German troops 'to touch down in Greenland in a matter of hours' as Danish leader says country is still stuck in a 'fundamental disagreement' with the US over the island after 'frank' meeting
Denmark and the US are stuck in a 'fundamental disagreement' over Greenland after leaders from both countries met for talks in Washington earlier today.
Danish foreign minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said the meeting with vice president JD Vance and secretary of state Marco Rubio was 'frank' and 'constructive' but admitted work was needed to 'find a common way forward'.
'The discussions focused on how to ensure the long-term security in Greenland, and here our perspectives continue to differ,' Mr Rasmussen told reporters after joining Greenland's foreign minister, Vivian Motzfeldt, for the talks.
'I must say the president has made his view clear and we have a different position,' he added.
Donald Trump is trying to make the case to seize control of the island because of its location, its mineral resources and rising Russian and Chinese military activity in the region - and has not ruled out the use of force.
His warnings have ignited worry among European countries, especially following the US attack on Venezuela last week.
Danish defense minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced an increase in Denmark's 'military presence and exercise activity' on Greenland on Tuesday, while soldiers from from Sweden are also en route.
Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson wrote on X on Wednesday that, 'Some officers from the Swedish Armed Forces are arriving in Greenland today,' as part of a group from several allied countries.
And Germany is also reportedly planning to send troops to the island as part of a 'reconnaissance team' seeking to 'deter potential external aggressors and protect the alliance's territory', German news outlet Bild reported.
The team will comprise of 13 members of the Bundeswehr - Germany's Armed Forces - and they will only stay in the country for two days, according to the BBC.

As alleged in court documents and statements made in court, the DEA New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and Bristol Police Department have been investigating a narcotics trafficking enterprise headed by Ocasio. The investigation revealed that Ocasio, with the assistance of Rosado-Ortiz and Jassor, who formerly resided in Connecticut, acquired and distributed fentanyl, cocaine, crack-cocaine, counterfeit pills pressed with fentanyl, and pharmaceuticals including oxycodone, Adderall, and Xanax. Ocasio employed, and frequently rented vehicles for, Jankowski, Risucci, Warkoski, Riback, Mastroianni, Pinette, and Deprey as “drug runners” to conduct drug transactions on his behalf. Muhammad helped facilitate narcotics transactions for Ocasio and also distributed drugs that he acquired from Ocasio to his own customer base.
It is alleged that the investigation has connected five overdose deaths in Bristol and one overdose death in Berlin, which occurred between April 2024 and May 2025, to Ocasio’s drug trafficking network.
Ocasio and Rosado-Ortiz were arrested on a federal criminal complaints on December 4, 2025. On that date, a search of Ocasio’s residence revealed approximately $440,000 in cash and watches and jewelry valued at approximately $270,000. A search of Rosado-Ortiz’s residence revealed approximately two kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of crack cocaine, 250 grams of fentanyl, 200 grams of methamphetamine, 2,500 oxycodone pills, 500 Xanax and Adderall pills, tabs of LSD, one ounce of ketamine, 25 empty kilogram wrappers that field tested positive for the presence of cocaine, an AR-15 style rifle, a ghost gun, $10,000 in jewelry, and $7,260 in cash.
On January 7, 2026, a federal grand jury in Bridgeport returned an indictment charging each of the defendants with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, controlled substances. If convicted of this charge, based on the type and quantity of drug attributed to each defendant, Ocasio, Rosado-Ortiz, Risucci, Riback, and Mastroianni face a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of life; Jankowski, Pinette, and Deprey face a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years; and Jassor, Warkoski, and Muhammad face a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.

Somali Suitcase Stash: Feds say $130 million moved from Ohio airport to Minnesota on way overseas
Officials told Just the News that Transportation Security Administration agents tracked and flagged about $136 million in bulk cash in outbound luggage at the passenger checkpoints at John Glenn Columbus International Airport since November 2023. This follows reports that millions of dollars were discovered leaving Minnesota airports.
Federal agents investigating a Somali immigrant operation that moved massive amounts of cash in suitcases from the Minneapolis airport to overseas have uncovered a new leg of the courier journey: the Columbus, Ohio airport.
Homeland Security Department officials told Just the News that Transportation Security Administration officers tracked and flagged about $136 million in bulk cash in outbound luggage at the passenger checkpoints at John Glenn Columbus International Airport since November 2023.
The cash movements were made by U.S. citizens of Somali origin who flew out of the Columbus airport en route to either the airports in Minneapolis or Atlanta, and the couriers always declared the cash as legally required on documents, officials said.
"Typically, when they go to Minneapolis, they drop off the cash and then a subsequent courier travels abroad from Minneapolis to Dubai through Amsterdam," one official familiar with the investigation told Just the News on Tuesday, speaking only on condition of anonymity.
Multiple Somali communities involved
The officials said they appear to have uncovered a massive cash movement operation that gathered money from multiple Somali immigrant communities in the West, Midwest and South that eventually brought luggage filled with currency to Minneapolis for flights overseas.
Just the News reported exclusively last week that TSA detected nearly $700 million in cash in luggage leaving the Minneapolis airport in 2024 and 2025, frequently headed on a route to Amsterdam and then Dubai where U.S. officials lost the tracking. The TSA agents routinely alerted investigators during the Biden years, but there was little interest in probing the money movements further until President Donald Trump took office last year.
The cash movements out of Minnesota's largest airports by the Somali immigrant couriers were 90 to 99 times larger than the total amounts moved out of major international airports like John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City or Seattle and Atlanta, officials said.
As investigators began tracking the money backwards throughout its journey, they discovered the operation in Columbus, officials said Tuesday.

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky., has taken note of the Just the News reporting, revealing to popular podcaster Joe Rogan this week he is launching an investigation to see if the exports of cash were tied to the fraud.
"The Somalis were so good at it that they were sending hundreds of millions of dollars back overseas," Paul told Rogan in a podcast that aired Tuesday. "So I think we are at the tip of the iceberg."
"You have to check off a box when it goes through the airport, and they weren't even hiding that they were sending it back. So the poor Somalis sent like $700 million over the last couple of years," he added.
The revelations of a massive money movement operation based in America's Somali immigrant communities come amidst an investigation by federal prosecutors in Minnesota into a fraud scheme estimated to have fleeced taxpayers of as much as $9 billion in welfare that predominantly went to Somali immigrants in the Minneapolis area.
That scandal has ended Gov. Tim Walz's political ambitions, forcing the Minnesota Democrat to abandon plans to run for re-election in 2026. It also has prompted President Donald Trump to end special immigration status for Somalians seeking refuge in the U.S., and launched a major fraud investigation by the House Oversight Committee. That led the FBI and Homeland Security Department to send hundreds of agents to investigate.
More than 90 defendants, mostly of Somali descent, have been indicted, with about half already convicted of crimes, prosecutors said.

The number of child care workers in the United States has increased by roughly 33 percent over the past 12 years, even as the number of children age five and under has declined by nearly 9 percent, according to a Washington Examiner report that frames the trend as part of a broader political and policy issue extending beyond recent fraud allegations in Minnesota.
The report comes as Minnesota faces scrutiny over alleged fraud involving state-subsidized child care centers, many of them operated by members of the Somali community in Minneapolis. A viral video earlier this month by independent journalist Nick Shirley ignited investigations into certain publicly funded day care facilities.
The Washington Examiner argued that the growth of the child care industry is not primarily explained by demographic trends. The outlet reported that while the number of young children fell by 8.8 percent over the past 12 years, the child care workforce expanded by about 33 percent. The growth has continued even as the number of stay-at-home mothers has risen in recent years.
The report claims that Democrats over the past two decades have directed billions of dollars into the child care industry, often with support from labor unions that represent child care workers. The Examiner contends that public funding has been used as leverage to unionize child care workers, with unions then directing political spending back toward Democratic candidates and causes.
“When you hear a Democratic politician say they want ‘universal child care,’ or campaign on expanding ‘affordable, high-quality child care,’ you should suspect that they are playing patronage politics with the labor union allies,” the article stated.
Minnesota was cited as a prominent example following the 2022 election, when Gov. Tim Walz was reelected, and Democrats gained control of both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in a decade. With narrow majorities, lawmakers moved quickly in 2023 to expand child care subsidies, a series of actions supporters described as part of a “Minnesota Miracle.”
Advocacy groups played a significant role in lobbying for expanded subsidies. One such group, Isaiah, operates a lobbying initiative called “Kids Count on Us,” which focuses on increasing state funding for child care providers.
Among the changes approved by lawmakers was an increase in how much the state’s Child Care Assistance Program pays providers. Under the new law, reimbursements are set at the 75th percentile of market rates. Legislators also extended pandemic-era direct payments to child care providers through the “Great Start Compensation Support Payment Program,” a subsidy totaling about $100 million per year. According to the legislature, the program is “designed to support the child care and early learning industry and workforce.” The funds are paid directly to providers rather than to parents.
Other blue states have seen similar instances of officials expanding child care programs. In 2019, California Govenor Gavin Newsom signed a bill that essentially made tens of thousands of child care workers become state employees for union organizing purposes. The bill was pushed by the child care lobby called Child Care Providers United.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced it would freeze $10 billion in funding for childcare subsidies to Minnesota, New York, California, Illinois, and Colorado.
“Democrat-led states and governors have been complicit in allowing massive amounts of fraud to occur under their watch. Under the Trump administration, we are ensuring that federal taxpayer dollars are being used for legitimate purposes,” said HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon.

Britain has evacuated its ambassador and all embassy staff from Iran, a U.K. official said Wednesday, as U.S. President Donald Trump weighs launching strikes against the Islamist regime.
The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said the decision had been taken based on the assessment of the security situation and to prioritize the safety of staff.
A U.K. government spokesperson said: “We have temporarily closed the British Embassy in Tehran, this will now operate remotely.
“Foreign Office travel advice has now been updated to reflect this consular change.”
The move came shortly after the U.S. ordered the evacuation of some personnel from the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, its largest base in the Middle East, which hosts 10,000 U.S. troops.
A former U.S. official familiar with the situation said aircraft had also been moved. Reuters first reported the evacuation.
The U.K. already advises against all travel to Iran and for British nationals already in the country to “carefully consider” their continued presence.
Britain’s envoy to Iran was summoned alongside European diplomats on Monday to a fractious meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, European officials said. In turn, Britain’s Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer summoned Iran’s Ambassador to London for a meeting Tuesday.
Speaking to POLITICO on a tour of Finland and Norway — before the evacuation was public — U.K. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper praised Tehran’s “brave protesters, especially for women to be out protesting, who are facing such huge repression in their daily lives.”
With some protesters facing execution, she said: “Iran needs to understand the whole world is watching, and they need to end this violence. The idea that they would escalate the violence further with these executions is absolutely horrific.”
Cooper said her priority was sanctions and economic pressure on Iran rather than military strikes. However, she did not rule out allowing the U.S. to use British resources, including air bases, to launch such strikes.
