ICE Urges Newsom Not To Release 33,179 Criminal Illegal Immigrants Into Communities

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have requested the state of California and Gov. Gavin Newsom not to release over 33,000 criminal illegal immigrants with ICE detainers back into the streets, ICE said in a Feb. 6 statement

California’s failure to honor ICE detainers has resulted in the release of 4,561 criminal illegal immigrants since Jan. 20, ICE said in its statement.

“There are currently 33,179 aliens in the custody of a California jurisdiction with active detainers. The crimes of these aliens include 399 homicides, 3,313 assaults, 3,171 burglaries, 1,011 robberies, 8,380 dangerous drugs offenses, 1,984 weapons offenses, and 1,293 sexual predatory offenses.”

Some of the illegal immigrants already released from California jails into communities include a Mexican national arrested for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age, a Chinese national arrested for sexual battery, a Mexican national who has been arrested for a sex offender violation, and a Guatemalan convicted of first-degree murder.

DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin accused Newsom and other “sanctuary politicians” in the state of putting American lives at risk by releasing criminals into neighborhoods.

“Criminal illegal aliens should not be released from jails back onto our streets to terrorize more innocent Americans. If we work together, we can make America safe again. 7 of the 10 safest cities in the U.S. cooperate with ICE law enforcement,” McLaughlin said.

Sydney is on the brink with thousands expected to defy restrictions to protest the visit of Israel’s President in Australia to honour the Bondi attack victims.

Commuters are being warned to avoid Sydney’s CBD on Monday afternoon as up to 5000 people are expected to defy protest restrictions to rally against Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s state visit.

Noach Koncepolski, an Australian rabbi based in the eastern suburbs, has welcomed Mr Herzog’s visit, saying his presence had been widely requested from members of the Jewish community.

The Israeli President’s visit was a signal members of the Jewish community could be “proud of what they believe in”, he told NewsWire.

“The message that I tell people today, even if you are opposed to the visit or you’re feeling antagonistic about it, the community is grieving,” Rabbi Koncepolski said.

“They’ve indicated that the visit of the President will be beneficial to them, and if that’s what they want, we can oppose, we can protest, we are a free country, but do it with a bit of grace.”

Mr Koncepolski, who was born and raised in Australia, said his community had rallied together in the wake of the terror attack, with many reclaiming their Jewish identities publicly.

Referring to community members wearing the Star of David, he said: “Before, we thought if we would hide, we would be safe. That’s not the case anymore.”

High Court of Australia case challenges corrupt election funding laws

WILL the High Court of Australia strike down Victoria’s strict caps on political donations that favour the major parties, and the Labor Party in particular.

The so-called “law” says unions and whomever can donate millions to the big three parties, but an individual can only donate a maximum of $4000.

The case is part of a wider move by independents fighting plans to curb their fundraising, with former federal politicians Zoe Daniel and Rex Patrick also recently filing an application to the High Court to challenge federal caps on donations.

But last week the High Court case was centred on Victoria, where individual donations are now capped at $4,900 every four years.

Lawyers for independent candidates Melissa Lowe and Paul Hopper say the legislated rule places a burden on the implied freedom of political communication under the Constitution.

The problem is that the same rule does not apply to the major parties, which can draw from nominated fundraising entities, such as the Liberals’ Cormack Foundation and Labor’s Labor Services and Holdings, which can make large donations to campaigns above the cap.

“These laws are anti-democratic and unfair, entrenching massive financial advantages to the major parties and denying a level playing field to independent and minor party candidates,” Ms Lowe told the ABC.

“They are a rort designed to entrench the major party duopoly at the very time they attract lower support than ever from Victorian voters.”

Independent candidates like Victorian Ian Cook, who has been fighting a long legal battle against the Victorian Labor Government over its corrupt dealings with councils over aged care meal services, is supporting the challenge. Cook ran as an independent in former Premier Daniel Andrews’ seat at the last Victorian election.

Under the present laws if someone donates anything over $1000 they automatically identify themselves. But unionists and others behind the major parties can simply rely on their unions to do the election funding job.

According to our source, the Federal Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus is also going to try to enter the fray as it appears that the Federal Government wants the same sort of set-up for federal elections, which is essentially a way of ensuring that the UnaParties stay in power.

Mr Hopper said the 2022 Victorian election was rigged against the minor anti-Labor parties – a reference to the group voting tickets system used for elections only in the Victorian Upper House that funnels votes to minor parties like Animal Justice and Legalise Cannabis who currently give the Labor Government a majority in the Upper House.

NIH Allocates $10 Million For Research In East Palestine Three Years After Toxic Train Crash

Three years have passed since a Norfolk Southern freight train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in East Palestine, an eastern Ohio village near the Pennsylvania border.

On Feb. 3, the disaster’s third anniversary, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) held a grand opening ceremony for the East Palestine Train Derailment Health Research Program Office.

The office will serve as the home to a five-year, $10 million research initiative to assess and address the long-term health outcomes stemming from the derailment.

“NIH’s research hub offers the people of East Palestine a pathway to clear answers about their health they deserve,” said Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“Everyone affected by this environmental disaster deserves access to independent, gold-standard science that puts their well-being first.”

Life in East Palestine abruptly changed around 9 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2023.

The crew of a Norfolk Southern Railway freight train carrying 151 cars saw smoke and fire, and realized that 38 cars had derailed.

The flammable, toxic chemicals in 11 derailed cars had ignited, with flames spreading to an additional 12 cars.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, nine cars were carrying hazardous materials in addition to the 11 that derailed.

The hazardous chemicals, including vinyl chloride in some of the rail cars, began to spill onto the ground and into the air.

Vinyl chloride is used to make PVC pipes and other products.

The National Cancer Institute notes that the toxic chemical has been linked to cancers of the brain, lungs, blood, lymphatic system, and liver.

Vinyl chloride creates carbon monoxide and hydrogen chloride when it burns.

When the latter mixes with water, it generates hydrochloric acid, a corrosive substance that can burn the skin and eyes, and is toxic if inhaled.

FBI concluded Jeffrey Epstein wasn't running a sex trafficking ring for powerful men, files show

The FBI pored over Jeffrey Epstein's bank records and emails. It searched his homes. It spent years interviewing his victims and examining his connections to some of the world's most influential people.

But while investigators collected ample proof that Epstein sexually abused underage girls, they found scant evidence the well-connected financier led a sex trafficking ring serving powerful men, an Associated Press review of internal Justice Department records shows.

Videos and photos seized from Epstein's homes in New York, Florida and the Virgin Islands didn't depict victims being abused or implicate anyone else in his crimes, a prosecutor wrote in one 2025 memo.

An examination of Epstein's financial records, including payments he made to entities linked to influential figures in academia, finance and global diplomacy, found no connection to criminal activity, said another internal memo in 2019.

While one Epstein victim made highly public claims that he "lent her" to his rich friends, agents couldn't confirm that and found no other victims telling a similar story, the records said.

Summarising the investigation in an email last July, agents said "four or five" Epstein accusers claimed other men or women had sexually abused them. But, the agents said, there "was not enough evidence to federally charge these individuals, so the cases were referred to local law enforcement."

Dozens of victims come forward

The Epstein investigation began in 2005, when the parents of a 14-year-old girl reported she had been molested at the millionaire's home in Palm Beach, Florida.

Police would identify at least 35 girls with similar stories: Epstein was paying high school age students US$200 or US$300 (about $285 to $428) to give him sexualised massages.

After the FBI joined the probe, federal prosecutors drafted indictments to charge Epstein and some personal assistants who had arranged the girls' visits and payments. But instead, then-Miami US attorney Alexander Acosta struck a deal letting Epstein plead guilty to state charges of soliciting prostitution from an underage girl. Sentenced to 18 months in jail, Epstein was free by mid-2009.

Former West Wing star Timothy Busfield indicted on four counts of sexual contact with a child by grand jury

Timothy Busfield has been indicted on four counts of sexual contact with a child by grand jury in New Mexico.

Busfield, 68, is accused of touching two children on the set of The Cleaning Lady while filming in Albuquerque between November 2022 and spring 2024.

One of the alleged victims told a forensic child interviewer that Busfield touched his ‘private areas’ on set when he was seven years old, according to a criminal complaint.

The boy alleged the abuse happened five or six times between sets.

He claimed Busfield assaulted him again when he was eight years old, claiming it happened three or four times.

The boy’s twin brother told authorities he was also touched by Busfield, but he did not specify where and didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to get in trouble, the complaint said.

The charges come less than a month after Busfield was arrested for alleged child abuse and criminal sexual contact of a minor.

Busfield has denied the allegations. His attorneys have also argued the allegations are part of a revenge plot manufactured by the boys’ parents after the children lost their roles in the TV series.

3 Rockledge daycare workers arrested on child abuse charges, police say

Three daycare employees were arrested on Friday following accusations of child abuse at the Gingerbread Manor Child Care in Rockledge.

The Rockledge Police Department arrested Stacy Elaine Hamilton and Nativia Latrice King on three counts of aggravated child abuse and tampering with a witness.

Kia Kristen Walker was also charged with one count of aggravated child abuse and tampering with a witness.

Rockledge Police say the Department of Child and Family is also investigating the alleged crimes, citing that the investigation is open and active.

"We are asking any families who believe their children may have been a victim of a crime while attending Gingerbread Manor Child Care to please contact Sgt. Natalia Turbeville at 321-690-3988," the police said in a news release.

All three suspects appeared on Saturday before a judge but were released pending pretrial.

Hamilton, King, and Walker have scheduled court dates scheduled for March 3, 2026.

Former Jefferson County Public Schools counselor pleads guilty to child sex assault

Chloe Rose Castro took a deal and pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust

A former Jefferson County Public Schools social worker took a deal and pleaded guilty Monday to sexually assaulting a child, court records show.

Chloe Rose Castro, a 29-year-old woman from Lakewood, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a felony, according to Jefferson County court records. The plea deal dropped a second child sex assault charge and one count of internet luring of a child from her case, court records show.

The woman faces an open-ended, or “indeterminate,” sentence that will last from a minimum of four years to a maximum of life in prison when she is sentenced on April 2, according to a news release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Castro was arrested in November 2024 after the victim’s parents found “evidence of a sexual relationship” and reported Castro to the Arvada Police Department, prosecutors said in the release.

The parents told police that they found inappropriate social media messages between their child and Castro, according to an arrest affidavit. Police said the student attended an online school at the time, but he often met Castro behind the Apex Center — a recreation center in Arvada.

The unidentified student, who was younger than 15 when the assault happened, said Castro “really understood him” and that “she was the only person he could trust.” He said they had plans to move to California and New Mexico to “create a new life together,” according to the affidavit.

Castro and the student met outside of school for the first time in May 2024, police stated in the affidavit. They often met in a spot behind the recreation center, where they would kiss and touch each other, according to the document. They also met in Castro’s office at least once.

The two would text and exchange messages on Instagram, including nude photos, according to the arrest affidavit. They deleted the messages nightly out of fear of being caught, police said.

Former West Middle School teacher charged with child sex crimes gets bond, home detention ordered

A former West Middle School teacher who was charged with several child sex crimes last month was given a home-detention order after he received a bond.

Zachary Hutchinson, 38, of Columbia, was charged on Jan. 21 in Boone County with three counts of second-degree statutory sodomy, one count of child enticement, sexually exploiting a minor, giving pornographic material to a minor (a misdemeanor), second-degree promoting child porn and possessing child porn.

His bond was amended to $25,000 on Tuesday, according to court filings. He is not currently listed on the Boone County Jail roster. He was ordered to home detention on Tuesday under the supervision of Adult Court Services.

He is not allowed to have access to any electronics or use the internet and cannot have no contact with the victim or other children, court filings show.

Juvenile detention center supervision officer arrested on child sexual assault charges, LCSO says

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A juvenile supervision officer at a juvenile detention center has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child, according to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies with LCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division obtained multiple arrest warrants for Justice Malachi Johnson on Jan. 28. He’s also charged with indecency with a child by sexual contact. Both charges are second degree felonies.

According to a press release, LCSO discovered Johnson’s employment at the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center during their investigation. The department coordinated with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office to arrest Johnson. He was booked in the Hays County Jail and released several days later, online jail records show.

Further details were not immediately available, and it’s unclear whether the alleged assault happened in Llano County.

“The protection of our children is paramount, and the Llano County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to thoroughly investigating allegations of crimes against children and holding offenders accountable,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Attorney information for Johnson is not yet available. KXAN will reach out to his attorney for comment when that information becomes available.
