Pres. Trump Holds News Conference After Supreme Ct. Strikes Down Tariffs
President Trump held a news conference after the Supreme Court struck down his global tariffs in a 6-3 decision. He called the ruling "deeply disappointing" and that he was "ashamed" of certain members of the Court, though praised Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Brett Kavanaugh for dissenting. Trump also said, "While I am sure that they did not mean to do so, the Supreme Court's decision today made a president's ability to both regulate trade and impose tariffs more powerful and more crystal clear rather than less." He announced, "effectively immediately, all national security tariffs … remain in placefully in placeand in full force and effect," and that he would sign an order to impose a 10% global tariff "over and above our normal tariffs already being charged." When asked by a reporter why he wouldn't work with Congress to come up with a plan for tariffs, Trump said he didn't have to, though the Supreme Court affirmed tariffs were a congressional prerogative.Show Less
