Jerome Powell's term as Chair of the Federal Reserve ends on May 15, 2026.
While his leadership role concludes then, he can continue serving as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors until January 31, 2028, as his board term expires on that date. Powell has not yet confirmed whether he will remain on the board after stepping down as chair.

William Stevenson, former first lady Jill Biden's ex-husband, was indicted on a murder charge connected to the death of his second wife late last year in Delaware, police said Tuesday. CBS News correspondent Shanelle Kaul has more.

William Stevenson, the former husband of former First Lady Jill Biden, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64. The arrest followed a weeks-long investigation by the New Castle County Police in Delaware after officers responded to a domestic dispute at their home in Oak Hill, Wilmington, on December 28, 2025. Linda Stevenson was found unresponsive in the living room and pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts. A cause of death has not been released, and her body was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
Stevenson, 77, was indicted by a grand jury on February 2, 2026, and taken into custody without incident on February 2. He is currently being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post a $500,000 cash bail.
Jill Biden, who married Stevenson in 1970 at age 18 and divorced him in 1975, has not publicly commented on the case. The Biden post-presidential office declined to comment. Stevenson previously disputed the Biden campaign’s account of how Jill met Joe Biden, alleging an affair in 1974.
