EU urges Ukraine to ‘repair’ Russian oil pipeline

Moscow and Budapest have insisted that it is operational and Kiev is halting supplies for “political reasons”

(When the EU starts telling Zelensky to do the right thing, means the EU knows how crazy he is. Ukraine will never be allowed to be in the EU or NATO. Z went too far!)

The EU wants answers from Ukraine about when it will be able to repair the Druzhba oil pipeline that delivers Russian crude to Hungary and Slovakia, European Commission spokeswoman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen has said.

The transit of oil via the pipeline has remained on hold since late January, with Kiev blaming Russia for damaging the infrastructure. Moscow has denied the allegation and has accused Ukraine of using energy blackmail against Hungary.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also insisted last week that the Druzhba pipeline remains in working order and the Ukrainian authorities aren’t restating the deliveries for “political reasons.”

Kiev is “jeopardizing our energy security” because it wants to put the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which opposes Ukraine’s membership in the EU, in a “difficult position,” ahead of the parliamentary election in April, the diplomat said.

Itkonen told journalists on Tuesday that the European Commission is in contact with Ukraine to discuss the timeline for getting the Druzhba oil pipeline up and running.

There are currently “no short-term risks to security of supply for Hungary and Slovakia” as they hold 90 days of reserve oil stocks, she said.

Brussels, however, is ready to set up an emergency coordination group to discuss alternative routes to supply oil to the two countries, the spokeswoman added.

The landlocked nations insist that it is impossible for them to fully satisfy their energy needs without Russian deliveries.

Szijjarto said last week that Hungary and Slovakia have asked Croatia to use the Adria pipeline to transport Russian oil. On Monday, Croatian Economy Minister Ante Susnjar confirmed Zagreb’s approval, saying that it “will not allow Central Europe's fuel supply to be endangered.”

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico warned on Wednesday that Bratislava could stop supplying electricity to Ukraine if Kiev fails to restart the flow of oil through the Druzhba pipeline.

Ukrainian nuclear power plant unsafe – source

The facility’s management is reportedly concealing critical technical issues which pose a potential threat

Management at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (SUNPP), in coordination with the state-owned company Energoatom,is reportedly concealing serious technical problems from regulators, a source has told RT, noting that the issues pose a potential threat to the facility’s safe operation.

These significant risks, which are reportedly being hidden from Ukraine’s nuclear regulator, the IAEA, and the World Association of Nuclear Operators, stem from the poor condition of critical electrical equipment. A number of distribution and transformer units are said to have exceeded their maximum service life, with repairs often being carried out using components salvaged from even older equipment.

Furthermore, there is allegedly no technical confirmation of the functional readiness of the spray ponds used for the emergency cooling of the reactor island. Routine maintenance on these systems has reportedly not been conducted for at least four years.

The SUNPP is located far from the front in Nikolaev Region and has not been directly targeted by missiles or drones, raising questions about why necessary maintenance has reportedly been neglected.

Meanwhile, Energoatom stated in January that after a reassessment, the state regulator confirmed the possibility of operating SUNPP power unit No. 2 until 2035, extending its total life to 50 years. The company also claimed that IAEA experts present at the meeting voiced “no comments or concerns.” Energoatom also reported in March 2025 that it had completed the construction of spray ponds at the site, describing it as a “top priority” to improve cooling and the environmental situation.

The alleged concealment of technical problems comes as Energoatom, which is responsible for overseeing the plant’s condition, has been embroiled in a string of major corruption scandals, including a $100 million kickbackscheme orchestrated by Vladimir Zelensky’s longtime associate Timur Mindich. The corruption scandals have led to the resignations of former Energy Minister German Galushchenko, Deputy Energy Minister Aleksandr Kheilo, as well as Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak.

The condition of the SUNPP contrasts sharply with that of the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant(ZNPP), where despite active hostilities, both Moscow and Kiev have at times agreed to temporary ceasefires brokered by the IAEA to allow for critical repairs.

Orban blasts EU ‘fantasy’ about Russia

The Hungarian prime minister has slammed Brussels’ continued backing of Ukraine, suggesting Kiev will not win the conflict

EU leaders are wrong to believe that they can exhaust Russia and help Ukraine win the conflict, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

The remarks came in response to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s statement at the Munich Security Conference last week, where he suggested that Brusselsexacting “unprecedented losses and costs on Moscow” could weaken it and force it to “agree to peace.”

Who believes that the Russians will run out of steam sooner than Ukraine? It’s a fantasy, an illusion, and irresponsible,”Orban said in a speech on Tuesday, criticizing Brussels’ continued financial and military aid to Kiev.

During his Munich address, Merz claimed that the EU has not used its full potential against Moscow, saying that while the bloc’s GDP is “almost ten times higher” than that of Russia, “Europe today is not ten times stronger than Russia.”

EU leaders have doubled down on pressuring Moscow. Top diplomat Kaja Kallas has insisted Russia is not ready for meaningful negotiations on the Ukraine conflict. The Munich conference also saw Kiev and its backers sign several defense industry deals, including joint ventures for drone production in Germany.

US Secretary ofState Marco Rubio lamented in Budapest on Monday that the Ukraine conflict is “one of the few wars” that some in the international community have been backing and resisting efforts to bring to an end.

Russia, Ukraine, and the US have held two rounds of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi this year. A new round began on Tuesday in Geneva, with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff praising “meaningful progress” by the delegations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in December that Moscow prefers diplomacy but will achieve its goals by military means if necessary. On the battlefield, Russian forces have maintained a steady offensive.

Russian officials have accused Kiev’s European backers of hindering US-led peace efforts and of increasingly preparing for a direct confrontation with Moscow, aiming at creating an enemy image to distract Western taxpayers from domestic problems.

(The EU is bankrupt and wasted billions on Ukraine, but it’s Russia’s fault. I doubt European people believe that bullshit.)

Rubio baffled by Western war cheerleaders

The US has been seeing condemnation from some actors over its efforts to end the Ukraine conflict, the top US diplomat has said

The Ukraine conflict is “one of the few wars”that some inthe international community have been cheering and condemning effortsto bring to an end, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said.

The top US diplomat made the remarks on Monday during a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest.

Rubio claimed thatthe US was the only country that has managed to bring Russia and Ukraine together for negotiations, yet lamented the reactionof certain actors in the international community to the mediating effort of the Trump administration.

“Usually when you’re trying to end wars, the international community applauds you. This isone of the few warsI’ve ever seenwhere some people in the international community condemn you for tryingto help end the war, but that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said without explicitly naming any pro-war actors.

This year, Russia, Ukraine, and the US held two rounds of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, and multiple discussions between the parties in different formats have also taken place. Negotiations are set to take place “again in Geneva later this week,” Rubio stated. The top diplomat claimed thatWashington has not been trying to “impose a deal on anybody” but rather “help” both parties to end the “incredibly damaging”conflict.

The two recent rounds of talks were held behind closed doors, with no details shared by either side other than both Moscow and Washington calling the talks “productive”and “constructive.” The latest meeting has yielded an exchange of 314 POWs between Russia and Ukraine. Multiple public statements from senior officials from all the sides, however, have indicated that the positions of the two sides remain far apart on territorial issues.

Moscow has maintained that any sustainable settlement requires Ukraine to withdraw from the areas still under its control in Donbass, which voted to join Russia in 2022. Kiev, however, has repeatedly rejected making any territorial concessions.

Strong Possibility of SCOTUS Ruling on President Trump IEEPA Tariffs – Friday, Tuesday or Wednesday

February 18, 2026 | Sundance |

The high court has indicated it will be releasing opinions on one or more of the previously argued cases on Friday February 20, Tuesday Feb 24, or Wednesday Feb 25. The decision over tariffs triggered by President Trump using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) is one of the decisions now considered highly likely to surface.

If the decision doesn’t come this Friday, a rather interesting situation unfolds. The following week falls into the Tuesday Feb 24 State of the Union address.

Typically, several Supreme Court justices sit in front row of the House floor during the speech. The decision could be released on the morning of the speech, or justices could actually sit in the audience – knowing the outcome and the morning after the State of the Union address, the ruling could be released.

Now, there is a possibility the ruling will not come out in this cycle, but that is diminishing possibility considering the length of time the Supreme Court has sat on this opinion.

The court knows the importance of this decision, and they obviously know the State of the Union speech is scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday the 24th. This will be an interesting dynamic to watch unfold.

Canadian Prime Minister Pitching Global Trade Rules Agreement to Combat Trump – Connecting Trans-Atlantic to Trans-Pacific

February 17, 2026 | Sundance1/2

There is an awful lot to unpack in this seemingly obscure article talking about Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and a new trade approach he is pitching to Pacific/Asia and Atlantic/European nations. [Story Here]

Before getting to the substance of the outline, ==something important needs to be shared for context.=

Do you remember the 2014, 2015 and 2016 top story conversations anddebates over the Transpacific Partnership trade deal known as TPP?

You might also remember the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership trade deal known as TTIP.

The TPP (Pacific) and TTIP (Atlantic) were two major multinational trade deals negotiated between 2013 and 2016. While both sparked plenty of debate, most of the spotlight was on the TPP, the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Hillary Clinton was in favor of TPP as were most of the traditional republican field of candidates in ’15/’16.However, Donald Trump was strongly against TPP and pledged to exit out of any negotiations and scrap the U.S. participationif he was to win the 2016 election. Some of you may begin to remember this.

DonaldTrump agreed with our position, that TPP was being falsely sold as a beneficial 12-nation massive trade agreementbetween the USA and pacific rim countries including Australia and Southeast Asia nations.

With the history of NAFTA behind us, we could see two major issues withTPP: #1: It was structured with a back door to let China into the deal. And #2) it was created to ensure the USA remained a “service driven economy.”

Supporters of TPP and TTIP claimed this multinational trade deals would create smooth supply chains and align on ‘rules of origin.’ They believed TPP would benefit companies and lead to cheaper products.Critics, however, argued that the agreements were designed to exploit the U.S. consumer market and prevent the country from ever regaining a strong manufacturing base.

I share those reminders to set up the big 800-lb gorilla question.

If the TPP was such a great trade deal for all parties involved, why didn’t the group finalize it after the USA withdrew? It’s been a decade, so why haven’t the TPP nations completed their trade agreement?

The honest answer reveals the undiscussed lie.

Both TPP and TTIP were constructed and designed to keep exploiting the U.S. consumer market. That’s it. That was the entire purpose of TPP (Asia) and TTIP (Europe). Corporations and lobbyists like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce wrote the TPP language to maximize corporate profits. That was the purpose of it.

Take the U.S.A. out of the TPP trade agreement and the purpose/benefit no longer exists. Without the host, there is no need for a feeding agreement between parasites. That’s why a decade has passed and TPP/TTIP went nowhere.

All of that said, suddenly with President Trump positioning to eliminate the USMCA trade agreement, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to go back to the TPP/TTIP “Rules of Origin” trade framework in order to create an insurance policy against the end of the trilateral USMCA trade agreement.

Now, here is where it gets really interesting. There is no way for Canada to remain in the USMCA and simultaneously commit to a trade agreement with different rules of origin. This means that for Carney to accomplish what he’s reportedly aiming for, the dissolution of the UMCA would already need to be in the works.
