>Electric rail guns?!?

DUH! how did you imagine they worked?

ISTS was originally called the Westinghouse Science Talent Search (WSTS)

and was held each year in pittsburgh

the local tv affiliate belonging to westinghouse would broadcast the finalists live

anon remebers watching the show in the late 60s, the year that a high school student demonstrated the FIRST rail gun

that's right, it was invented by a high school student

tho at the time it was not envisioned primarily as a weapon

>I mean they still haven't moved back into chernoble yet?

quantity & quality

the bombs dropped on japan contained a few kilos of fissile mat'l that was consumed during detonation

the air burs dispersed the fission products Cs-137 and Sr-90 over a huge area, and are relatively short lived, and their compounds are water soluble

chernobyl realeased 1000 times more radioactive mat'l, primarily uranium, which is extremely long lived, and forms mostly insoluble compounds that don't wash away, from essentially a point source on the surface
