbar, who sent it about a month before Jefferson's presidential inauguration. Jefferson also was serving as president of the American Philosophical Society, which was founded by Benjamin Franklin.
The organization published Dunbar's letter in Volume 6 of its newsletter, "Transactions of the American Philosophical Society."

"Dunbar was a member of the society and was also a diligent investigator of natural phenomena in the lower Louisiana region, which, at the time, was still Spanish territory," Wynne said.
The phenomenon allegedly passed in Baton Rouge at night on April 5, 1800. Dunbar's description of the sighting is detailed:
"It was first seen in the South West, and moved so rapidly, passing over the heads of the spectators, as to disappear in the North East in about a quarter of a minute. It appeared to be of the size of a large house, 70 or 80 feet long. …
"It appeared to be about 200 yards above the surface of the earth, wholly luminous, but not emitting sparks; of a colour resembling the sun near the horizon in a cold frosty evening, which may be called a crimson red.
When passing right over the heads of the spectators, the light on the surface of the earth, was little short of the effect of sun-beams, though at the same time, looking another way, the stars were visible, which appears to be a confirmation of the opinion formed of its moderate elevation.
In passing, a considerable degree of heat was felt but no electric sensation."
The Air Force gets involved
The object was seen crashing in a wooded area, but caused no cataclysmic damage. Could it have been a meteorite? Wynne says no.
"It is believed that what Dunbar describes, if accurate, was not a meteorite, because an object of this size, entering Earth's atmosphere at a speed typical of objects falling to earth from space, would have left a much larger trace of itself," Wynne said.
"For example, scientists estimate the size of the iron meteor that created Arizona's Meteor Crater at roughly 50 meters."
As for the reason for the influx of 1940s UFO sightings in central Louisiana, Wynne said there is no definitive explanation.
The area was home to England Air Force Base, which logged the reports through the Air Force's Project Blue Book, which have recently been released by the National Archives.
"And the sightings were extremely detailed, not only the statements from the people, but also in how the Air Force addresses these cases," Wynne said. "And then the Air Force, in turn, investigated the people who reported the sightings."
Wynne also researched data from the National UFO Reporting Center, which documented reports from throughout Louisiana.
"It's just raw data that hasn't been investigated," he said.
Flying objects with orange lights
Finally, he zeroed in on central Louisiana through The Town Talk's barrage of news reports.
"The Air Force would just downplay them, saying, 'Oh, there was a weather balloon or there were airplanes in the area, and we can't talk about it at this time," Wynne said.
"But the accounts just proliferated from, from '47 through as late as 1955. In fact, the sightings became so overwhelming that they became old hat. People stopped paying attention, and it just died out."
That is, until 1978, when Steven Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" hit movie theaters.
"That reinvigorated the sightings," Wynne said. "People weren't embarrassed to talk about them anymore."
Looking now at all the descriptions, Wynne has found a running theme — most people identified the flying objects as saucer-shaped with orange lights.
Did they really see these spaceships? Well, the people who saw them apparently believed it, so much that they were willing to bear witness at a national conference.

The Black Vault has successfully obtained a new release of a previously heavily redacted document, which sheds new light on a military manual concerning Joint Psychological Operations Task Force (JPOTF) headquarters training.
The document, originally requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case 09-F-1583 in 2009, and partially released in 2014, contained multiple redactions under FOIA exemption (b)(2), primarily concerning internal personnel rules and practices of an agency.
However, following a 2016 case filed by The Black Vault to request a re-review under 16-F-1727, the document has now been released in full, with no redactions.
Exemption (b)(2) is often cited to protect sensitive information related to internal rules, processes, and management of an agency, particularly when disclosure would risk circumvention of those rules.
In the original release of the document, these redactions appeared throughout, obscuring details of how JPOTF headquarters operate during psychological operations (PSYOP), including its organizational structure, training methodology, and mission-related tasks.
The 2016 re-review of the document resulted in a full release with no redactions. This version, now available for download below, includes significant information previously withheld.
The document, titled “Joint Psychological Operations Task Force Headquarters Master Training Guide,” provides comprehensive guidance for military leaders on training and organizing PSYOP units.
